The History Of Magic

They were numerous books, tomes, and scrolls in the study. Majority of them were detailed records about the history and political structure of the Morverian empire.

It was through one of these history and political philosophy books, that Zalfick was able to gain a bit more information about the Morverian empire, and its neighboring empires.

And as Zalfick continued to read, he learnt that there was a high tension and deep disagreement between the worshippers of gods and the followers of deities. This single conflict was spread across the seven great continents and the empires ruling over them.

In the heart of this disagreement, the seven empires were divided into two. Three empires were strong followers of deities, while the other three – with the Morverian empire included, were worshippers of the nine gods.

The Golkesh empire, which was the seventh empire, ruled over the Eldbroles continent and had a neutral stance in this silent war. They neither followed the deities nor worshipped the nine gods. Their reason for that was still a mystery.

Still, the strong tension and disagreement between the two sides was about to turn into a full-blown war. But that was until the sudden appearance of taboos, and a secret society called the cult of taboos. Due to the powerful strength of this cult, a temporal truce was agreed upon, between the seven empires. And thus, the empires joined hands together to fight against the cult of taboos.

'That's interesting, but it doesn't tell me anything about the magic awakening ceremony.' Zalfick thought as he picked another book.

Looking at the title of the book, Zalfick smiled.

"Yes, this book will definitely have some info." He murmured to himself, as he began to read.

The book was titled: "The History Of Magic."

According to the book, the history of magic began with the nine gods and deities.

Aqrilla, the goddess of the sea, wind, and weather was the source of all water, wind, and weather based magic. Floki, was the god of time, space, and void. And because of that, he was the source of all time, space, and void magical abilities. The same can also be said about the other gods and deities.

Take Shade for example. He was the deity of knowledge, and as a result of that, he was the source of all runic magic and spells concerning the manipulation of knowledge and information.

However, regardless of their differences, the two types of magic can be earned through the same means. And that is through the magic awakening ceremony.

When a child is born in this world, the parents of the said child, use a special type of magic orb to check if their child has an affinity to magic. And when that affinity is confirmed, the parents of the child have to wait for the child to come of age, before they undergo their magic awakening ceremony.

The reason for that was simple. When a magic awakening ceremony is performed for an under aged child, they tend to explode after they have received either the magic of the gods or the runic magic of the deities.

This caused a number of deaths in the past. And after some thorough examination, it was discovered that the fragile and weak bodies of children were simply not able to contain the magical powers of the gods and deities. And thus, it was agreed upon, that a child must reach the age of seventeen before undergoing a magic awakening ceremony.

'I see. So basically this magic awakening ceremony is a special event were I get to choose between the nine gods and deities. However, since the Morverian empire worships the gods, I only get to choose who to worship between the nine gods.' Zalfick thought.

"This world is magnificent. Why would I be sent here to destroy it. Honestly, rather than destroying this world, I would prefer to control it instead." He further said to himself.

Zalfick then had a rather incredible thought going through his mind.

'Yes. Why destroy this world when I can simply try to control it.'

He looked at the book in his hand and sighed

'That's a really preposterous idea. They are literally gods and deities in this world. But still, I wonder if it's possible. Surely these gods and deities aren't omnipotent. If there really was an omnipotent being among the gods, then that being would have been the supreme god among gods.' Zalfick thought.

"Anyway, I'm no were near the level of godhood yet. With that said, I should try to understand my current situation first." He said.

"That Sefli of the unknown lady said that I was sent to this world for a purpose, just like the rest of the otherworlders. That means that I'm not the only one who was sent to this world. I have a lot of questions. Who sent us to this world? What is the purpose of the other otherworlders? Who is this Sefli of the unknown? I met her first, so is she the one that sent us to this world? But if she is, why would she want me to destroy it? And finally, what happened to the real prince Zalfick?"

Zalfick left the study while pondering deeply about these questions.

'It doesn't matter. I can ask her all my questions when we meet. For now, I should be thinking about the matters at hand. This world makes use of the solar calendar. Which means that tomorrow is the summer solstice; my supposed seventeenth birthday, and the day of the magic awakening ceremony. Right now, I have two options. Just like the king said, I can just worship one of the gods to receive their magical powers, or I can simply accept Sefli's cursed magic.'

"Well, I don't have to make a choice now. Plus, I can think about all that later. Right now, I really want to experience the outside world. That's what Sefli of the unknown said I should do after all." Zalfick said to himself, as he prepared to leave the Morverian castle.
