(Maria's POV)

I should have known something like this would happen.

That spineless bastard who claims to care for my daughter is doing the exact opposite.

I admit that part of the blame should fall on me but I didn't know this would happen.

"H..he left..left me m..momma, h..he l..looked a..and I..I..I a..asked b.. but he..," she breaks into another fit of hysterical sobs that just tears my heart apart.

This reminds me of the day I left her father. No one should go through this kind of heartache.

"Shh shh my darling, It will be alright, I'm here," I coo softly as I gently sway from side to side, hugging her tightly.

Kate, who had left the room earlier, returns and her expression tells me everything I need to know.

I use my eye to point at the syringe on the drawer beside the bed. Thankfully Kate gets the hint and her shoulders sag but she does what we know needs to be done.
