A WIFE ONLY ON PAPER
Third Person's pov
Carl switched on Melanie's official Mac book and went through her mails, the company's email was accessible, but her personal email was locked.
"What could be her password?"
He brainstormed
He tried "Melanie" incorrect password "melanieadams" incorrect password
He kept thinking on what could be the password, he placed his head on her desk and fell asleep.
The ringing of his phone woke him up.
"Good morning Carl" Kim greeted as he received his call
"Any news yet Kim" Carl asked curiously, ignoring the pleasantries
"No, I just needed to inform you that I'd be at your office in an hour to question Sarah and we can both speak to her mom"
"I'd be waiting for you here"
Carl responded
Carl left Melanie's office swiftly to get home, run his bath, and have a quick change of clothes
"Where the hell have you been?"
Floral nagged the moment Carl got into the house
"Not now please Floral, what I do and where I go is none of your business," Carl responded harshly
"It is my business, I am your wife" Floral nagged.
"On paper, you are just my wife only on paper nothing more"
"I deserve some respect from you Carl"
"Don't you have work to do?"
"Do you have a mistress?"
"None of your business"
"Where did you spend the night?"
"I spent the night in the office, now if you will excuse me; I have to hurry back to the office."
"How can you spend the night in the office and still want to hurry back there again?"
"Floral please not now"
Carl said walking out of her and rushing to the room.
"Carl I've been waiting for you,"
Kim said immediately Carl got into the office building
"Sorry about that, I ran into a situation, what next?"
"Let's go to your office"
"Please sit," he said to Kim as soon as they settled.
"Here's the plan, we question Sarah, then call Andrew Miller and Sophia;
Melanie's mom"
"Should I call Sarah up?"
Carl asked ready to find a solution
"Yes please"
"Come in" Carl said as he heard a knock on his door
"Sarah, this is Chief Kim, he will like to ask you a few questions.'
Carl introduced
"Okay boss" Sarah replied
"Sarah, how close are you to Melanie?" Kim asked
"I only say hello to her when she heads in and out of the office building"
Sarah lied
"Do you know where she resides?"
Kim asked
"I do not" Sarah lied again
"Is that the truth?" Kim asked in disbelieve
"Yes" She continued lying
"Sarah, Melanie is missing and we received from two sources that you've been threatening her, so we have reasons to suspect you, can you tell us what really happened between you two?"
Kim scolded her, tired of the lies she was telling.
"I don't have anything to do with her disappearance, I only went to her place once, I told her to stay away from Mr. Mason that he is a married man," Sarah said in a fright.
"When did that become your business Sarah?" Carl screamed at her
"Carl, calm down" Kim cautioned him.
"Sarah can you help us with any information?" Kim asked
"The day I went to her house to speak to her, I saw a pizza guy deliver pizza, he kept pushing the door, he was trying to come in,
I didn't make out what they were saying but it seemed the guy was someone she knew and he was threatening her, after he left and I went to her, she looked scared and pale."
Sarah explained.
"Did you get to see the name of the pizza company?" Kim asked.
"No, but the clothing was in colour wine and black" Sarah replied
"Kelly's pizza, that's where I get my pizza from, do you remember the date Sarah?" Kim asked
"Last week Thursday" Sarah said.
"Kelly called me that night, she said one of her delivery guy was attacked and injured, the guy claimed he was tied up, his pizza shirt was collected as well as the pizza, after a while, he was beaten and the shirt returned" Kim explained
"Thank you Sarah, we will call you if we need additional information" Kim said dismissing Sarah
"I need to call Andrew now," Carl said as soon as Sarah left his office
"Good morning Andrew" Carl said as soon as Andrew picked up.
"A pleasant surprise to receive your call Carl"
"There is a problem, Melanie your step sister is my personal assistant, and she appears to be missing"
"What do you mean missing?"
