“He who fights Monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a Monster. And if you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.” ~Friedrich Nietzsche However, what if the one fighting the Monsters is already one himself? ~~~~ Ethan is a seventeen year old teenager who is currently living at a church, seeing how he was abandoned at birth and found by one of the nuns who worshiped the Goddess of Light. The clergy often treated him differently than the other orphans because his appearance was unnatural. He knew nothing about who he truly was, however, what he did know is that he was not Human like the rest of the people in the church. For years he searched for the answer to find out what he was, but all the clues didn't go anywhere. Until the night where he had a dream, or one could say a vision, where he was walking past many books and stopping in front of one. Written on the cover was a single word "Bloodborne". Ethan was determined to find that book and read it, however, is obtaining knowledge always a good thing? He would discover more about himself than he wanted to after finding that book, and many hardships would follow. ~~~~ I do this as a hobby in my free time or when I feel inspired, it will likely not turn into anything serious in the future. So be ready for it not to update daily or for a few months. Since ten chapters have been released, I'm putting the Discord Link in here: https://discord.gg/gkbWjRVmEW

Biology & Feasting

Hazel sat next to him and leaned her head against his arm, however, Ethan then did the same thing he did before in the church where he pulled her closer to him. Yet he still had a confused look on his face and began lifting his arm.

"It's fine, I know you don't have any malicious reasons behind it." Hazel once again trusted the weight of her head on his chest, then looked over at the book he had on his leg. "Is this the book you stole?"

"Yea, since I know nothing about what I truly am or what my potential powers could be I was going to take every chance I could to read this. That and learning how to control my powers and thirst were the reasons I came here."

"I see."

Ethan opened the book and began moving to the part where he left off before, though, after a few minutes of reading it, he could tell that it was just a lot of lore behind the different bloodlines. How they treated each other, their views on Humanity, living conditions, and so on.

However, the last passage that he read from the few chapters of lore made his blood boil.

"When the Bloodborne were thought to be at their highest strength and that Humanity would fall in the next thousand years. There was a worldwide kill order for all Bloodborne no matter what bloodline they belonged to.

After nearly all of them were killed there was also the ban on experimentation on Vampires, which is why it's thought that is how Bloodbornes were created. In the next twenty-five years, it was believed that all but one of the Bloodborne were killed.

The one Humanity left alone was none other than the Blood Prince."

Ethan couldn't figure out why this made him so mad. Was it because his kind was hunted down to the last one or was it something else? He truly didn't know.

He clenched his hand into a fist and started to bend the cover of the book, however, he felt a slight nuzzling on his chest, seeing that Hazel had fallen asleep and was adjusting position. Ethan sighed then set the book down and picked her up, then carried and set her down in the makeshift bed.

"You were up for over 24 hours, you should've slept when my body was evolving."

Ethan sat against the wall where he was reading the book and continued to read it after he sat down. After a while, he reached the next chapter titled 'Biology & Feasting'.

"As mentioned in the introduction, Bloodborne feast on the Mana inside the blood of living creatures. They prefer blood with high amounts of Mana so their normal prey are Mana Beasts, other Monsters, and Mythical Creatures, and don't normally consume Human blood unless they're starving.

The blood and Mana they consume is absorbed into their blood core and body, which enhances and strengthens both the body and blood-based Abilities the more blood is consumed. It is also believed that a Bloodborne can restore their own blood by removing blood from their blood core.

Much like Vampiric creatures, if a Bloodborne does not feast for a certain amount of time they will go into a frenzy, where they lose all sense of self and attack anything around them regardless if it's friend or foe. The amount of time between necessary blood consumption varies between Bloodborne ranks.

A large difference between Vampiric creatures is that Bloodborne are able to walk around in the daytime, where Vampiric creatures would begin to burn up and eventually turn to ash.

Also like Vampires, Bloodborne are very attractive to normal people and those people are drawn to them, enchanted by their looks, scent, and voice. Most people won't notice that they're being drawn towards the Bloodborne, however, if the person knows that they're a Bloodborne, they'll be able to resist it depending on the strength of their will.

A Bloodborne's entire body is extremely durable and will continue to grow in durability and strength with the more blood they consume. Along with having an extremely strong body their natural healing factor is more enhanced than a Vampire's. The natural strength and healing of a Bloodborne will increase the higher the rank.

All Bloodborne are resistant to the cold, disease, and poison, however, Bloodborne that are Royal or above are immune to fire as well as the previous immunities. At the same time, Bloodborne don't have a weakness to holy energy or silver.

Bloodborne are still living creatures, unlike Vampires. However, they can go longer without sleeping or breathing. They can also consume normal food, though it's absorbed into their bodies much like the blood they consume, meaning that they don't need to relieve themselves or produce fecal matter. Normal food doesn't contribute to their thirst either.

Bloodborne have the natural weaponry of sharp fangs and nails, which they can kill weaker prey with just these or use them if they don't possess enough mana to use their Abilities. Ancient Bloodborne are able to grow their nails and fangs, allowing them to do more damage with them.

When a Bloodborne is killed they leave behind a corpse instead of turning to ash like a Vampire, which allowed many things to be learned about the biology of a Bloodborne. It is also thought that if a Vampire left behind a corpse, that their make-up would be much like a Bloodborne's."

Ethan continued to read more of the chapter learning some useful things, but most of it seemed to be fluff pieces as if the author was trying to make a word count on the chapter. But once he finished it, he came to the chapter he was looking towards the most.

"Abilities & Personality"

What he read in the first couple of passages made his heart race with excitement because of the knowledge he had just gained. The knowledge that as long as he continued to survive and feast on blood he would forever continue to grow in strength and power.

Yes. I was just trying to make the word count at the end.
