Chapter 7 – Power Index Assessment

Kyle stopped cultivating early in the morning. Today his mind was all shaky and he couldn't focus too much. He was very excited about the power assessment. He wasn't that excited about the results, but rather the repercussions. Students would finally respect him as a strong one, instead of the weakest.

The results he already knew, all he needed to do was ask the system.

[Name: Kyle Goldblood]

[Strength: 12.32]

[Vitality: 13.52]

[Stamina: 11.22]

[Qi: 4000]

[Power Index: 12.295]

[Cultivation Base: 511.28/1000]

[Qi Power: 5.1128]

[Soul Power: 2.8]

[Body Tempering: 278.45/1000]

[Body Power: 6.34]

His power increased a lot in the past couple days. It would almost increase one point a day from cultivation, but the thing that increased a lot of his stats was the body tempering that he leeched from Orpal and his gang. But he wasn't focusing too much attention on cultivating the body. It was very inefficient compared to Qi cultivation.

Qi cultivation didn't bring the most stats now, but the things he would have in his arsenal when he could use his qi would be very gratifying. He would have access to spells and magic that would be much better than just strengthening his body. He knew this because the cultivation technique he had revealed such information, it had briefly introduced some basic use of qi as well as some spells he could cast.

He readied himself and walked towards the gymnasium. The assessment would happen there.

The final months of the third year were special, all the management level teachers would pay special attention to it. Once someone crossed the threshold a power index of 20, they would be considered to have entered the Warrior Realm and would be regarded as first rank. If a student reaches Warrior Realm before leaving school, the school will receive a bonus. The bonus is calculated for each student.

So, the school will pay attention to those that are talented enough, once they find their targets, they would provide them with cultivation resources that will improve their power index a little. Just enough to cross the threshold. But students are not to find out about the Warrior realm or other stuff. The school can only push the students forward.

"Get in formation quickly." A teacher said. All the students then formed queues based on their classes, and the order in the queue was the power index from the last assessment. The highest would go first and the lowest would be last.

Kyle's queue was the shortest as there was a person missing. And Kyle was the last person in the queue. There were four big queues and four assessment machines. The machines were simply a chamber where the person would be scanned from head to toe. Then the power index would be displayed on a big screen above the chamber.

The official results would be put out in a list on Monday, but students would already know their results at the time of the assessment. This is why the higher ups were here, they would be able to see first-hand the people they would need to nurture.

"It's a pity Orpal is not here. I wanted to see his progress this last month." One of the teachers said.

"I'm not really that optimistic about him. He spends too much time bullying others and fighting. This is what got him in his situation in the first place." Another teacher said.

"But there are other good seedlings as well. Let's see how this will go."

"Alright. It's going to start. Shut it will you." A grumpy old teacher said.

Soon it began. As the students with the higher power index were on the front, not many surprises occurred.

"Dalio Fordsatin." A teacher commanded. The student walked forward and entered the machine. Two minutes later he walked out, and his assessment was out. "14.19" The teacher announced. Then he continued "Layla Hempshire" and the student walked forward. Another two minutes later "13.58" The teacher announced again.

A similar scene was being repeated ahead of each queue. But it didn't take long for the numbers to dwindle drastically. The fourth student in Kyle's class had a power index of 8.78, a whole three points lower than his previous classmate that had a score of 12.04. The rest of the queue continued with no surprise.

There were 30 students in each class. Which was a coincidence this year. Although the numbers are divided equally, there are always some classes that have one student more than the others.

Kyle was getting bored waiting. He was the last to take the assessment, and it took almost an hour to get to his assessment. Most of the others were in the range of 8 points to 5 points. Kyle was the only one that was truly behind. But that was before, today he would show the world that he wasn't a pushover.

"Kyle Goldblood" Finally his name was called. He took his assessment and after he left a number was displayed.

"12.29 … what 12?" Not even the teacher believed his eyes. Kyle left the machine with a smug look on his face. This wasn't the first time he left with this face before. He was hotblooded before and liked to provoke others. But this time he was truly confident.

"No, no, the machine must be broken." The teacher said.

"It's not." A man walked over. He was tall and had silver hair. He was muscular and had a serious expression.

"Principal!" The teacher said.

"Congratulations young man. You managed to go from the worst to barely acceptable. Do you care to share how it happened?" The principal asked.

"I think it has to do with my previous book, it was somewhat incomplete. When I compared it with another book, I could see many things missing. I started to apply the missing content and my strength soared. Of course it has stabilized already." Kyle said.

"I see. Do you mind if I check you previous book?" The principal asked.

"No problem, I go get it ASAP."

"Go. I'll be waiting here." The principal said.

"What do you think he meant by his book being incomplete. Aren't all books given to the orphans the same?" The grumpy teacher said. He thought that Kyle was making a scene. Everyone was thinking that Kyle found a resource or something like that, since that was the best excuse for an explosive surge in power.

"We will find out." The principal said.

Hank started to sweat, he knew now that there was nothing he could do against Kyle. It's very much likely that Kyle was going to be monitored by the higher ups. But that wasn't all, Kyle managed to uncover the secret he has been hiding all over these years. He tampered with the books given to the orphans to manipulate them into doing his bidding. He was the teacher in charge of the orphans after all.

Soon after Kyle came back with a book in hand. The principal was the first one to arrive in front of Kyle, he simply dashed and stretched his hand before any teacher could see what was happening. Why, because an accusation that the book is tampered with is simply too serious.

When he revised the book, his expression was ashen. He looked at Hank with an angry glare.

"Hank, I want a report on why this has happened on my desk yesterday." The principal said angrily and threw the book on his hand towards Hank.

"Yes sir!" Hank grabbed the book and dashed towards the exit.

The principal then looked towards Kyle and smiled and spoke. "I'm sorry this has happened to you. We will investigate properly. Come to my office and let's talk about this."

"Okay" Kyle said. And followed the principal to the exit, going to his office later.

On the way, The principal grabbed his phone and sent a message, then he continued walking towards his office.

Once they were inside, the principal closed the door and asked. "How did you find out about the book?"

"I was not satisfied with my progress, and it didn't make sense that the other orphans kept growing stronger while I kept being so weak, if we all learned the same technique."

"I'll will tell you the truth. You book works, but it's so slow and it will hurt you in the process."

"No wonder I felt so much pain when practicing it. I thought it was normal."

"A little pain is normal, too much pain is not. But at the same time, just changing the book shouldn't be so tremendous."

"Alright, I was going to keep a secret, but it seems that I can't hide forever." Kyle said. "I never checked on another student book. It was earlier this month that I had found out that my book was weird. I commented this with teacher Thomas and he lent me a new book. It's called Sword Body Refinement. This is why I have been progressing so fast so far. Of course I think that there are some conditions as to why I have been progressing so fast."

"I know that ability Sword Body Refinement. It's just an advanced ability compared to the Basic Body Tempering, but the effects should be similar. It still doesn't explain."

"Maybe I'm talented?"
