Chapter 4: Dragons of ages past

" Here's twenty for you Kora and Twenty for you Dan." Iver said as he threw bundled stacks of money on the table.

" Well, that's new." Kora said as he and Samuel took the money from the table.

" I Added the extra five because of the risk, it's a miracle to see the viper kill someone and see the next morning." Iver responded as he lit a cigarette.

" I thought you didn't believe in miracles." Samuel said to Iver, he didn't know how he recalled the memory of Iver saying he didn't believe in miracles.

" Finally he speaks." Iver said as he took a long drag.

" Well, I still don't but I acknowledge it when I see one." Iver said.

" Okay, we will be leaving and make sure to contact us when you have a job." Kora said and they walked out of Iver's office.

" Stay safe." Iver muttered under his breath.

Kora and Samuel headed to the hotel room they lodged with a cloak on to keep their faces covered, they don't know maybe the Viper still planned on killing them.

They avoided dark alleys, less crowded streets and drunk thugs as they walked towards their hotel room. Getting to the entrance of their room, Samuel noticed that the door to their room was unlocked but they locked their room before leaving.

" Someone is inside." Samuel whispered to Kora and they prepared their weapons as they backed away slowly from the room, planning on escaping.

" Just go inside." They both heard Susie behind them.

" What do you want from us?" Samuel asked, cautious.

" Your dead bodies in a hole." Susie responded with a teasing smile on her face that Samuel didn't notice as he threw a knife at her face.

Surprised, Susie managed to dodge the knife but Kora and Samuel already ran the other way.

" Where do you think you are going, eh?" Susie said and she ran after the both of them, soon she caught up to the both of them and Samuel threw another knife at her to slow her down but she caught the knife easily before throwing the knife at Kora. Before Kora could react, the knife was already in his leg and he fell to the ground.

" Fuck!" Samuel ran back to Kora but Susie got to him before he could get to him.

" Are you guys ready to talk now?" Susie asked.

" Just get off him and let's treat him, the knife is poisoned." Samuel shouted.

" Well, here's an antidote with me that can cure any poison, both of you will come with me and the antidote will save his life." Susie said as she displayed a vial that had blue liquid in it.

" Sure, let's fucking go!" Samuel said and they all headed back to the room Samuel and Kora lodged in, Susie gave Kora the antidote before sitting on a chair in the room.

" Why would you do that?" Samuel snapped at Susie when he noticed that Kora was healing rapidly.

" Do what? It was your knife, all I did was use it against you." Susie said as she chuckled.

" Okay, enough bickering." Samuel heard Tiana say and he raised his head in surprise, he couldn't notice her in the room and that was almost impossible unless she used supernatural abilities.

Samuel slowly took a knife from his clothes as he backed away, Tiana is an assassin working for the Viper and she being here means she knows that they were there the other night and Susie almost killing Kora means that the Viper is far from being done with them. If he would die, he would die after his enemies are littered with wounds.

" You don't have to get so tense, if we wanted you dead, you wouldn't see this morning." Tiana said as she chuckled.

" So what do you want?" Kora managed to say.

" We didn't mean to interfere with you guys." Samuel said before the ladies could respond.

" Who are we?" Susie asked, amused.

" The viper." Kora whispered.

" Well, you know a lot and you know what could happen to you two if you annoy any of us." Tiana said as she also found herself a seat.

" Sit down." Tiana said and Samuel sat down, Kora also sat up.

" I have a job for both of you, me and Susie are mercenaries for this job, not workers for the viper." Tiana started.

" I know you guys were the ones that took a part of the powers of the fire god artifact." Tiana said, the fire god artifact is the cultivation artifact that Kora absorbed.

" It's wind, not fire." Kora said.

" No, it's fire. One of the fire gods in the origin war was killed and he put half of his power into a cultivation technique then he gave it to his special bodyguards to keep it safe, away from the wrong hands. All his bodyguards were powerhouses and they all had the power of wind so that's why rumour has it that it's a wind cultivation artifact." Tiana paused to let her words sink into Kora.

" So, as part of the deal, I will awaken the ability of fire in you and you will get ten million dollars as payment after the job is done." Tiana said and Kora almost dropped to the ground, he had never dreamed of someone offering him ten million for a job. Even a whole mercenary team was not offered that amount.

" And Dan, you will get fifteen million dollars after the mission." Tiana added and Samuel sucked in a deep breath. Even on Earth, fifteen million dollars was a huge amount that in his mind was reserved for celebrities, super star athletes, business men, gangsters, politicians and every other person that occupied the top five percent.

" Do you agree to these terms?" Tiana asked.

" You left out the mission details, we should know what we are getting into." Kora responded.

" Well, we are going to Gomorrah to slay a dragon." Tiana responded and Kora shook his head vehemently.

" You are mad, you might be strong enough to survive in Gomorrah but what about me and Dan?! We can't even survive a full blown battle, now you are saying we are going to one of the most dangerous planets in the galaxy." Kora said and Samuel listened intently to what Kora said.

" Why us? Why did you choose us for this mission? We are just normal humans." Samuel asked.

" We need companions desperate enough to take up this mission with us." Tiana said.

" So do you agree?" Tiana added.

" It's not like there's a choice, take the mission and die later or reject the mission and die now." Kora responded.

" Well, you are smart, very smart." Tiana said.

" Dan, what do you say? I have made my decision already." Kora asked.

" We are taking this mission." Samuel said and Tiana burst into a full blown smile that Samuel liked and hated.

During the origin war, a dragon arose in a small planet named Gomorrah in the galaxy. Dragons were powerful creatures that would turn the tide of the war in the favour of any force that controls the beast. Different planets, continents, kingdoms, clans, families sent their forces to capture the beast but the result is a dead dragon and Gomorrah on the verge of destruction.

None of the forces that were sent to the Gomorrah made it back because on the last day of the battle on Gomorrah, a loud bang that resounded in the surrounding stars and planets was heard and since that day, all that set out to capture the dragon and all the forces that went ahead to Gomorrah to check on the forces that fought in Gomorrah were never heard of. And since that day, hundreds of years ago, nobody had dared to step on Gomorrah.
