Chapter #37

AN: I got hit by a bullet of inspiration in the middle of work. So I quickly dished this chapter out during lunch.

Zeno calmly watched as the students were gathered at the entrance of the school like it was an assembly.

The students' lazy expressions were wiped out in an instant once they saw the military unit. Some of the students that wanted to suppress their fear were pointing at Zeno while giggling.

Zeno didn't blame them, someone of their age standing next to the soldiers with a serious expression would be funny to any teenager.

Unfortunately their giggles were cut short as one of the zombies was allowed inside the gate, soldiers let one for Zeno's upcoming speech.

Immediately, the zombie was restrained with biomass cables before the soldiers brought it closer.

{Did you really have to prepare a speech?} Ouryuu questioned.

In his opinion, such a thing was needles and a waste of time, time they can use to save more people.

Yet, Zeno still decided to make the speech. It will also be aired online for the rest of Japan and whatever remains of the world at this point.

The early warning actually made things worse for other countries which shocked Zeno. He knew governments are stupid but he didn't expect them to try to turn zombies into weapons.

And now, as the general outbreak began, several countries have already fallen.

Majority of the people started to shiver as they watched the zombie trying to break out of it's bindings, Zeno's enhanced senses allowed him to realize some loss the control of their bladder.

"Sir, most students are here. Shall we start?" One of the soldiers approached and gave a salute before speaking.

Zeno faintly smiled and looked to the rooftops, there he could see Saya, Takashi, Rei and Hisashi peeking over to the courtyard where the majority are.

"We're waiting for my sister to use her brains, soldier. I am here to pick her up after all." Zeno said.

Soldier gave another salute before going back to the gate, there were no longer any zombies still walking but they still needed to move the corpses inside as per Zeno's order.

Finally after ten minutes, the one's at the rooftops and the slowpokes arrived at the courtyard.

The long waiting time allowed most of the students to calm down, most of them were now looking at the bound zombie with curiosity.

Zeno nodded inwardly before mulling over his words, he had a whole speech planned but he felt like it wouldn't fit the current situation.

He never expected to wait here more than ten minutes... His speech was for the scared students, not calm ones.

"Well, finally all the students are present. I would like to introduce myself first." Zeno started to speak.

First, he pulled out his identification, it's not that the people can read what's on it but it will make them more inclined to believe.

"I am General Takagi of the Self Defense Force. As of this morning, a plague of unknown origins has spread out on a global scale.

Luckily our country had known about it for a long time and made adequate preparations." Zeno spoke.

"Wait! You knew this was coming!?" One of the students exclaimed.

Zeno gave the poor student a death stare, shutting him up before he continued to speak.

"As I said, we already made all the preparations we could in the last ten years.

The point of this speech is to inform the common populace that we already got everyone we need in bunkers.

The rest who are still out in the open are merely extras we could do without.

So what I am trying to say is, that you either listen to authority and follow orders, or we won't be bothered with your mob asses and put a bullet through your head." Zeno ended his speech with a scary tone.

Students and those who were watching online went silent, they were shocked to hear Zeno as fear enveloped their bodies causing them to sweat.

Zeno's words were no lies, he got everything he needed to build Japan again from scratch. The scientists, teachers, farmers, everything you need to rebuild a civilization.

It was all done under wraps, not even Souichirou knew about where those people were hidden as Zeno wanted to secure all bases.

He couldn't guarantee Souichirou and Yuriko's safety without being around them all the time after all.

[Why are you even suspicious of such a possibility?] System muttered.

At that moment all three of them felt something, and looked towards Takagi Estate. Zeno could feel something had happened but he also felt like it would benefit him in the long run for some reason.

{What was that?} Ouryuu couldn't help but ask.

[We have been accumulating Karmic Virtue for years. It seems it made some effect on our Sense of Knowledge, letting us sense shit.] System concluded.

'Well it wasn't a bad feeling, don't need to worry too much.' Zeno brushed it off his mind as the students finally reacted.

Their reaction to his speech was naturally outrage, not just here but throughout the whole of Japan.

Unfortunately the SDF had already covered the whole country and those who were outraged were immediately silenced once they saw the guns pointing at them.

"Well, now that we all came to an understanding, I will throw a rope for you all. These soldiers are here to evacuate the rest to the bunkers. Important people would feel better if we tried to save you all right?" Zeno joked before finishing his speech.

Alas, none was laughing with him. They continued to watch him as he approached the bound zombie.

"This right here is an undead, we all have the contaminant in our bodies and it can be activated via biting. So, if you are bitten, you will be killed without question." Zeno informed.

People had started to shiver once more, disease being contagious was something but having it already inside you was something else.

"The undead are magical creatures currently inexplicable with science. We can detect and interact with it but that alone took up our ten years.

They're stronger, faster and do not tire. Their only weakness is that they only rely on sound to perceive the world.

So, we had already given up on finding a cure in the timetable we had. Our scientist will be working on that now that he has many subjects to play with." Zeno took a pause to let the words sink in.

The fear in the air was stifling, some of the people in their homes had already prepared to commit suicide, not wanting to live in such reality.

"And finally to kill them, you must destroy the head." Zeno said while he beheaded the zombie, he took the head to show them it's still moving jaws before he crushed it under his heels.

A trickle of Karmic Virtue entered his body, it was truly a drop but it was proof that he can get more.

"What are we going to do?" One of the teachers asked with a shaky tone. She was trembling all over.

"Just follow the orders, that's all." Zeno gave a confident smile to reassure them.

"There must be tens of thousands of them outside, how are you going to evacuate us with such a small unit?" Saya, who had been silent for a long time, finally spoke.

"Well, my dear sister. If you had listened to my words and skipped school, there would be a bigger unit." Zeno answered.

The people didn't understand what that meant but Saya nodded her head in understanding, meanwhile Saeko was smiling proudly at the back.

While people were muttering between themselves to decipher the meaning of Zeno's words, he transformed into his dragon form, scaring people shitless.

Zeno didn't bother with them and started to consume the pile of corpses in front of him, his scales turned grayish and fell as he did.

His bloodline and undead energy fought for dominance yet none of them won.

Seeing he can continue Zeno readied a devastator attack, he sprang out new scales and immediately shot them out, the scales turned into mini golden dragons and sped up, quickly covering the whole district.

The mini dragons attacked the zombies and consumed them and before coming back to Zeno through the tendrils that connected them.

The energy was too much for Zeno, he was forcefully reverted to his human form.

His blonde hair turned brown, one of his eyes' pupil completely disappeared while the other eye was bloodshot.

Seeing his sorry figure, Saeko and Saya left the students and came to his side.

"Zeno!"

"Nii-san!"

"I am fine, just give me the detonator." Zeno assured them while he spat out some blackened blood.

The soldiers quickly brought the detonator, Zeno pressed it without hesitation.

Following that the whole Island of Japan shook, all the prisons and the hospitals blew up in smoke.
