Chapter 3: Goodbye, Wallace

Bloyd's Pov

My almond shaped hazel eyes stared back at me as I watched my reflection in the mirror. I was dressed for school in my casual pair of denim jeans and a baggy shirt. My dark brown hair was packed in a messy bun and I was sure that at first glance, anyone would think I was a normal college student. Until they see the emptiness in those hazel eyes and the cold and deadly look they emitted. I stared more intently at my slender frame, trying to take a moment to imagine what my life would have been if my parents were never killed. If Alpha Tarium had never learned of the prophecy and ordered the killings of every infant. What life would I have been living by now? Perhaps I would still be in the werewolf realm with my parents. Perhaps I would have had siblings too. A little brother and a sister. Maybe I wouldn't have a need to hide my wolf form from the humans because I would be living in the werewolf realm, shifting whenever and however I pleased. Maybe Wallace would have been happily living on a ranch with his beautiful wife and twins. Perhaps I would never have had a reason to train into becoming an assassin. Perhaps I would never have been so thirsty for vengeance. So thirsty for blood.

Life would have been different if only the evil of Alpha Tarium had never laid a hand on innocent souls.

"Hey." Wallace's voice whispered from behind me and I turned my head sharply to look at him. He had his usual good natured smile playing across his lips, the corners of his eyes wrinkling slightly as he did so. I always wondered how he was still able to smile and remain so kind even after everything he had gone through. Even after everything he had lost.

"Hi." I reciprocated his smile and watched him walk into my room in a calm manner. His eyes scanned my room briefly and he sighed deeply as though he was saying a farewell to the room.

Well, technically he was.

"You look gorgeous as always." He complimented me as his eyes fell back on me again. I only gave a small smile in response to his compliment and watched him close the distance between us. As he stood directly in front of us, he reached for my hands and took them into his, giving them warm, gentle squeezes. Reassuring ones that made me feel I wasn't alone.

"You remember the plan, Bloyd?" He asked me and I nodded in reply.

"Good." He sighed deeply again before locking his gaze into mine, his emerald gray eyes now dead serious. "And whatever you do, remember to come home. Come back home to me. Promise me that."

For the first time, the reality that I might never come back home after today crossed my mind and I hesitated to answer him for a moment.

"Bloyd." His tone was stern now. Demanding. "Promise me you'll come back home."

"I…" I felt my words hang to the roof of my mouth. My heart felt heavy as I imagined never returning home to Wallace again. I imagined him sitting in our old living room, eating a cold dinner all alone. With no one around him. I imagined an old, broken Wallace having no one else to smile at or make blueberry pancakes and muffins for. As I imagined those things in my head, I felt my gut heavy with tears.

"Bloyd. Hey…" He squeezed my hands again. "If you don't want to do this anymore, we can always stop…"

"No." I shook my head at the absurd idea of me giving up on my quest. I would never go back on my cause. I would never rest until I have sought vengeance even if that was the last thing I would do.

"I promise." I finally answered him, knowing I could be lying between my teeth. "I promise I'll come back home."

I watched his eyes turn glassy with tears and he pulled me closer to his huge body in a tight hug. He held me still, tight and warm as though afraid that the moment he let me go, I would be lost forever. Slowly, I allowed my arms to wrap around the man who I owe my life to.

"I promise." I repeated, trying to believe my own words too.

I could die from this. Wallace knew about this too but was still in his denial phase. Perhaps I would live. Perhaps the gods would mercifully spare me after I eventually fulfill my destiny and put an end to the Tarium's reign.

........

I kept a close watch on Arabella throughout the rest of the day while she did her best to steer clear off my path. I have been watching her closely for years. I knew her habits. The way she twirled and played with the tips of her hair whenever she giggled. The way she selected and pushed her veggies aside whenever she ate. The way she drank her water in small bits. I knew almost everything about her.

Even the portal she used to get access into the human world and back to the werewolf realm again.

I watched and waited for the time she always went home through the portal. I was a patient person, so waiting wasn't hard. Once the clock struck 12 am midnight, I watched her leave her friend's hostel and walk cautiously into the woods. Occasionally, she would turn her head to glance behind her Incase she was being followed. And never for once did she catch the sight of me. Thanks to Wallace's training, I have been able to learn the skill of a ninja and be as stealthy as a high breed wolf.

I watched as she stopped once she was sure she was far away from any of the human eyes. She glanced one more time behind her and convinced she was alone, she began the process of creating the portal. It was the right opportunity I had been waiting for. As the blue and purple rims of the portal danced in circles, waiting for her to delve in, I finally appeared from behind her, allowing my footsteps to sound this time. Arabella almost jumped out of her skin as she turned her head sharply to see that she had an uninvited guest with her. Her eyes snapped wide open and a sharp gasp escaped her lips as she saw that it was no one else but me. The girl who wouldn't stop making her life a living hell.

"Hi, Arabella." I lifted my lips in a smirk before pushing her hard into the portal. Once it had swallowed her whole, I followed next, jumping into the portal before it closed again.

Nectar pack, here I come.
