CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE: FIREBOY.

"Suspect is heading west to the back forty of the Douglas farm!" A dark-skinned sheriff spoke into his walkie-talkie.

"Copy that." A voice radioed back from his handheld.

"You got the truck ready?" The Sheriff asked

"It'll be ready before he gets here, Sheriff Mason." The voice radioed back again.

A humanoid creature covered in red and bright yellow hue was seen flying away from the cops chasing in their cars in a large farmland while leaving a trail of fire in the air. The flying creature kept making sharp turns to lose the driver, but the driver remained steady on the wheel.

After making a turn that was too quick even for the flying burning creature, it couldn't react on time when it came across a scarecrow on the farm, causing it to crash land. The creature stood and revealed itself to be a Pyronite, the alien Ben first turned into and named, 'Heatblast'!

"I'm the worst flier ever." The Pyronite complained while rubbing its temples.

"There he is!" An officer exclaimed. The officer was with a partner who held a hose connected to a fire truck.

"I don't want to hurt you guys." The pyronite warned with an outstretched arm showing his bright yellow palm.

"Lucky us, let her rip!" Sheriff Mason ordered without any surprise to see a burning humanoid talking, it was as if this was not the first time the Sheriff had tangoed with this one. Upon hearing the Sheriff's command, a female officer began turning the water wheel as fast as she could to allow flow.

Water flowed out as if it had been held captive against its will and flowed in the direction at which another officer who was manning the hose pointed. The pyronite was assaulted with a torrent of water rushing out of the fire truck, causing fumes to escape from its body.

Cleary getting irritated, the pyronite got up with its chest flared open, generating a ball of flames no bigger than a man's head from its chest as it shot toward the fire truck. The officers ducked at the sight of the incoming fireball and the fire truck exploded from just a small fireball attack.

Standing above the fallen officers, the shape of the Omnitrix, when Ben transforms into his aliens, could be seen on his chest.

"Now, why don't you guys just leave me alone?!" The Pyronite exclaimed.

Apparently oblivious to a police car that was blaring its sirens and driving at full speed toward the Pyronite, the car hit the Pyronite with such force the Pyronite flew until he hit a building behind him and collapsed from the hit.

The pyronites form then shifted into that of a dark-skinned teen, with a buzz cut, a singlet that had a plumber badge in its center, and a grey trouser. He looked like a certain character from Rockstar games but only younger.

The boy who collapsed earlier was in a cold room and was sitting on a throne of ice blocks. The men that began to interrogate him wore extra warm clothing but the boy seemed just fine in his minimal clothing, like the cold meant nothing to him.

The men left the boy in the cold room with his plumber badge when they couldn't get the answers they wanted from him and hung them on a coat rack outside the room.

"Keep him in there until I find a judge who can tell us what to do with him." Sheriff Mason ordered the officer who went in with him to interrogate the boy and leave the badge on the officer's table.

"Can't this thing go any faster?" Ben complained after they drove past a speed limit sign.

"Yes." Kevin answered dryly.

"But we are still going at the same speed." Ben said inching closer to Kevin.

"It's called the speed limit. It's the fastest we are going tonight." Kevin answered calmly.

"Moms gonna kill me if I am late getting home again." Ben complained, recalling what happened the last time.

"Huh. If she grounds you, it will just be me and Gwen." Kevin said as he glanced in Gwen's direction.

Gwen pouted her lips and turned to Kevin, "You think I'd go with you… if Ben wasn't here?"

"Of course, I got roguish charm. And you don't sound convincing when you say it without even being able to look me in the eye." Kevin teased as Gwen's face dropped lower.

Suddenly the plumber's badge in Kevin's possession began ringing.

"Oh, phone call for mister roguish charm. I bet it must be one of your many girlfriends." Gwen said with a smile.

"First Mom, then you. Fine, I will have a harem then." Kevin said while shrugging his shoulders.

"Whatever, who would want to share you anyway." Gwen remarked as she reached for the pocket on his jacket and brought out the plumber's badge.

"Oh, there might even be a princess who wants me." Kevin said smiling to himself.

"Oh really, anyway why is it doing?" Gwen asked.

"I recalibrated to locate any badge around in hopes of getting the one from the plumber that died, so we might…" Kevin began to explain but was interrupted by Ben.

"We might find Grandpa!" Ben exclaimed.

"Fine, I guess I can break a few traffic rules for this not that I care." Kevin said as he stepped on the gas pedal, causing the car to accelerate and reach higher speeds.

"Alright, let's go." Ben cheered.

'It's really like having a kid tag along.' Kevin thought to himself.

The boy in the cold room soon escaped his prison by spitting molten magma on his cuffs and made for the door. The door wasn't even locked so he opened it easily and enjoyed the temperature difference compared to the cold room as he warmed himself. Soon after, he transformed into his Pyronite at will, causing an increase in temperature and noise in the room which awakened the sleeping officer. But it was too late for the officer as the boy burnt a hole in the wall and flew away.

"I am so getting fired for this," the officer calmly accepted his fate as he watched the boy fly away.
