A FAILED ATTEMPT AT SAVING A LIFE

The panic was real. All four boys were just completely blanked out. In all this time, whereas Vikram had only said one sentence, others were just unable to keep their mouth shut. Their nervousness and paranoia were at their peak. They were lucky enough not to be spotted by anyone at that time. And as it was clear from what Vikram said, Aman was still alive. And Raj advised calling for an ambulance, and it just flipped Shreyash,

Shreyash: Are you in your senses? What are you going to say, what exactly happened?....Look at us! All of us are high as heaven's door! Even if we make up some stupid story about this, they will know we are lying, and everything will end up on our heads.

Yash: Why would we suffer anything? Vikram was the one driving!

Hearing what Yash had to say, Vikram lashes on to him, and holding onto his shirt, he says..

Vikram (Angrily): WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU SAY?!!! It is not my fault! He came out of nowhere; it was his mistake! Do not you dare blame me!

Raj (Separating both of them): STOP IT GUYS! It is no time to fight with each other, we need to find a solution, and we need it faster! The man is losing a lot of blood!

Vikram: Fine! Let me make a call! Do not ask to whom! Just believe me on this!

Everyone was hesitant about including one more person in this mess, but they had no choice. Vikram went a bit far away from the boys to talk on the phone. All the three were anxious and worried about how things were going to turn out. All they could see was a man bleeding to death and their friend who hit him trying something to get them out of

that situation. As Vikram made the call, all three looked at him suspiciously. Their looks made him stand a bit further from them.

It took few rings to connect. As soon as it did, Vikram took a little time to explain things to this person. He was hesitant about speaking the truth, but what choice did he have; he spilled out the beans. He talked to the person few more minutes, and looking at Vikram's face, it became clear that he was not happy with the things he got to listen to in that call. As he cut the call, he was breathing heavily. Looking at his face, all of them were sure that he had something planned in his head, and the mystery was killing them. Vikram stood rigid for some time and then started looking around. And all of this was confusing for the boys. Finally, when he stopped, he picked up a big rock and started walking towards the car. Seeing him come towards them like that, they all got terrified, and Yash said,

Yash: Bro, what the fuck is he doing? Why does he have that rock with him?!

Raj: I am equally scared as you; I do not know what he is thinking!

Shreyash: Let me ask!... Vikram! What are you doing?! Why do you have that in your hand? And what did the person on the call tell you?

Vikram (Breathing heavily): I asked,.. what should I do? And when I explained about this,.. Sorry, I mean I explained what happened and then asked, what should we do? I mean about the way the man is bleeding,… I have been advised to hit his head with something hard and… finish his misery

Raj: ARE YOU MAD? WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT?...

you are thinking of killing him, are you nuts?! Can you hear yourself!!

Yash (In a low voice): He is... not wrong! I mean look at him! He is bleeding oceans! He will eventually die if we leave him here, it's better to give him an early death, at least it will reduce his suffering!

Raj: If we take him to the hospital now or maybe call an ambulance, we might be able to save him!

Shreyash (Shouts): WE CAN NOT DO THAT! IT IS SUICIDE!.. I agree with Vikram. We need to end this here and now.

Raj: I am not going be part of this shit!

Raj pulled the rock from Vikram's hand and threw it as far as he could. It just ignited a fight amongst all of them. Raj and Yash got into a scuffle, hitting each other with punches and kicks, while Shreyash tried to be a mediator to stop the fight. Vikram stood looking at Aman, thinking what to do next? He knew that the advice he got was correct. He took a little time, but he made his final decision. He went toward the car and opened the dickey. He started looking for something that could do the work. He found a spanner somewhere in the corner and started walking towards Aman. That is when Raj's eyes somehow spotted him during his fight. He tried to run and stop Vikram, but as Yash and Shreyash too spotted Vikram, both held Raj tightly so that Vikram could do his job. As he reached Aman, he picked up his hand to hit it on his head, and a sound made him stop, it was Aman! He was coughing and moving. Aman was finally conscious. He was spitting blood and moaning in pain, seeing him, Yash said,

Yash: FUCK! NOW WHAT?

Aman (Coughing blood): Plea…..please! Ahhhhgg…. PLEASE… Help.. help me!!!

Vikram: I..I...I am sorry!

Raj: FOR GOD'S SAKE, DO NOT DO IT!

Shreyash: Do not listen to him! You have made up a decision, and you have taken your step forward. Backing out now will be a mistake.

Yash: I do not know what's right and wrong, but as long as it helps us stay out of this mess, I don't care!

Raj kept struggling to get to Vikram so that he could stop him from making the biggest mistake of his life. But Yash and Shreyash hold him tight in their clutches. He kept shouting, hoping to stop Vikram, but he didn't take a step back, he kept moving.

Aman: Please...help me! I have.. *coughs* a family waiting. Please.. help me!

Vikram: That's what I am doing old man! Helping you,… with your pain! I am taking it away from you! Sorry that this is how it ends!

Aman: If that's the case, then don't! Please….just... LET THE PAIN EXIST!

Vikram: I wished that was possible!

Without a minute delay, Vikram slammed the spanner on Aman's forehead. It was hard enough to put the man to silence. The three boys stood spectators to it. Raj tried his best to stop Vikram first, but in the end, his efforts went in vain.

Finally, when he was free, he walked up to Vikram with his face down, and he took the spanner from him and put it back inside the car, and he did not speak a word later. He drove everyone home. There was complete silence in the car all the way along. After dropping everyone home, he took care of that spanner. He cleaned the blood of the spanner and buried it at a construction site that was half a kilometer away from his tuitions. He knew that it won't be found there, and even if it were to be found, no one would suspect it to be a murder weapon and consider it as a lost tool from someone's toolbox.