"Well she didn't take her calls the previous day, yesterday she didn't come to the office and when I went to her place yesterday evening, she wasn't home, we have reasons to believe someone who has an issue with her previously has kidnapped her"
"Let me make arrangements for a personal nurse to attend to my dad, so her mom can fly down, Sophia is the best person to know of Melanie's history, and I'll call her to inform her"
"Thanks Andrew, bye"
Carl replied
"I need to return to the office and get report on the search and see if any clue was retrieved from her apartment, we will be in touch."
Kim said leaving the office
"Thank you Kim," Carl said.
Immediately Kim left, Carl called a private investigator, he briefed him on what we knew and told him to do all he could.
Carl was rounding up the call with him when Andrea came into his office.
"Mr. Mason, what is the news?" Andrea asked
"Nothing yet Andrea, nothing yet" Carl said pained
"I told her to tell the person responsible about the pregnancy, but she said he was married, that the man didn't love her and she wasn't going to use the baby as an excuse to have him close"
"She spoke the truth"
"Mr. Mason, did you really not love her?"
"I don't know Andrea"
"Then why did you make her suffer, she was suffering with the news of the pregnancy, why did you take advantage of her when you know you didn't want anything to do with her?"
"I tried to stay away from her, but I couldn't"
"You didn't want to stay away, now she's in danger, and she will be worried about herself and the baby"
"Andrea please return to your office, I don't want to hear anymore" he dismissed her,
He knew she was saying the truth, but he did not want to hear it.
As soon as Andrea left his office, his phone rang
"Mr. Mason, Mr James is coming up to your office now along with your wife"
Sarah said as soon as he picked up
"Thank you Sarah" immediately he dropped the call, the door to my office flew open.
"Carl James Mason, what is this nonsense I am hearing" his dad scolded angrily.
"Hello Dad, hello wife" Carl said displeased
"Skip the pleasantries Carl, what is wrong with you?" his dad asked
"I did what you wanted dad, what else do you want?"
Carl was pissed
"Floral repeat what you told me" His dad said
"Carl has not slept in the house since we got married, even the night of the wedding, he was out, I believe Carl has a mistress and we don't want such stain to our family name" Floral was spitting out .
"Look here you two, I don't care about your family name, I'm tired of this nonsense, I don't even know why I agreed to this marriage on the first place, I have enough troubles already, you two should leave me be, everyone should leave me alone." Carl cried out.
"Carl don't you dare talk to me that way, you will go home with your wife and make peace, and that's an order" his dad said.
"I am not moving an inch from this place, in fact I need you two to leave my office, and you Floral get your things out of my house, I'm filing for divorce" Carl scolded
"What nonsense are you spitting out Carl?" his dad asked
"I'm not listening to you any longer dad, I'm done hearing what you have to say, if I have not listened to you, I wouldn't have been in this mess in the first place" his dad was surprised, it was the first time Carl has ever spoken up to him.
"What is going on Carl?" his dad asked
"You want to know?
I will tell you, I just discovered that the woman I love has been kidnapped and do you know what is worst?
She is pregnant and did not tell me about it because of this hell of a marriage I am in, so you two should get lost because when I look at you both, I realize you are the cause of my problem and I don't know what I'd do to you two if I don't find her"
Carl complained
"Carl I need you to be calm, we will find her, when you are in the right frame of mind, we will talk about your marriage, but now Floral is not leaving the house and you are not filing for divorce"
Carl was not ready to reply him, he had nothing to say to him, and so he sat down on his chair and ignored them.
"How can you tell me you love another woman when I am standing right in front of you? Carl you even got her pregnant" Floral was lamenting, Carl hated it when she nagged so much.
"Floral let's go, Carl is not in the right frame of mind, I'll talk to him myself tomorrow" his dad consoled her and they left Carl's office.
So much for having a father, he didn't even care about the details; didn't he hear when I said Melanie is pregnant?
"Hello Carl, we found a note in Melanie's room claiming she was tired and needed a break, but I think this is a note from her kidnapper, one of my men will come by your office so you can compare it with Melanie's handwriting and decide if it's hers or not"
Kim said immediately Carl picked up his call.
"I'd be here in the office waiting, thanks Kim" Carl said and hung up.
