Battle of Geonosis (part 1)

People believed space to be volatile and chaotic, but right at this moment it was calm and peaceful. The space around Geonosis was calm and silent. Around the planet a fleet of Trade Federation ships lay in orbit. Many of which where in the middle of taking on supplies and droids the moved to other systems.

The fleet it self was larger roughly 200 Ships in total orbited the planet. For the people in charge of these ships it was just another day on the job. If their intel was correct the Republic was still months away from any action that would kick off a war, and if the rumor mill was correct it would be them sending the first shot.

So as to be expected no one was prepared when an unknown fleet of 500 vessels just blinked into existence right in front of them. This was not a hyperspace jump into the system either. The ships appeared right after what looked like a miniature star showed up in the area. There where no proximity alarms are indications on radar that the ships had been on approach. Before any of the admirals on the Trade Federation ships could hail the new arrivals.

Some of the smaller vessels in the fleet opened fire upon them. The Federation ships could not detect the shots simply due to the fact that the Mandalorians where not firing laser or proton shells. Just hollowed sabot shells with an explosive suprising once the shells impact their targeted ships. Without the ability to detect the rounds fired at them the Federation ship had no reason to raise shield so when rounds hit the first 20 ships and exploded.

That was the Federation first sign that something terrible was about to happen. The first ships hit sustained major damage but they were still operational. That is until the larger Mandalorian vessel opened fire with their MAC cannons. All 20 ships were cut in half from the attack.

The Federation ships that remained raised their shields and got into a battle formation, however by now the frigate type ships from the Mandalorians had already arrived and began shelling the Federation battle line. The Mandalorian frigates where fast almost too fast for their size as they weaved in and out of the Federation battle line. Like wolves looking for the most wounded ship, and as soon as one was found 10 other frigates would attack it from all angles.

This was pure chaos for the Federation, because of the speed of the frigates it has hard to get a heavy weapons lock on the ship. So they had to resort to using anti-Figther weapons to try and stave off the attacks. It seemed to have worked as it forced many of the Mandalorian frigates away from their lines but at the cost of 15 more of their ships. That had been caught out of formation by the Mandalorians.

Not even 10 mins had passed and they where already down 35 ships. Of those 35 lost 10 of them had been command ships fully loaded with their droid army battalions. While the battle with the frigates was in fully swing the Cruisers and Capital ships of the Mandalorians moved into position. Due to the nature of the ships themselves.

The ships had no need to enter the battle at close range. They could attack the enemy fleet from a healthy distance. So they did opening up with archer missiles and Heavy turbo lasers. The heavy hitters of the Mandalorian fleet launched devastating attacks from long distance at the Federation. The Federation admirals where shocked they had never seen a ship attack at such distances before. At the ranger their attackers where at if they fired return salvos at their enemy.

By the time the lasers from their cannons came in contact with the enemy ships it would do little to no damage to the ships. They had no choice but to move the line closer to the enemy if they wanted to stand any chance at all. They also knew they need reinforcements if they wanted any chance at all of winning this fight. So as they begain to move their battle line forward. The Federation had some of the smaller patrol ships stay behind to try and hyperspace out of the system to go for help.

Unfortunately and unknown to them the Capital ships of the Mandalorians had built in interdiction fields that would stop all attempts to hyperspace out of the system. Unless those ships move a whole 3 lightyears out of the current battle. They would have no chance of hyper spacing any where. The Federation patrol ships discovered this when their hyperdrive engines exploded taking their ships with them. No help was going to be arriving for them any time soon.

So in an attempt to save as many supplies as they could the Federation admirals had their command ships return to Geonosis and land. That way they could add to the defense forces numbers on the planet and hopefully hold out long enough for one of their allies to come to their aid. With 20 more ships now leaving the battle field the fleets now only numbered 145 to 500.

The only hope the Federation had at this point was hoping the enemy did not have as many fighters and bomber craft as them. If they didnt then they would be able to destroy the larger fleet with said craft. Soon on the Federation lines space was filled with thousands of droid fighters ships and bombers.

The attack craft flew towards the Mandalorians lines at blinding speeds hoping to catch the aggressors off balance. Unfortunately for the Federation the Mandalorian ships carried with them fighters of their own. Their fighter craft were more advance than the droid ships as one Mandalorian fighter was estimated to be able to take out 15 droids fighters before they would lose their shields.

Still the Mandalorian fighters would be out numbered so the Capital ship started to move. The Ships formed up into a wedge with the largest Capital Ship as the lead and charged towards the enemy. The Federation admirals were confused by the move. That is until the ships started to open up with flack cannons the moment the driod fighters came within knife range.

With the support of the Capital and Cruisers ships the Mandalorian fighters quickly won the fighter fight and started to swarm the enemy ships. It seemed as though the end was near for the Trade Federation ships as alerts for systems blared arcoss the fleet. Many ship's shields where already red lining before the fighters showed up. Then out of nowhere the Fighters backed off, and all fire stopped.

The Mandalorian ships stopped advancing and their was a calm. Then a communcations signal was sent throughout the battle field." This is the Commanding General Jack Skywalker speaking. To all Trade Federation ships still within the Combat zone. This is your first and final chance. Surrender and you will be taken into custody and not harmed. You have lost but due to your bravery in battle we will offer you this chance to live. You have 2 mins to decide after that any ships that have not surrendered at that time will be destroyed."

The transmission ended with that, and many other internal transmission followed. The leader of this Mandalorian fleet was correct the battle was over at this point. Well the space battle any way. They could be some help as air support if they could some how send more ships from the battle back to the planet but with the Mandalorian ships at knife fight range now the chances of pulling that off were slim to none.

Some of the ship captains wanted to take the offers while the admirals wanted to stay and fight to buy as much time for the ground forces as possible. So in the spand of the the two minute time limit 40 ships powered down all their systems and sent a message of surrender, and in response the remaining 105 Federation ships opened fired and destroyed them.

The Mandalorians could not believe what had just happened, and Jack was furious. He immediately ordered the MAC cannons to target and fire upon the enemy ships and in the blink of and eye 105 and ships were turned into debri. Cut in half from the point of impact from the MAC rounds. He then ordered search and rescue teams to the surrendered ships. Even though they had been destroyed many large sections of the ships were still in tacit and could hold survivors.

With that the space battle for the planet had been won and now for the hard part the ground game. Jack and the rest of the Mandalorians where really looking forward to this part as he did not have much control over the space battle. His blood had been boiling the whole time. Just waiting on a chance to unleash his rage on a target.
