Tensura: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Human

My name is Ito Hiromasa. I'm 28 years old and a Game Programmer who works at a gaming company. Oh,and I'm also single, though not that it matters. I'm still fairly young so I have plenty of time to search for a significant other.

I was the second son to a family that ran a family-owned business. Since my older brother decided to take over the business, I was free to do whatever I pleased. So, I decided to become a game programmer, which is why I decided to pursue a career in Computer Science.

I've always liked games; they shave away any excess time I have in my hands. They're pretty fun, though the main reason why I decided to become a game programmer, is of course, because of the salary.

Money is king, have you not heard of the saying? Haha.

Despite how I act and think, im actually quite smart. Just smart enough that I was able to get accepted into a prestigious university, where upon graduation, I was able to immediately get hired at Square Enix. Yes, that company. The company that's famous for the well known, long series of Final Fantasy.

It was truly a dream come true, after all I was able to work an easy and comfortable job while making a boatload of money. Truly, a dream come true.

You might ask, what brought on such thoughts?

In my response, I would say, why thanks for asking. That's because I'm currently on vacation.

That's right. A job where not only is the work easy and the money is great, but I also have to luxury to go on vacation. Ah, paid vacations, of course.

All of a sudden, the scream of a woman was heard and a crowd was forming near the source of said scream.

I was broken out of my stupor as I directed my attention to the chaos. "What's going on?"

Of course, it was followed with no answer as I was merely talking to myself, though my question would soon be answered by the sight that I saw.

There was a man running towards a certain direction while holding a knife with both of his hands, yelling "Move out of the way or I'll kill you!" and all the sorts, like a maniac.

I'll be honest, I was quite terrified. He seemed to be coming my way. I've lived a life of keeping to myself and staying out of trouble, so I was kinda panicking in this situation. What should I do? Should I run?

However, before I could completely make up my mind of strategically retreating, my eyes locked on to the maniac's eyes, and I followed their trajectoryーit was a young couple and an older looking man to their side.

At that moment, my mind went blank and my heart started racing like it was about to jump out of my chest. Suddenly, I felt everything around me slow down and faintly drown into the background as my body sprung into action.

"Watch out!" I yelled out loud as I pushed the triad out of the way.

Just moments after I pushed them, I collided with the maniac who held the knife at hand and was pushed back significantly by his momentum.

It was only then that I regained back my reason due to the shock from the fall, though I was mostly fine due to the adrenaline.

Fuck, what the hell is that bastard's problem?! What the hell is the police doing? I cursed inwardly as I struggled to get up from the ground.

However, before I could actually get up, there was this warm sensation that I felt near my abdominal area. No, not warm, hot, extremely hot!

I looked down towards my stomach, where a knife had pierced me and a blotch of crimson-red blood had stained my coat.

My heart sunk, my breathing got heavy, and the adrenaline was washed away by fearーthe fear of death.

Soon, the strength in my body started draining away and I once again collapsed on the floor as I stared in horror at the blood that flowed from the wound.

There was a crowd surrounding me, and they were saying something, but I could care less about that right now.

Only one thing filled my mind. It was a question.

Am I going to die?

That question alone filled me with immense dread. Was this how it ended? But then I forced myself to calm down and think.

N-no, wait. I have health insurance. Surely, a hospital could treat me... Right, let me call the ambulance!

I wanted follow up with my thought process, but my body was not agreeing with me. The blood kept pouring out of the wound and the strength in my body was draining away by the moment.

I was actually dying.

No, no, no, no, I don't want to die. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Not like this, I refuse to die this way! I still have so much to do, I didn't even get to live my life to the fullest. Fuck. As if, I'm gonna fucking die!

There was some sort of voice that resounded throughout my mind, but I ignored it as I was preocuppied with the fear of death that swallowed me.

That's right... if it weren't for that motherfucker, this wouldn't have happened to me! No... if I hadn't been stupid and instead of trying to be a hero I should've just ran away, then this wouldn't have happened!

Again, the same voice rang throughout my mind. Though this time, I was able to clearly hear it, as if the voice came from somewhere deep inside of me.

W-who's there!? I asked inwardly but did not receive an answer.

What in the world is happening? Am I hallucinating? Ah, fuck, is this a sign that I'm near death?

Though it's not that bad. Maybe it's because I can't feel the pain in my body anymore, and my erratic emotions have calmed down. How strange...

Still, what a horrible day it is today. I was in high spirits because I finally got my vacation, but here I am, laying on the floor as I slowly die from loss of blood. What a shitty day it is, actually.

I hear some people shouting in panic around me. Also... some sirens? Was the ambulance finally called? Or was it the police? Either way, they're late, that won't do, I'll have to file a complaint.

Oh, who am I kidding. It's obvious that I'm going to die before I make it to a hospital. Well, I guess it can't be helped. Though, I guess I am kinda mad that I died in such an uncool way. Being stabbed in front of a crowd is quite embarassing to be honest. But that's not my main issue. I still had so much to do, I was young and had a good career going. Alas, the Gods are ever-so cruel.

Speaking of Gods, I wonder what's gonna happen after I die. Hopefully I reincarnate... if I do, I'd like to be human again. Although being a monster or some other form of intelligent life might be cool, I'm a human by heart so it's natural I would want to be a human. Ah, but if I am reincarnated, I hope Im reincarnated into a rich and wealthy family.

There's that voice again. What even is it anyway, and what is it even saying? Reincarnation? I guess I'm far past the point of being rescued considering that I'm hallucinating voices already.

Though what should I do if I actually get reincarnated? What if it's a completely different world from Earth? Like a fantasy setting?

The idea of a fantasy world filled with magic and monsters would seem quite appealing to someone at first, but when you thought about it carefully, it'd be a nightmare. There'd be no air conditioning, no video games, no cellphones, nothing! It would be hell.

But wait. Even if there's none of that to live a comfortable life, there'd be something worth living in a world like that.

Now that I think about it, I was in the midst of finishing that game. If I remember correctly, the class that I was playing was called... Great Sage? Right, a person who roamed the continent learning all sorts of magical knowledge. I'd probably want to do something like that.

Unique Skill? What the hell is that? I know that I haven't finished the game yet, but to think I'd want to finish it so badly to the point of hallucinating about it.
