CHAPTER 129

"how has the working environment been in this company?" Charlie asked.

"What do you mean sir?" Sue asked confused by Charlie's question.

"As I was coming up today, employees were gossiping about my wife and I was also wondering how the news of my wife being pregnant spread in the company when no one was told" Charlie said

"Oh, well there has always been people talking but they are not negative comments and for the news of her pregnancy, the employees deduced from the length of the time you would be in charge of the company which is approximately 10 months" Sue said.

"Oh... Okay, thanks, you can go now" Charlie said.

"Okay Charles " Sue said and leaves the office.

"Read the schedule to me" Charlie told Dan.

"Okay sir. You have a general meeting with the board of directors regarding a proposal submitted by Honor group of companies by 10am..." Secretary Dan started reading the schedule to him.

"Honor? Isn't that the company that refused to sign with Eve before?" Charlie found the name familiar.

"Yes sir" secretary Dan confirmed.

"After their company went bankrupt, they have been trying to restore it back again but no other company accepted their proposal only Devan corporation " secretary Dan said. Charlie called Eve through the intercom.

"Come to the office now" Charlie said. Few minutes later Sue entered the office.

"Did Eve accept the proposal from Honor group of companies?"  Charlie asked.

"No, that should be one of the board of directors" Sue said.

"Find out the name of the director that accepted the proposal and his relationship with Mr Honor and report to me before the meeting. You both are dismissed" Charlie said.

"Yes sir" secretary Dan said.

"Yes Charles" Sue said. Both of them left the office.

'What are they trying to get by accepting the proposal from Honor group of companies?" Charlie thought.

It was 9:30am, that is 30 minutes before the general meeting and secretary Dan came in with what charlie asked him to research about.

"Sir the name of the director that accepted the proposal from Honor group of companies is Mr Marvin" secretary Dan said.

"What is his relationship with Mr Honor?" Charlie asked.

"He is a long time friend of Mr Honor" secretary Dan said.

"Is that so?" Charlie asked.

"Yes sir..." secretary Dan paused then continued "sir we need to get going now or we would be late for the meeting" secretary Dan said.

"Let us go" Charlie stood up from his chair and left the office with secretary Dan following behind him.

Conference room ~~~~~

While inside the conference room, all the board of directors were anxious and some were scared to met the legendary Charles Powell. They heard he is married to the CEO Eve.

And Mr Marvin happen to be among those who were scared but he was more scared than others because he knew that Charlie was behind his friend's company going bankrupt. He accepted his friend's proposal because he thought it would be CEO Eve that would be attending the meeting and he would be able to make her accept the proposal. He is one of the men that feel that Eve is not worthy of her position because she is a lady.

As they were murmuring to each other, the door of the conference room opened. Secretary Dan opened the door for Charlie who walked into the conference room majestically with his hands in his pants pockets. He was eluding a commanding aura that left everyone in the conference room scared of him.

"Good morning Mr Charles" Everyone greeted Charlie in unison.

Charlie glanced at each and everyone's face making them nervous. He gaze stopped at Mr Marvin and he was cleaning the sweat on his forehead.

"Cough! Cough! Sir we need to start the meeting" secretary Dan reminded Charlie who noticed he has been glaring at Mr Marvin the entire time.

"You can start" Charlie said and someone stood up and walked to the front of the projector and started explaining the contents of the proposal. The explanation took about an hour before it ended and the presenter went to sit down. Everyone looked at Charlie waiting for him to say something.

"Who accepted this proposal?" Charlie asked with a domineering voice.

"It is I, Mr Charles" Mr Marvin raised his hand to signify himself.

"Did you study it or let it go through the regular process required by the company?" Charlie asked, a frown on his face. By now the atmosphere in the conference room is becoming cold and everyone could tell that Charlie was not happy with the proposal.

"Yes I did" Mr Marvin lied immediately.

"Really?" Charlie asked raising his eyebrows. It was obvious he did not believe him.

"Ye... Yes" Mr Marvin stammered.

"Mr Marvin right?" Charlie asked.

"Yes" Mr Marvin answered. He is practically shaking but tried his best not to show it.

"You are aware that Mr Honor rejected the contract we were ready to sign with him and he said he didn't want to have anything to do with our company, right?" Charlie asked.

"Ye...yes" Mr Marvin said.

"Then why did you let the proposal from his company pass through?" Charlie asked. He tried his best to contain his anger.

Secretary Dan who sat by his boss's side, knew that he is a ticking time bomb that would explode anytime soon.

"The proposal looked promising" that was the only excuse Mr Marvin could come up with.

"Promising? Or because he is your friend?..." Charlie paused then continued "this proposal has many errors and if it had gone through the process required by the company it wouldn't even pass the first stage and you say it's promising... You make me laugh Mr Marvin" Charlie said smirking.

Mr Marvin figured that he had been found out and tried to explain but before he could say anything, the next word that came out of Charlie's mouth shocked him and everyone in the conference room.

"You are fired" Charlie said without remorse.

Everyone "..."

Mr Marvin "... What do you mean Mr Charles?"

"Are you deaf? I said you are fired Mr Marvin" Charlie said and stood up from his chair and said "meeting dismissed" he walked out of the conference room with secretary Dan leaving everyone shocked and intimidated.

After Charlie left, the conference room was engrossed in silence before everyone started leaving the room. After about 10 minutes the conference room was empty with only Mr Marvin inside. He was spacing out when his phone rang and he answered the call.

"Hello" Mr Honor greeted his friend.

"What?" Mr Marvin asked.

"Was my proposal approved?" Mr Honor asked.

"Don't ever call again" Mr Marvin said suddenly.

"What is it, Marvin?" Mr Honor asked.

"The proposal did not only get rejected but I also lost my job because I volunteered to help you" Mr Marvin said gritting his teeth.

"What! You lost your job?" Mr Honor shouted.

"Yes and one more thing, we are no more friends so don't call me again, bye" Mr Marvin ended the call.
