"We've really done it now," Illya said. She put her hands behind the back of her head and leaned up against the brick wall of the cell with me.
"I can't help but think that wasn't the right decision. I feel guilty about it... I have to face their parents and tell them I killed their children." I mumbled under my breath. Illya grabbed my arm and pulled it close to her, looking me in the eyes as she said her next comment.
"You did what you thought was right. Kids like that don't deserve second chances, especially if they deliberately wanted to cause trouble. They ruined Belle's opportunity to advance in MTG at the same rate as everybody else and smiled. What kind of normal child does that? If you ask me, we should kill his parents too." She told me.
"That's just being a murderer. I'm sure you could convince me what I did wasn't wrong, but it still won't ever feel right." I responded. I backed away from Illya, but she kept getting closer and closer to me. She was freaking me out.
"Guilt is useless. My parents want me to be a Deity, and they told me sometimes I have to do things nobody else would ever want to. That's part of my job, and I regret nothing we've done. You shouldn't either... but if you must feel guilty about it, then feel it right now so you can forgive yourself later." She said. She finally went back to sitting against the wall with her eyes closed, humming some sort of tune.
I guess she was right, but it was still taking the life away from somebody. Mom even said it herself, do things others would never want to do.
Was this what she was talking about?
My mom didn't have a good past, as I have learned. I knew she killed people, but never wanted to tell me, so how would she react when she saw me? Has she ever done something like this?
"SKY! HEY!" I saw Shike's white head pop in between the guards guarding the path to the cell down a stone hallway. He screamed out for me. "HANG IN THERE! Get off me! What the hell is your problem?! Hey! Sky! Belle's okay!" Shike screamed out before being dragged out by the guards.
"That's always good news... but what about us? Especially me, I killed unprovoked, hopefully I reduced your sentence." Illya said.
"Do you think they'll even let me see my parents?" I said. I didn't even mean for it to be a question, but Illya answered it anyway.
"Does it matter? Eventually, you'll leave their side for good, it's good practice for now, don't you think?" She said.
"I appreciate your positivity, but I just want to know if I'm justified... I just want Mom and Dad." I said. Ah, there was the child in me. I wanted to reject it, but truth be told, I just wanted to see my parents. Even Cynthia. Somebody that can tell me I'll be okay.
"Sorry, I can't provide them for you. If it's any consolation, we're in this together. We're both criminals, and we both know we didn't do anything wrong. Maybe, if you can't find your parents, you can look to me for comfort. After all, I'm the same age as you, we can be friends at the very least." She said to me.
"Why did you take the bullet for me, Illya? I barely know you..." I asked her. I was still waiting for my parents to turn the corner at any second.
"I think that is hard to answer. Don't call me weird... but you and I have a connection of some sort, I can feel it deep in my heart. I'm not sure if it's because our abilities are the same or what, but I know that we should be friends together and stick close by. We can give each other comfort in the times we need it... I guess." She said, scratching her head while facing away from me.
Ah, I understood. Illya was just trying her hardest to comfort me because my parents weren't here. She was a sweet friend.
"Thanks, Illya, I appreciate it. For as long as I can, I'll do the same for you that you do for me." I told her. With a light smile, she turned her head again and faced the wall.
"Hey, Asterio. It's time. Let's go." The guard said, opening the gate. I got up and started to move toward the door when Illya grabbed my hand and pulled me down toward her.
"Take this." She whispered into my ear. She put something onto me and it sunk into my skin to stay hidden. "It's a tracker. I will find you." She muttered before sitting back down again. At least I would have her if nobody else.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked the guards as they placed my hands in cuffs. They nodded their heads forward, directing me to Zach and Gabrielle, followed by four parents, probably of the children I've killed.
"Sky, before we send you off to be exiled into Rubeki territory, we'll give you some time to talk to your friends and the parents of Richie and Dyna," Zach told me.
I turned away from the parents and looked back at Gabrielle. "Excuse me. Is Belle okay? Will she be able to continue her time at MTG?" I asked her.
"You coward! You won't even speak to the parents of the children you killed? My son Dyna would never do anything so sick and twisted, murderer!" I heard from one of the parents.
"She'll be fine. Don't worry about her." Gabrielle reassured me. I took a deep sigh and looked back at the parents.
"I regret killing them, but they threatened my friend's lives along with mine, while they attempted to kill me." I lifted up my shirt as I explained, showing the patched wound in my chest.
"That was probably retaliation! I wouldn't put it past an Asterio to be that violent. Your mom was the same way." They said. I felt that blinding rage overcome me and snapped the handcuffs at the chain, slamming my hands against the stone table in front of me with hatred in my eyes.
"Don't you dare talk about my mom like that! I'll give you a real reason to think the Asterios are a family to fear," I told her. She shot back in surprise after hearing the cuffs break.
"Enough! So, Sky, are you admitting your guilt in ruining these families' lives by killing the children?" Zach asked me.
"Aren't you the real criminal? They have names you know, it sounds like you don't actually care about Richie and Dyna, you more care about exiling me. And yes, I'll admit that in self-defense I ended the lives of Richie and Dyna. They threatened mine, along with Belle's and the rest of A-Ranking, so I did what nobody else wanted to do. We are united to fight the Rubeki, not each other. They weren't thinking correctly, and now we don't have to worry about them." I told them.
