Sophie and her father, Henry, sat on the upstairs landing, outside their bedroom. The dim light from the hallway cast elongated shadows across the floor.
The rhythm of her heart pounded like a drum, as she recounted the unsettling incident involving James and Brenda.
Sophie recounted the entire incident involving James and Brenda to her Dad.
Henry listened intently, he hunched over,
"James didn't strike me as someone with ill intentions," he mused. "He seemed gentle that day."
Henry drew in a deep breath, his voice steady. "We need to take care of Brenda; I am worried about her."
Sophie sat there, her face buried in her palms, the weight of the situation etched across her features.
He continued, "Your mom should not know about this incident, let's handle it discreetly. We don't want unnecessary drama. Inform Martha and the other housekeepers not to bring up this matter in front of Margaret."
