The Week

By the time they finished, dinner was already made. He had his dinner and went to rest. It was a good day. It was fruitful and also exhausting. Adi soon fell asleep while thinking about the future.

Adi woke up from his slumber just as the sun was rising. He went to the balcony seeing the magnificent sun and mountains. He saw this scene everyday for a whole week but it still mesmerized him.

It has been a week since he reached Rai and also a week since he came in this world. A week since he died on Earth. He then got transmigrated in this body, received the system and took steps to change the place.

Five days had passed from the day the mine was discovered. The last few days passed in a similar manner. The people of Rai and its King were all busy doing their works, which made the days exhausting but fulfilling. They could see the result of their efforts themselves and they were now sure that their King would take them to greater heights.

The huts of villagers were completed the day before. Previously, the huts were mostly made of straws, mud and minimal wood. It barely provided any shelter to people. Now, the new huts were made with combination of stones and wood.

Walls mostly consisted of stones now so that the people could stay safe from chilling winter winds and the summer loo. The ceilings were made of wooden planks and logs, with slopes on two sides so that no rainwater or snow accumulate on it resulting in a cave in.

In the past, the huts were made in a haphazard way with no planning and no regards to the road. Now, Adi had planned them in square blocks with the roads wide enough for four trucks to pass. The roads were currently not paved, but work will start on it soon.

Adi also forbid people from defecating on roadside. He ordered them to keep their domesticated animals in check and prevent them from spreading filth on roads. As the villagers have never seen their place in such clean and tidy condition, they promised Adi to keep the surroundings clean. They would move to their brand new huts today.

The blacksmiths had a lot of ores piled up. The mining work was now done by few strong villagers. Adi's soldier were still there, just securing the surroundings from any animal attacks.

Kaif and his group had also made many arrows and tools. They were still making the weapons so that it won't be be in shortage when the need arises. Adi and Kaif had discussed to start looking for sulfur and other ingredients used in making gunpowder, so that they can introduce the firearms.

They also needed to make cannons to secure the city walls. For the other mines, Adi had planned to start looking for them in coming days.

The building of dock has also started. Adi and Pratap agreed to not make it very large as they would modernize it in future.

For now, it should be large enough for few boats to anchor. He has also instructed to make new fishing boats and repair the old so that the marine food can be available in enough quantity.

Classes have also commenced couple of days back. The Queen Mother Laxmi has chosen an estate with large enough halls as the venue. The people were shocked and thrilled when they heard that they would be taught. Now, they could also read and write and will no longer be illiterate.

In the continent of Gandhar, commoners had no right to study, and for slaves, it was not even a dream. Only nobles and knights had this privilege, with the merchants paying high enough amount to study.

Now, their King had changed that millennium old practice and was giving them a chance to study, no less that the Queen Mother would teach them. They were very excited to see her and listen to her. Even the children cooperated and studied seriously.

His mother and an elegant aura around her but she was quite easy going. It was also fulfilling for her and she looked forward to the future.

The inspection of Noble district was finished. They did not find any other food storage but got a few piles of various cold weapons and armors. Thankfully there were no tunnels anywhere in the whole district. All the estates were cleaned up now and Adi could put them to use.

The farm was also ready. Kali and the farmers had spread the mixture of manure and nearby top soil to more than half of the farmland. They then watered and ploughed it.

Adi consulted with Kali and other farmers. and they had decided to sow wheat first. They chose wheat as the farmers were familiar with growing it and they would not have to worry too much raising them.

They have also started sowing seeds in the farms. In another week, the sowing would be completely done. If all goes well, then they would have a good harvest. Maybe by then, he could complete the System's mission.

Speaking of the system, it was awfully silent in the last few days. It has not given any missions nor gave any points. He called it a couple of times to check it was there or not and thankfully it was still there.

But the System did not say anything more and went back to being silent. He thought that System was sulking as he got the sub modules from it by cheating...ahem...by negotiating. Adi needed modules but could do nothing about the System sulking, so he just shrugged and ignored it.

The Army of soldiers was now taking shape. Their knight features of being lazy, arrogance and disobedience was slowly going away and what replaced it was serious soldiers who were hard working, humble and disciplined.

This change could also be felt by the men themselves. They felt more fit than ever. They were now more agile, had more stamina and worked as team. They were very happy with these changes and strictly followed what was ordered.

Pratap was also astonished to see the men who behaved completely different from a week back. He taught them some tactics and exercises from the module and it changed them wholly. They were now in cohesion and much more fit. They now won't just charge head-on but listen to orders and act accordingly.

Shane has taken in a couple of people as his apprentices. He has also found some herbs in the nearby area of the forest in the east. He and his group has started to make some salves and pastes for the common health issues.

Adi had asked Shane to start taking classes and teach the people about cleanliness and hygiene, like brushing teeth and bathing everyday, etc.. By doing this, the people can avoid many of the ailments. This will help to avoid any probable plagues in the future. The rodents infestation and the flies will also reduce over time.

As everything was on track, Adi thought that from today he would start making new things. He had planned to open factories for cement, soaps and detergent and most importantly paper.

He had been to the swampy area adjacent to the forest and found that it was full of reeds like the cattails. These plants can be used to make paper. So, he had asked a group of villagers and his soldiers to get the reeds.

As the swamps are home to snakes and other poisonous insects, they were told to be very careful. The collection was slow, but thankfully there was no injury to anyone. Today, he will start making paper as it is the easiest.

But still, he was seriously short in hand. Almost the whole population was engaged in one work or the other, and he needed more people to start making modern things. He thought hard but could not find any safe way to increase the population.

He cannot ask the people from nearby towns to come as the city lords will be alerted as they will affect the their tax collection. He also cannot buy slaves from anywhere as the slave traders were mostly big players in the background, and news of him purchasing slaves will soon reach his step-brothers' ears.

They may think he is getting slaves for raising a force. After that, they will face tough fight. He cannot afford to alert them at the moment.

So, he could not get people from the land route as it will alert others. That left the only remaining option, the water way. If he can make a large boat, he may be able to travel to other empires and get slaves from there. It will take much time and effort, and will also put him in danger but he could not find any other way at the moment.

Just as he was thinking that maybe praying to some God or higher being like Creator to solve the problem, the silent System broke its silence.
