Chapter three Spring

"Hello, uhm, how are you doing?" the deity asked the woman after she offered her wooden sword.

The woman jumped in fright, as she heard a voice out of nowhere. But she kept a brave face and said, "Is that you forest deity?" to which the deity responded. "Yes it's me and I'm not a forest deity, I'm a god of nature! But that's not important! Tomorrow bring me a log to sacrifice, young one." the deity told the girl and she nodded and left.

She was on an adrenaline rush as she left the lodge. Her deity had spoken to her, given her an order.

As she went to bed she could barely contain her excitement. The night was spent twisting and turning in her bed, as she was way too lively to sleep. As daybreak arrived her mother opened the door to her room and said. "Uncle needs your help today with the fields. If we want to plant all the crops before spring is over everyone's help will be needed, including you, Jasmine!"

When Jasmine's mother told her to wake up, she dashed out of bed, past her mother, running all the way to the kitchen table. Where some newly baked bread had been made for breakfast. Jasmine gluttonously devoured the food and ran to the door, stopping to take on some shoes.

"Thanks for the food mom!" she yelled before opening the door and running towards the fields.

The village was surrounded by kilometers of fields ready for use. In the middle of the fields there was a river that they used to water the plants. Jasmine passed a giant stable at the edge of the village, barely part of the circular formation. The stable was home to the multiple species of animal that worked on the field each year. Each one of those little, or big creatures were vital for a successful harvest.

"There you are, I was wondering when you would arrive." a man yelled to Jasmine as she was jogging towards him.

"Can't a girl have some quality sleep?" she exclaimed at her uncle, as she picked up a hoe of the ground

The day passed quickly, as she worked on the field, she and her uncle took turns in plowing the ground and planting seeds. So that neither one would get too tired.

The second Jasmine's work ended she rushed to the river and took a bath. The dirt and sweat that had accumulated under work hours washed off her and she was as good as new.

She left the fields as the sun was going down, but made a stop next to the house of the woodworker's house. Where she grabbed a log from one of the piles and then went home, following the gravel road. Before entering her house she hid the log next to the window of her room.

Later that night, after she had finished eating dinner with her family and gone to bed, she left the house. Before heading to the lodge in the center of the village she grabbed the log she stole.

Jasmine entered the lodge and walked towards the totem before stopping and bowing. Next to her was a log which she offered to the nature deity.

The log became green specs and disappeared.

As the deity received the log, it started using its energy to leave a print on the log and form it after itself. It had a theory that it could expand its field of vision if it created more totems of itself. That's why it asked the young woman to bring it to him.

Some seconds after receiving the log, the deity gave Jasmine a totem of itself and said. "Bring this to your room and worship me. From now on you don't need to visit me in secret."

Jasmine bowed and grabbed the totem and left.

~Pov Jantyr~ (First person)

I noticed two things when I made the second totem. One it didn't even have the capacity to store my energy, like this totem. It seemed to be limited. Unlike the original totem I was born from. I guess one could say this is my main body, while that is just an extension of myself. The good news from this is that I can claim the energy it piles up, so I don't have to worry about it getting full anytime soon. The second thing I noticed was a big one. Before making the totem I couldn't even see all the fields. But now I can see past them. My sight even manages to see into the forest to the left of the village and see some of the gravel roads going from the small village to one of the cities. This means that the totems work as storage and eyes. But I can't just create an infinite amount of totems. They cost a lot, like a lot. All the energy from the sacrifices I've gotten recently were consumed when I made it.

With my new vision I watched over the villagers and overheard their lively conversations. Many things were happening in the village this year and a new baby would be born in the midst of summer.

I overlooked the village which had been a bit foggy to me before, but now I could see it clearly. twenty three houses where they lived and three buildings for other stuff. My lodge, a stable and a building for all kinds of things. Here they traded, created clothes and prepared tools.

Days went by and the world started to get warmer and life started to thrive. The planting of crops on the field was almost completely done. Over fourty of the villagers had helped in planting the seeds this year and they had used many different animals that I couldn't recognise.

The girl named Jasmine had brought me sacrifices everyday. The totem I gifted her stood in her room, displayed proudly for anyone that would enter.

Time passed by in an instant and before I knew it, we were in the midst of spring. But today was different from all other days. Jasmine had brought her uncle over. He was a bit shorter than her and had a big brown beard. His ears poked out like an elf's, just like all other Falken. He had muscles from all the work he did, but that couldn't be seen in his eyes. His emerald green eyes were gentle and would give one an everlasting impression of this man. He was a good person!

Just the other day I had witnessed Jasmine convincing him to pray to me for a good season and harvest. So here he was, standing in front of me. He seemed to be quite sentimental about this lodge and acted guilty of some crime. He seemed apologetic about abandoning the lodge all these years.

The man got on his knees and raised a farm hoe into the air, before saying.

"Oh nature deity that watches over us, please forgive us and bless us with a good harvest!"

His sacrifice was not unwelcomed, as I had already completed his request.

As I accepted the tool, I felt a large margin of energy enter me. This was the tool he got from his father when he was young and so on. The farming hoe I just received and turned into energy was a family heirloom that had been in use for generations! I guess he really was sorry.

Shortly after he left. Jasmine walked forward and said. "Please forgive uncle, he promised to pray to you once every week!" Jasmine said, but I didn't let her continue and blessed her with some of my energy. I made a plan some weeks ago and have been gathering energy ever since. If I were to make her my priestess and grant her strength, the others wouldn't be able to deny my existence and after that Jasmine would fix the rest. Plus, if I bless her like this she will become capable of using magic after a while and that makes me a bit giddy.
