The City Of Bones

(Rebekah Willsford)

Surprised was I after realizing I and the mysterious Morien had become close. After last night, we had a very hearty conversation the next day at the high school. Damned would I be if I stated that I did not enjoy his company, I really enjoyed his entire demeanor. I noticed the comical Mr Williams taking glances at us both but I could not decipher what he was thinking.

Hating the fact that time ran like a thief being chased by a police dog, I exited the high school with my best friend tagging along with me. Riana teased me on our way back to our houses. Embracing her within my arms before parting ways with her, I finally stood before my home. Was just about to push open the door to witness the big joy of being with my family, my very sweet mother, my brother who would always nag at me if I didn't bring back goodies, so was what he called his snacks and my caring father who was always not present, I felt a hand jabbing my neck and so did I drift off to the beautiful land of unconsciousness.

Not aware of how many hours had gone by, I finally felt alive. Yes, alive was I but scared was I also. I tilted my head around, trying to check out my new environment. I was not aware of what was about to happen for I was still thinking if it was the action of some random kidnappers. The room I was within was very gloomy, gloomier was it than the dark night for I could not see myself. Minutes after perhaps for I had no access to check out what the time was, light suddenly emerged out of nowhere.

It was at that moment I realized the light was the progeny of more than a dozen red candles. No one was in the room filled with bones, except me. Bones? Ah, and so did I scream like a lost pup yearning to be in the warmth of it's guardian. I ran to the door separating me from the world and heavily banged it but I got no response. Driven mad by loneliness, I got lost in the cage of thoughts.

A sound rang out sharply and saved was I from the cage of thoughts, the door was finally pushed open and I sighted two figures slowly walking in, a male clad in a black suit and a female clad in a black gown. I felt fear gripping my heart as they got closer. Their footsteps were more like ghostly cries sending shivers to my entire body. Finally stopping some feet away from me, the male kidnapper spoke. 'Welcome to the city of bones, I hope you're okay?' Staring at him fearfully as he spoke, he looked pale with cute green eyes boring into mine. I noticed blood trickling down his mouth but in the stead of wiping it off, he licked it.

I knew it was never going to end well while having the thought of my kidnappers being evil cannibals. The lady carefully placed her two hands on his left shoulder, joining the battle of gazes. 'What a cute one she is, I guess even Lord Erastus will want to have her on his bed.' Not being afraid of her words, I felt like I was familiar with that name. One part of me thought about the wonderful poet who we discussed at the high school few days back, My Erastus Ivern. Another part of me dismissed that thought, seeing it as a big coincidence.

Ignoring them, I suddenly thought about what issued some minutes back if I was correct, why did the candles light up all of a sudden with no one to carry out the necessary action to put it on? Everything that issued was sure weird and I could not fathom them. 'Are you sure she is the right ingredient? I do not plan on delivering a wrong ingredient to the old three.' Surprised was I when he questioned the female in a way that could be considered weird.

'Can anyone try telling me what is it that's going on here? I think you've got the wrong person so please let me leave.' I screamed those words so loud that even the evil banshees in the myth could not have. Right after my scream did I discover a shocking scene. An indiscernible blur appeared right before me and I was flung away some metres away from my previous position. I looked up, finally realizing it was the male that hit me but how was it possible that he moved so fast? I could not even catch sight of his movement.

The female slowly walked towards him, resuming their previous pose. 'Hurt not a finger of her, when did you obtain the guts to disobey the order of your leader?' I sighted an expression of fear on his face right after the female spoke, while trying to stand. An awkward silence was it that issued as she spoke but it was finally broken by him. 'Rebekah, I need you to know that where you will arrive next is a den of terror. So, I need you right now to start being afraid. In the next few days, we shall leave so enjoy yourself till then. One more thing, I'll send one of my men to bring you food but do not be too picky else you might just as well starve to death which I will not want happening.' Right after he spoke, he grabbed the lady's waist and they faded off my sight. I only caught sight of a blur exiting through the door before it got slammed.

Angered was I as I remained alone in the rough room filled with bones of varying sizes. Seconds after they exited the rough room, perhaps it was after half a minute, the candles went off. Darkness bloomed and I felt terrified, what was the root of the looming danger?
