Chapter fifty four
(Cassandra's POV)
"Please call me back, Matt. I'm really worried now. You..you promised you wouldn't do this again."
I place my cellphone on the nightstand and bury my face into my pillow, trying to stifle a sob that's trying its hardest to escape.
That is the ninth voicemail I've sent and each one sounds more pathetic than the last.
If someone told me two months ago that I would be pining over a man like this, I'd probably have punched them in the face.
I hear the front door open and close which means mom's home. I kept some food for her in the fridge so she has something to eat, I don't really feel hungry. My stomach is already filled with dread and sadness.
I thankfully start to drift off but a knock on my bedroom door snaps me awake.
"Cassie, are you asleep?" She asks and I roll my eyes. I considered not answering but she rarely comes to my room so this might be important.
"I'm awake now," I reply and sit up, resting my back against the wall.
