CHAPTER 145

"Surprise!" Everybody shouted together making Eve scared out of her wits.

"Ahhhh!!" Eve shouted and ran to hide herself at Charlie's back and this emitted laughter from everyone including Charlie.

"Baby, do not worry, there is no danger, everything is fine", "look it is my dad, mine and your friends and also the workers on the house" Charlie said chuckling. Eve slowly came out of Charlie's back and saw that everyone in the living room were people she knows and she also saw the maids and was surprised, 'did Charlie not say he gave the maids a day off?' she thought.

"I thought you said you have the maids a day off?" Eve asked frowning.

"I lied" Charlie noticed the change in Eve's mood. He went close to her and said "we wanted to surprise you with a little welcome back party. You do not like it?" Charlie was beginning to think that Eve does not like it at all. 

"We just wanted to make you happy and welcome you home from the hospital, hmm? Just forgive us, hmm?" Victor came to the rescue because the atmosphere in the living room was awkward.

"I am not angry" Eve smiled and Charlie mind came down.

"I thought you were" Charlie said.

"No I am not but I was really scared, what you all did really made me scared! I actually thought you all were ghosts!" Eve said and everyone started laughing.

"Ghosts? Really?" Victor said in between his laughs.

"Yes" Eve said pouting.

"Well, thankfully we are not ghosts or I can not imagine what you would do to us" everyone laughed. Charlie's father stepped forward and spoke first.

"You are welcome my dear" Mark said.

"Thanks dad" Eve hugged Mark.

"You are welcome Eve" Racheal and Ginger said one after the other while hugging Eve.

"Thanks" Eve said.

Sue and Nars were the last people to welcome Eve.

"Welcome babe!" Nars said and hugged Eve.

"Thanks Nars" Eve said smiling.

"Welcome girl!" Sue said and hugged Eve.

"Thank you Sue" Eve said.

Eve was very happy. She definitely did not expect that a welcome party would be organized for her and by this she was deeply touched. Looking at everyone happy she suddenly remembered her parents....

Flashback begins~~~~~

It was Eve's tenth birthday, everyone was invited and Eve was very happy that day. Her parents, uncle George and her cousin Adriana, then George and Adriana had not shown their true colours of how greedy they were. Eve's father never knew his precious younger brother was eyeing the company at that time. Everybody was happy wishing Eve a happy birthday and giving her gifts. Eve was very happy that day.....

The next day at school, it was during the school lunch break and Eve was eating with her friends when her phone rang. She removed the phone from her school pocket and looked at it and she saw that the caller ID and is her uncle and she wondered why her uncle will be calling her when he knows that she would be in school at that time of the day, so she picked the call to know why he was calling her.

"Hello uncle George" Eve said.

"Hello Eve" George said. Eve noticed his dull voice,it was as if he was not happy.

"Is anything wrong uncle George?" Eve asked.

"Eve.... Your...." George was cutting his words.

"My what? Is everything okay?" Eve asked, she was becoming worried.

"Your parents are dead" George said.

"What did you say?" Eve asked to confirm what she just heard.

"Your parents are dead" George said for the second time.

"Uncle George, you are joking right?" Eve asked.

"No I am afraid Eve, I am not joking" George said.

Eve slumped on the chair and was not herself. Her friends called her numerous times but she did not hear them.

"Come to the hospital now we need to settle somethings. I have already informed your school about it" George said.

"I will be right there!" Eve said and ran out of the school cafeteria with her friends running behind her, asking her what was wrong while trying to catch up with her. Eve went back to the class, took her bag and told her friends that she needed to take care of a personal issues before she left the school.

She got to the hospital, as she asked a nurse where her parents were, she heard her uncle.

"Eve, you are here" George said.

"Where are my parents?" Eve asked crying. She was already crying and her eyes were already red and swollen.

"Calm down, do not cry" George hugged Eve comforting her.

"Can you take me to them?" Eve asked.

"Okay, let us go, I will take you there" George said. He took Eve by the hand and went to the morgue in the hospital.

When they got to the morgue, the attendant brought them to where her parents corpses were. As Eve saw her parents body she just dropped to the floor and was crying and her uncle was comforting her.

"Why did you both leave me? What will I do now? How will I be able to cope without you both?" Eve continued talking to herself and hitting her chest.

"Eve you do not have to worry about who will take care d you or how you will cope without them because I and my family will fill in their space and take care of you like your parents did. You would not even notice their absence" George assured Eve repeatedly.

Eve remembered all the promises her so called uncle made to her. He promised her everything; the love her parents, to train her through school and so on, although they were able to put her through school but she definitely did not feel the love parents give their children, instead she was maltreated; she was starved anytime she refuses to do what they told her to do. It was really far from all what they promised her. 

Charlie looked at Eve and he noticed that Eve was not happy.

"What is the matter wifey?" Charlie asked.

"Nothing... I just remembered my parents" Eve said. Charlie hugged Eve and used his hands to pat her head.

"Will they be proud of me?" Eve asked Charlie.

"Wherever they are now they will definitely be very proud of you" Charlie said.
