Another Night Wasted

My ex is sitting down on one of the lobby chairs, holding one of my old canvas bags that I left at her place. She looks up from her phone looks at me. She then gets up from the chair and walks towards me with a dissatisfied look on her face. "Hey." She says in a monotone voice. "Hi..." "Here's your shit that was at my house." She forces the bag onto my cold, wet body. "Thanks..?" I responded. She stares at my eyes, expecting another response, but I have nothing to say to someone who dumped me out of nowhere. Besides, I have far more important stuff to think about. Like some crazy murder.

"That's it? Just a thanks?" "Oh, I'm sorry, I have bigger issues right now." "Oh yeah? Like what?" "You wouldn't believe me... You never did." Her face has a sour look. I wouldn't blame her though, I am quite the piece of shit. But I don't want to deal with this right now. "You and me both know that you're fault we got into this mess." "I didn't do shit!" I retaliated. "Yes you did! It's because you didn't bother helping me after I got fired from my job!" "I tried everything! Okay!? I let you live in my apartment, only for you to mope and steal my shit! Now leave me the fuck alone! I'm the one that should've dumped you!" I started yelling... She then slapped me on the face, leaving a red mark stained on my cheek, but I've had worse. She stormed out of the building. Distraught washes over my face, and I glace over at the front desk. The woman working behind it stares at me and starts doing a beheading gesture with her hands, making me chuckle. But only for a while.

I walk into the elevator, whilst rubbing my cheek. Leaning against the metallic wall, I take a deep sigh and search for my phone in my pockets. It's not in there... I must've dropped it in that fucking alley. Being on the verge of a panic attack, I start taking deep breaths and press the 7th floor button. The apartment building is ten stories tall, and It's pretty wide too. I rummage around the bag, looking at all my belongings, few jumpers, hoodies and some other stuff like cologne. The elevator stops at my floor, and I start walking down the hallway on the left. I take out my keys and open my room. Walking in, I closed the door behind me and sat down against the door. Relief flows through me after taking deep breathes.

I let my imagination run wild as I stare at the ceiling, contemplating how the night went. My limbs went numb in relaxation as I try my hardest to get comfortable on the now wet tiles. I should take a shower and change. I stand up and walk into the kitchen, putting my keys on the keyholder and the bag on the bench. Walking into my room, I take off my shirt, revealing my mothers necklace that was hidden underneath. I look outside and to my surprise, It stopped raining. I sit on the window sill, and open the the window to let fresh air inside, boosting my relaxation. Looking outside I can see the lights of the city. glowing as bright as it can. It looks... Beautiful. The place looks amazing from afar, sure there are good things inside the city, but I prefer to be away from the concrete jungle. I get up and take off the rest of my clothes, along with the necklace. I put the necklace inside a box on my bedside table, and walk into the bathroom.

Turning on the heat lamps, I blast the hot water in my shower, whilst standing outside. I lean on my sink and stare into the mirror. I saw a dead body tonight, but why do I look so... Calm? My face doesn't show any signs of shock, disgust or distress. It's just a look that I can only describe as plain. Maybe she's right... I might have something wrong with me. I come back to reality when the mirror I'm staring at begins to fog up, I should probably make it so the water wont burn my skin. After constantly checking the water for the perfect temperature, I open the foggy glass door and walk in. I scrub my body with the same hands that I touched a corpse with. The feeling of the body makes me sick, There was no warmth at all, like touching rubber. I lean on the shower tiles on the wall. supporting myself as if I was going to hurl. Nothing happened. I look up at the ceiling as the hot water hits my chest, and runs down my body. Remembering the scene, there was tall dark buildings surrounded the alley, as if it was blocking the view to everyone, to conceal what was happening. Even crazier is... Those "people" were talking about what I could only assume is the dead man. Could there be cannibals in the city? Or could they just be regular killers? Murders aren't as common here than you'd think, closest thing to killing is manslaughter. Maybe there is an underground society hiding the truth, and are actually killing people and no one knows?

Water gets into my eye and snaps me out of whatever trance I was in. Thankfully too. I need to figure out if I should call the cops or not though... Well It's not like I can, because my phone is gone. I rinse my hair and apply shampoo, trying not to burn my eyes in the process. Some time later, after just basking in the water, I get out to get dry. I take out the hairdryer from the cabinet because my hair is pretty long, also because Its a bitch to dry with a towel. After I do all that, I walk outside into the cold bedroom to get somewhat dressed. Not caring about anything I just slide into boxers and lay down on my bed.

I glance at my alarm clock and it says it's 4am. Have it really been that long? It was a long night though. Usually I'd have music playing to help me sleep, but I cant because my phones gone. So I'm just staring at the celling sitting in silence...

Another night has been wasted.
