Chapter Nineteen: Ominous Feeling

Jasmine created a ward around one of the many dummies in the courtyard. The barrier had one specific purpose, to defend against the Firelast jinx. The jinx is a tier zero jinx, but has the potential to be a tier two, if the user was strong and knowledgeable enough. The Firelast jinx makes the target spontaneously burst into flames over a short period of time. The time and power behind the spell will vary with the caster.

The Firelast jinx is the strongest jinx Jasmine has learned so far. Her proficiency with the jinx is almost at master level. Now all she lacks is mana to cast the jinx at its purest form.

"Firelast" she chanted. A red streak flew towards the ward placed around the barrier and bursted into flames on the ward. The dummy quickly burned to a crisp, for the ward only protected the target from the spell hitting it. Not the fire that would ensure if it hit the ward.

"Another failure. Guess I need to work more on the ward. Until then I can use a ward that blocks everything entering the ward." Jasmine said and took out a rook. Using alteration she transformed it into a piece of paper and wrote some notes about her failure.

"Hi Jasmine!" a high pitched voice came from behind. Jasmine sighed and turned to her visitor.

"Can I help you, Ylda?" she said to a tall woman. She was way older than Jasmine and of a different species. They're called Golementias. They're a species born from any kind of object old enough and rich enough in mana. They're like golems that mages create, but with one difference. They're their own person, they're sentient and a kingdom with a population of their own people. They're like any other sapient race inhabiting Zingtopia.

Most Golementias are made out of stone or wood. But Ylda was born from Fegrite, a metal only ever produced in Ember, the continent of fire.

Despite that, some of the Fegrite accidentally makes it all the way to Zingtopia. This happens when the Tectonic plates of Medulieon move and some parts of different continents move. Ylda just happened to be one of the Fegrite that made it to Zingtopia. By the time she had reached the continent, she was already a full fledged Golomenita. This made the mining of her metal illegal, as it could literally cause a war with all Golementias.

"Your master requests your presence in his room!" Ylda said and quickly left.

Jasmine groaned in annoyance and pocketed her notes. Then she canceled her ward and grimaced at the pitiful sight of the dummy. It was completely melted, even the ground was slightly scorched, due to the molten magma of the dummy.

Jasmine placed her staff on her back and started walking towards her master's room. After some minutes she arrived and knocked on the door.

"Come in!" her master yelled and Jasmine opened the door and entered the room. It was just like the last time, nothing had changed.

"Please have a seat, we have important things to discuss my dear!" her master said. It was obvious he was serious, the very moment she entered. He didn't greet her with hospitality, instead urgency. He looked like a mess through and through. Like he hadn't slept a wink for months.

"What is it you want from me?" Jasmine said, clearly noticing her master's urgency.

"Six months ago an ancient ruin appeared out of nowhere. Now this in itself is great, that is for certain. The problem is where it appeared all of a sudden. Six months ago, in the duke family known as Falkens last heroes, a ruin appeared. The very ruin we are talking about. It destroyed the ancient house and ruined the city. Thousands of people disappeared into the ruin and I was tasked to look into it. That is why I've been gone for so long. The problem is, no matter how hard me and many professionals tried to make the ruin move, or enter it, we couldn't! The ruin has an age restriction that won't allow anyone over thirty to enter. You Jasmine and some of your seniors will enter this dungeon. You will have one mission and only one, rescue the citizens!" Jasmine's master said.

"Very well, if I am to succeed in this task, will there be any rewards master?" Jasmine asked.

"Yes of course, if you succeed in this task the king himself will see to your demands!"

Orcs and now ruins. We are getting into some serious situations here!

I haven't been able to spy on the Orcs at all over these few days. Some days ago I had ordered Fhurka, one of the twenty men from the monster wave, to go into the forest and place my totem close to the tribe so that I could spy on them. But something is blocking my sight. I can't even sneak a peek at the tribe. The only time I saw one of the Orcs was when they visited the old battlefield.

As for the one guilty of that battlefield, he's fully secluded in the library during the day and returns home to his wife at night. He's almost read through twenty books related to weather magic and has tried implementing that knowledge during practice. But enough of that.

Lately I've started to find it hard to keep track of energy and how much I have and spend so I came up with a solution. I came up with digits for the energy. So I can better understand what things are worth. I call this digit, FP, short for Faith Points.

Right now I have two-hundred faith points. To upgrade myself to a new rank, I need eight-thousand FP. A tremendous amount. The highest amount of faith points I've ever had was when I had my first rank up. At that point I had three-hundred faith points. It took one-hundred to upgrade and two-hundred to cast an eternal winter on the Shifao Dynasty. So yeah, I need a lot of energy!

As for Jasmine and the ruin. I have this ominous feeling, a creeping fear telling me that the ruin is bad news. Very, very bad news. But ever since Jasmine met her master, I haven't been able to talk to her. It's like something is blocking me. Something very ancient and powerful.

Creation is hard, cheer me up!
