Chapter 3

Mel downed a cup of water and laid back on the bed, she shut her eyes tightly, tossing from one side of the bed to the other trying to find a nice position to rest. Some minutes later she fell asleep.

Meanwhile the meeting Ethan had asked Charles to schedule just began. Ethan was sitted in front of the board directors who were present, Just like he ordered, the others connected via Zoom.

Ethan briefly scanned their faces and handed a white paper to Assistant Charles. Charles understood the gesture immediately. He quickly collected the paper.

"Good Day members of the board" he started and began reading the contents of the paper which consisted of the names of the different head of departments that Ethan was going to dismiss.

This heads of department were the ones his uncle, Darth had brought in. Ethan earlier made findings about them and he discovered they were incompetent and unskillful. They were merely brought in by Darth to help in sucking the company dry.

As from today, they seize to be a member of this company. Also, they are not allowed to leave with any property or a single dime belonging to this company. Assistant Charles concluded and handed the paper back to the President.

Ethan did not give any room for questioning or complains from any of them, he signaled to Charles to end the meeting. Just then one of the board members stood up hurriedly slamming his hand on the table in front of him "How dare you make such decision without informing us first, even now you're trying to make a fool of us, why did you call a meeting if you aren't going to seek our opinion?" He demanded angrily

Ethan did not reply immediately, he shot a glare at the speaker. After which he finally spoke "If you're not pleased with my verdict,you can as well quit the company alongside the department heads, otherwise do yourself a huge favor and stay quiet"

Immediately he finished speaking, He stood up and walked out, heading straight for his office.

The whole meeting room was engulfed in silence after his exit. The board members were shaken to their bones, They had never come across such a daring CEO. All the CEO's they had worked with before Ethan were always submissive to their will, trying not to get on their bad sides. Now the table has turned and they were now the ones at risk. After some minutes, they slowly walked out of the room with different thoughts lingering in their minds.

Ethan sat on the chair in his office, wearing a disgusted expression, he was purely irritated by the faces of the board of directors, Scheming Devil's he muttered. Picking up some files from his drawer, he begins to review them.

Mel wakes up after sleeping for an hour, by this time the drugs she took had started taking effect, she no longer felt nauseous or weak.

After making sure she was stable. She is discharged from the hospital. Mel Stood by the roadside along Alden street where the hospital was Rosewood hospital was located.

A cab came by and she boarded it to her friend's house. It was already evening so it was guaranteed that her friend would be home.

Mel alighted from the cab. Walking further to ring the door bell

The door opened and a petite lady came into view, she was Maya, Mel's closest friend, they had being friends since childhood.

Maya's looks were alluring, she had glossy skin, and her facial features were captivating. Her short hair dropped resting on her shoulders.

Upon sighting Mel, Maya spread out her arms for a hug, Mel walked in and slumped on a couch. Ignoring Maya's outstretched arms

"You're really out to annoy me" Maya said seating opposite Mel

"Water please I beg of you, great goddess of the river…" Mel said in a playful tone.

"Crazy girl, you always have a way to send me on errands" Maya replied laughing hard, she went into the kitchen and soon she reappeared with a whole pack of bottled water

"Drink as much as you want" She said to Mel who was looking like her source of life had been disconnected

Mel stood up and drank a bottle of water at a go. "Wow, Maya exclaimed in awe, seeing her friend gulp down a bottle of water was a shocking sight, moreover she knew mel as someone that hardly took a lot of water even while eating. So what was happening today.

"Quick! My ears are yearning for the gist," Maya said eagerly

"I quit my Job" Mel said with a radiating smile

"What? Quit what?, How? Did Jace ask you too? Aren't you supposed to be bawling by now Maya questioned, She knew how crazy her friend could be. Even in the saddest and scariest of situations. Mel would never fail to smile. She could simply be seen as a hard girl

"I understand you're worried because you think I was forced but believe me, I handed in my registration. He's a stinking pervert and was never deserving of you. Mel said patting her friends shoulder.

Jace was the CEO of mind reads and also Maya's ex boyfriend.

Jace broke up with Maya many years ago after she found out he was a cheat. Instead of being remorseful, he acknowledged it with the reason that she wasn't appealing to him. Maya's heart was shattered into a thousand pieces, it appeared she had fallen deeply in love with a playboy. The years crawled past and that love was slowly replaced by loath in Maya's heart.

Mel was aware of their relationship as at the time but she never got to meet him. Jace also did not own a company then, he was working at a cloth shop when he dated Maya. Maya later discovers that he never really loved her, he was just after her family's wealth.

When Mel got a job at Mindreads, she wasn't aware that the CEO was the ex her friend told her about. One day, Maya drops her off at the office and coincidentally comes in contact with Jace. He tries to rub his success in her face but she does not budge

Maya decides not to reveal his identity to Mel not until Mel begins to tell her about how her boss was making moves on her. Maya finally told her friend who he really was. After listening to everything. Mel became more disgusted and she vowed to humiliate him one day and that one day happened to be today.
