The Crooked Path

(Syrel Woods)

Seated on a chair was I, gazing right into the amber eyes of my protector and shifting my gaze towards Wills, that's what I loved calling him. He was probably the only person that understood me in this world. 'What can you make of this, Williams?' A chuckle rang out of the comical and daring Beta as he replied. 'He put her down within very few minutes. Ana might not be strong as we both are but very few creatures can rival her power. Syrel, I'm afraid we have a strong enemy in our town.'

I touched my fresh chin, resuming my hot gaze on Anastasia. She knew I needed her to speak. 'He's strong and fast, I know that. What I don't know is his origin. He might be a Vampire or a Werewolf. Even if I had transformed, I was not his match. I'm afraid even if the Beta would lose to him.' Her response shocked me, our opponent was sure not an easy one if he was as strong as she said.

'What about I visit him with some of our strong wolves and bring him over? I doubt if he could withstand the attacks of wild creatures.' Wills proposed, walking about the room. I noticed he stole glances at the sexy Anastasia, what a perverted man he was. Anastasia must have known but she ignored his action.

'Okay but just try to persuade him to leave my town. I want no blood to be shed but if he resists, bring him over, alive.' I agreed to his proposal, not hesitating to order them to bring that man over, alive. The comical Williams really did things out of the box so I made it clear I wanted him alive.

'Syrel, I'm kind of in the mood to battle you. Say no word but nod your head, I'll head out for our guest tomorrow.' I laughed after hearing him out, I couldn't count how many times he has lost to me. I didn't argue with him but instead arose from my chair and ushered Anastasia to create some space.

Wills underwent a transformation, a brief one. His eyes turned red, his eyes were emitting a thirst for war. Alpha Werewolves were the only ones whose eyes normally turned red during their transformation. Wills was quite a warrior when we were kids, he managed to get rid of an Alpha so he became one, though shamelessly. I was born an Alpha so I normally inherited the mantle to lead the pack, I had no choice but to make him my Beta. No doubt, he was a strong and cunning wolf.

His fangs sprouted and his claws grew, he hurled himself at me. A punch was it that he aimed at my face, I didn't hesitate to grab hold of his attacking arm and twisted it as quick as I could. Grunting but not hesitating to jab my stomach with his knee. Avoided his knee attack by throwing myself over him, flipping past his head to a position a bit far away from his.

What I loved about him was how calculative he was. Just right as I found a new position, he chased me. Avoided a lot of his claw strikes and deadly kicks but couldn't avoid some of his punches. Finally getting tired of teasing him, I exploited an opening of his and aimed a deadly kick at his chest which sent him to the wall, unknowingly kissing it. Not stopping, I ran towards him and sent a beautiful but forceful kick to his face but he avoided it by shifting to a new position.

A sweeping kick came after my leg missed his face but I was not slow either as I performed a backflip. He regained his standing posture while he kept dirt off his suit. 'Why aren't you serious with the battle?' And so was I questioned by my Beta. He was aware I was not focusing on the fight, perhaps it was because of how my wolf yearned for our mate.

Still standing rooted to the ground, he lunged at me not bothering to give me some seconds to regain my composure. His two bulky legs were outstretched and aimed at my chest as he spiralled in mid air. Perhaps it was due to the anger my wolf felt, I finally got serious and grabbed his legs, flung was his entire body to the wall. The throw was a heavy one and weak was he as he fell to the face of mother Earth.

'I wonder when I'll manage to beat you down.' His breathing pattern was messy as he arose. He shook his head and came closer, placing his arm on my right shoulder. 'I know the burden of leading the Pack is a heavy one, just know that you've got me.' His words were comforting and pleased was I as I returned to my chair, sitting my butt on it.

Right before I could give a reply, a bulky guy clad in a black suit came in, he was clearly in a rush to relay a message. He half knelt, placing his balled right fist on his chest before speaking. 'Alpha, we found the dead bodies of ten Pack members in the forest. Their heads were ripped off their shoulders and the hearts were all missing as well.'

My wolf was pained and so was I as he relayed the message to me. Who would dare venture into my abode and kill my people? Who dared do so? My anger boiled as I slammed my balled right fist on the armrest, shattering it. Was it that mysterious Morien or what?
