"Yeah, it's about to start," shouted Bobby, eagerly watching the lacrosse pregame show.
All the residents of the mansion had gathered; even Derek was there to watch the game, having been invited by Ethan. A few days had passed since Derek had taken over as leader of the pack, so he needed a moment of relaxation.
Cora had also been invited, but she preferred to stay alone.
Ethan didn't bother looking for her. The house was well-protected with AI-controlled cameras, so he would know if anything went wrong.
"So, for us newbies, how does lacrosse work?" JJ brought up a question that Ethan silently appreciated.
Bobby stood up, taking on the role of the expert, and explained, "Lacrosse is a fast-paced game between two teams of ten players each, who use a stick with a net at the top, called a'stick,' to pass and catch a rubber ball with the goal of scoring by shooting the ball into the opposing team's net."
"It makes sense if you don't know it. This game is mainly popular in rural cities and towns," Daniel added, noting that its popularity in urban areas was lower compared to basketball.
Bobby glanced at the screen and said, "A game that, without a doubt, women should never play—unless they're a bit special, and I don't mean physically."
Ethan was having a great time with his work friends. It wasn't common for him to spend time this way. The main reason he came to this town was to have moments like these, to relax.
Being constantly surrounded by blood and bullets was driving him crazy. There were many things he needed to improve on if he wanted to become a better man.
He had to stop killing anyone who moved.
"Come on, Bobby, we're crushing your team," shouted Daniel as he celebrated his team taking the lead.
Bobby opened another can of beer and whispered to Ethan, "Happens all the time. We'll come back in the next quarter."
"We need to shut Tom up; he won't stop eating hot dogs," said Ethan as he watched the game with disinterest. His love for the game wasn't that strong.
JJ, on the other hand, was the complete opposite, screaming as if his life depended on it.
As the game progressed, Ethan started feeling better. The sense of belonging to something enveloped him, giving him more confidence to recover.
"Come on, damn it, that's how it's done!" Bobby shouted when his team made a comeback.
As the alcohol flowed, the emotions of the moment became more intense, and by the end of the game, Daniel and Tom were arguing over the quality of their players.
"Please, Tom, don't fight here," said Ethan, who was a little drunk, pointing at the two men who were holding each other as if they were about to brawl.
The game wasn't over yet, but for them, it was. They were too drunk to keep watching.
"This is crazy. The last time we got together like this, that idiot Tom got into a fight with a soldier." Bobby couldn't help but shout when he saw his team losing again.
"Can you keep drinking?"
"I can do a lot of things, my friend. I was close friends with a great man. The students these days are turning into something supernatural; I think some of them have special abilities." Bobby, being the physical education teacher and the lacrosse team coach, knew things others didn't.
Ethan didn't doubt that he knew about some of the students who had become werewolves. Scott hadn't been subtle with his new abilities.
"Like a werewolf?" Ethan asked with a smile, pointing at a wolf head mounted on the wall.
Bobby grinned slightly and said, "My friend was a werewolf. I lost track of him. The last I heard, he was being hunted for killing a rapist. I offered help, but I never heard from him again."
"You're a good coach. I hope you don't blame yourself for this," Ethan said more seriously. Alcohol didn't affect him as much as it did Bobby, who was now starting to fall asleep.
"I don't. We need to take care of the kids."
A few minutes later, Bobby was asleep, and JJ, who was also drinking, muttered, "The game's not over yet, and we've already lost three teachers."
"One's a janitor."
