Chapter 27
Although many families probably toured the zoo with an orderly agenda that let them view the animals in order of where they were situated in the zoo, Jason’s family wasn’t that type of family. Their agenda had more to do with following the kids’ interests.
They started with the koalas, like they always did. Then they moved onto the ape house. Janey and Howard could never get over how much gorilla ears looked like human ears.
“Look guys, it’s you two before your coffee,” James said, pointing to two gorillas that seemed irritated with one another.
“No, the gorillas have more self-control,” Howard said, bumping Jason on the arm as he said it.
Jason laughed and said, “Think of all the trouble people would stay out of if they couldn’t speak.”
Howard smiled at him, and there was something different about his look. Jason thought about it for a second and realized that Howard was more relaxed around him then he had seen him in years. Let’s keep his guard down then, Jason thought.
