Fiona chose her next words carefully after she cleared her throat.
"If there is nothing further to be said on the subject. I'd like to call it a night as I feel very sleepy."
It seemed as if Tiamat was lost in a world of his own making because it appeared as if he did not hear a word that Fiona just uttered.
"Fiona, you never cease to amaze me and I'm being honest when I state that I have never met a woman such as yourself before."
Tiamat's tone softened and it momentarily caught her off guard and caused her to blush at his choice of words. "Yes, my beauty. Most unusual indeed."
Fiona couldn't remember the last time a man got that close enough to pay her a compliment, she never had a boyfriend before either.
The fact that Tiamat was fascinated by her made Fiona's head swim. She forced herself to calm down and not get excited by his compliments.
Fiona was determined to keep her cool no matter what, she murmured "thank you Tiamat." She tried to keep a straight face and not let him know how much his words affected her deep down. "Perhaps, we can continue this conversation tomorrow after we've both gotten some rest because I have already thought of a way, we can work together to recover the fragments of the chaos orb."
Tiamat was stupefied; only this woman could have managed to leave him speechless more than once since night with reasoning that defied logic.
Clearly, he had already failed at trying to persuade her of the dangers of being around even a sliver of a chaos orb shard.
When he said nothing, Fiona assumed she had won that round.
She pulled the fur blanket over her head but not before Tiamat managed to catch a glimpse of her smug smile in the dim light of the flickering fire.
Even though Fiona was tucked in between the thick blanket, she couldn't seem to get settled.
She kept tossing and turning and then getting up to fix the blanket.
When she moved unintentionally a body part would get exposed to the cold night air.
The animal skin that Sloan had turned into a makeshift pallet for her to sleep on began to feel like she was resting on a slab of ice, Tiamat might as well call the undertaker.
If she continued to sleep in the mixture of sweat from being too close to the fire and freezing night air, she might catch her death from cold soon.
Nearby she could hear the snores of the soldiers as they slept peacefully while Fiona struggled to join them.
She vowed to keep her complaints to herself as Fiona wouldn't want to cause Tiamat any more trouble.
Fiona didn't even hear his footsteps, just felt him yank her up from off the cold hard ground.
Then walked with her over to where he had set up his bedding and tossed her down on top of thick multiple blankets.
Fiona panicked because she didn't understand his intent, but she didn't want to rouse the soldiers from their sleep either as a result she found herself in a quandary.
Before she could make up her mind Tiamat threw himself down on the blankets next to her, then yanked her up close to the warmth of his chest.
As if that wasn't enough, he threw a leg over her hips for good measure.
Being next to him was like being next to a blazing furnace. She no longer felt cold but now she faced an even bigger problem: the impropriety wasn't lost on her.
"Go to sleep Fiona," he said drowsily.
How was she supposed to answer him when her head was anchored by chest? Anything she said was muffled by his heaving chest and she could barely move a muscle.
He had removed his day clothes and all that lay between them was his cotton pants that hugged the bulging muscles on his thighs; everything above the hips was bare flesh.
Tiamat smelled good like he just had a bath, and his hair was still damp, so that was where he disappeared to while she tossed and turned.
Every night since they met Fiona tried to sleep elsewhere but Tiamat always came for her, it was starting to feel like a ritual.
She kept thinking that each night was when Tiamat would try something, but he never did but still she refused to let her guard down as he was still a stranger to her.
Fiona recognized that if it wasn't for Tiamat's protection and claiming of her things might have gone differently for her.
So it made sense for her to not rock the boat too much and stay in his good graces.
Fiona thought that he wasn't going to come that night after their conversation perhaps triggered him.
Being a lone female in a man's world she often had to fight to get her opinions heard and she had been hoping Tiamat would be different.
When he had disappeared without saying a word, she assumed he had gone somewhere to sulk.
Fiona had been disappointed, but she prepared for bedtime, removed her bra thinking it was time she let the twins be free.
Now she regretted it as her nipples were practically poking his chest. When he breathed in and out, it created a rhythmic friction against her nipples that was intense.
Just being near his warmth rejuvenated her mind and soothed her body, she was aware of new pleasant sensations that tingle down to the moistest wet core of her body.
She was slowly getting accustomed to the size of him.
It was hard for her to have decent dreams when she was literally smashed up against his pelvis, her carnal mind flooded with graphic images of them deeply entangled.
Fiona wondered what it would be like to have his hardness that was nestled close to the junction of her legs deep inside her.
It was hard for Tiamat to sleep when Fiona kept unconsciously rubbing up against him. So close to her he could see the outline of her dimples. So adorable. So mouthwatering.
He just wanted to take that mouth of hers and kiss those sweet lips and he found himself hardening at the thought of all the things he could do with her mouth alone.
"Don't even think about it," she muttered when his head lowered.
His sleepy voice was low and seductive, "think about what, Fiona?"
