The Bone Hero, Jokara

The world of villains and heroes. Something right out of comic books. But for these people, it's a reality. And it's nowhere near as fun as the comics make it seem. Tag along with Jokara, an enigma even in his own world, as he tries to discover some kind of meaning and drive for himself. Disclaimer: Jokara will become a hero. But at the same time, his actions will often be very questionable for a hero, as well as a villain. (This is my first story. In my opinion, it's really not that good, and I want to get much better. Please keep that in mind as you read it. I would seriously appreciate constructive criticism, but please don't be a dick about it.)

Chapter 03: Adoption

It was the day after I had made my decision to stay with the Wild Wild Pussycats. Last night, after Pixie Bob left, I opted to try and rest, as I was still extremely tired. There were scratches on my legs accumulated during the hunt that I only noticed now. They weren't terrible or life threatening, not even close, but it's good that the Pussycats disinfected the wounds before they became a bigger problem.

I got out of the very comfortable bed I was in. There was a rectangular glass construct in the room that seemed to show reflections. According to Pixie Bob, this is called a "mirror". For the first time, I actually saw what I looked like. (I'm not good with descriptions, so for his looks, look up "Kid Kimimaro" on Google Images. He looks like that, but right now, he doesn't have the markings (The paint)

I imagine it's not that strange for someone attuned to these things to be able to see their own appearances through their own eyes without someone like an artist, but for me, who has never seen what I look like beyond my own view, it was one of the strangest experiences of my life. Yet, at the same time, it filled me with so much wonder. I could see my own eyes, my own hair, everything. I could actually see what colour my eyes were!

After 4 or so minutes of taking in my own appearance, I left the room I was in. (Now, I forgot what the lodge looked like in Season 3, so please cut me some slack.) I was in a large, wooden abode, and there was a space with lots of tables and chairs, maybe this is their area for large gatherings?

Before I could explore the place further, I heard several footsteps to my right. When I turned to look, I saw Pixie Bob, along with three other people. all in similar outfits as her, just different colours along with some other slight differences. Two of them were women, while one of them was a man. The man was the first to speak to me.

Tiger: Hey there, kid. It's good to see you up alive and well after how exhausted you looked when we found ya. My name's Tiger!

The next one to speak was the brown haired woman.

Mandalay: Pixie Bob told us everything you told her last night, so no need to resay everything. So, looks like we're basically gonna be adopting you. My name is Mandalay.

She looked like she was about to say more, but the last woman, who had green hair, interrupted her in an extremely excited tone of voice.

Ragdoll: The name's Ragdoll!! Wow, I never thought I'd get to have a kid! At least, not so young, but, you know what I mean!! What's your favourite food!? What are your hobbies!?! Do you like ice cream?!! Please tell me you love ice cream!!

Before she could go on her tangent further, the brown haired one put a hand on her shoulder and told her to calm herself. Luckily so, I was getting more and more confused the more she talked.

Pixie Bob: These are my other teammates. As you heard, the big guy over there is Tiger. The brown haired girl is Mandalay, and the green haired one is Ragdoll. We're going to be your new family, kid.

While they are certainly strange, I don't dislike any of them. I never knew the circumstances of my birth in the tribe, and whenever I asked an Elder or someone else about it, they would give me a look of...pity and remorse, something that baffles me. I never understood why they reacted the ways they did, but I eventually stopped asking, since I never got an answer.

Ragdoll, Tiger and Pixie Bob told me they were going to go to officially adopt me, so they would have to go and create a "file" for me, whatever that meant. That left me with Mandalay to watch over me. I saw this as a chance to get to know one of my new parents better.

Me: So, Mandalay, tell me about yourself. It would be nice to get to know one of my new parents better. I'll tell you about myself as well.

Mandalay: Well, there really isn't too much I can tell you that would be too interesting. I could tell you my Quirk though.

Me: What's a Quirk?

Mandalay: Well, it's basically a power that 80% of people in the world awaken at a certain age, and all quirks are completely unique. Some might have similar functions, but there will always be something different about each one. My quirk lets me talk to people mentally, so we can have a conversation in our minds.

Me: So that's what they call it outside our tribes.

Mandalay: Hm?

Me: Quirks. In my tribe, we refer to these strange abilities as Lura. We believe that Lura are gifts from higher entities who bestow some of their abilities upon their favourite children, which is a signifier of their love for their kin. For example, if a member of our tribe awakens their Lura, and it is based on fire, it is a sign that our fire god, Yleus, has shown his love for that member by granting them a way to manifest some of his abilities. Similarly, if a tribe member awakens their Lura, and it is power based, such as a boost of strength or speed, then it is a sign that our battle god, Qhathar, decided to show his love for that tribe member. It is also common in the tribe to base lots of things about yourself around your Lura. For example, if your Lura is related to water, it is not uncommon for the Lura holder in question to be fluid, flexible, and adept for nearly any situation.

Mandalay: Interesting. Is there a deity for all Quir-Lura?

Me: Yes. However, just because a deity didn't bestow a portion of their abilities onto one of their children, does not mean they favour the ones they do bestow it onto. If a deity doesn't want one of their children to experience the hardships that will happen upon their awakening, they will choose to rather let them live without having to worry about someone coming after them because their Lura could make them a threat to their ideals. However, to make up for this, they will always give the person an incredible level of skill in a type of skill. It is up to them, however, to find out what that skill is.

Mandalay: Your tribe sounds very interesting. Do your people have a "Main" deity that the worship more than others?

Me: No. There is no "main" god, we see all of them to be just as important as each other, so we don't prioritize any of them over each other. However, you are meant to be respectful of the other deities, but nothing bad will happen if you simply don't like one. The deities aren't petty children

I was going to tell her more, but Tiger, Pixie Bob and Ragdoll came through the front door. Tiger was holding a piece of paper that had a signature in the shape of a cat on it.

Tiger: Good news kid. You are now officially adopted!!

Hope you guys are enjoying so far!
