Chapter 1Alan Wayne

"Hello, my name's Alan Wayne, it's year 2540, November erm… forget it, the date isn't really important. It's been 300 years since the invasion. Ironic, right? Just when humanity was at its peak, technology and science reigning supreme, it all changed. Were they aliens? A product of science? We don't know, all we know is that we were introduced to a foreign species that appeared from nowhere."

"And just as most people expected from a foreign species, they almost wiped out humanity. Over 90 percent of the world's population were killed, but the struggle to fight back became fiercer. Yes, these things are stronger and more powerful than we are, but thanks to the rift that they used in coming in, humanity started to evolve. Some people are blessed with a certain energy that we refer to as chaos energy."

"This has helped us in our fight against these beasts, but it still hasn't been enough. We are slowly dwindling, and after 300 years of constant battle, we're left with about 8 percent of the original population. Least I forget, humanity was around 35 billion in population at the time of the invasion."

"Some people call it the apocalypse, some call it the downfall of man. As for me, I just want to live old and die. That's all for today folks, tomorrow we'll get back to our lessons, I'll be telling you about the chaos energy."

The recorder in the hands of young Alan Wayne was kept back in his bag. He was sitting on a stone surface, in what looked like a kitchen in a debilitated building.

"You're doing this shit again?" A young man around twenty years beside Alan asked with a look of disgust on his face as he walked in.

"It's a podcast, people used to do it all the time," Alan refuted, not bothered by the look he was getting.

"Yes, when people actually listened. Since you got this recorder, I feel like you've been going nuts," The young man said as he continued approaching Alan.

"Ezekiel, I'm warning you, stay back," Alan retreated.

He was no match for Ezekiel who was older by two years.

"Hehe, come on, let me play with it as well," Ezekiel smirked as he tried to take the bag on Alan's back.

While the duo were struggling in the abandoned apartment, a figure walked in.

"Ezekiel, Alan, this isn't the time to play. Gather what you must and return to the truck, we are leaving shortly," A man with a strict look said.

The apartment was dark, so the face of the person wasn't clearly visible, just like that of the two youths inside. But one thing that was noteworthy was the empty space in the position of his left hand.

"Yes sir,"

Both youths who were fighting a few seconds ago stood up straight before they started to search the apartment for anything that might be of use to them.

It was unknown how long this place had been abandoned, the walls felt like all they needed was a push and they'd fall straight to the ground.

They searched for over three minutes, but were unable to find anything.

"Come on, let's get back to the truck," Ezekiel said while leaving the apartment.

Alan nodded before following behind.

Coming out of the apartment, Alan's figure came into full view. He was 5'10, with a slim but athletic build, he had short blonde hair and blue eyes. His face was round, with full cheeks. He was wearing a black jean trouser with a short-sleeved round neck blue shirt.

Ezekiel on the other hand was already sprouting beards, he was taller than Alan, standing at 6'1, and had a black hair with brown eyes.

"Nothing?" The one armed man asked.

The duo shook their heads, which were hanging low.

"It's okay, I knew these places wouldn't have much anyway. Only God knows how many times it has been ransacked," The one armed man patted the duo on their back before jumping into the back of the pick up truck.

The duo followed suit.

Three more youngsters also came out from other sides of the abandoned apartments. Two young men and a young girl. They were all around the age of 16-21 years.

Just like Alan and Ezekiel, their search was in vain as well.

The one armed man tapped the top of the vehicle, and the driver inside got it started.

The tires of the truck screeched on the road before moving off.

"*Sigh* To think this used to be a good road with people living in all these abandoned houses," Alan looked around as the truck moved down the street.

Some of the houses they were passing through were completely destroyed. Some had claw marks, while a few were still intact.

The car drove for hours, leaving the good road and heading into the forest.

After three hours of driving, they stopped in front of what seemed like an empty field.

Everyone came down from the car, except for the driver who drove it further before it disappeared into a tree by the side.

"This never gets old," Alan said as he stared at the place the car disappeared into.

"Come on, we better get going. There has been reports of Siliks sightings in this area lately," The one armed man walked forward before bending down.

He used his hand to move the dirt on the floor, and the opening to an underground bunker was revealed. After opening it, he waited for the youngsters to go in. The driver of the car came and they all went into the bunker.

Since the apocalypse, humans started to live in different settlements, gathered together to try and fight back against the beasts that invaded Earth.

Some settlements have perished, while others have been able to thrive thanks to special people who managed to gain the power given to them by chaos.

Not everyone can wield this power, although all humans have been in contact with chaos energy since it's in the very air they breathe, only a few manage to actually awaken its power, evolving. They are blessed with the ability to use one of the four elements, wind, water, fire and earth. Scientists have also been able to harness this energy to create a weapon that could kill these beasts that invaded Earth.

All in all, the fight against the beasts is growing stronger everyday, with new wielders of the chaos energy being born daily.

The wielders of this energy are known from birth, and they are generally referred to as, the Supremes. They formed a group known as the Supreme Corps that was specially created to train future chaos wielders to fight against the Siliks.

Disclaimer: I'd received a few complaints from some readers that my MC is not a real villain, and I have to agree; if you're looking for some complete psycho MC who burns random farmer villages down just for fun then don't read. The MC is a ruthless man who does evil things from time to time, but only to his enemies or those he considers to be true scum. He gains no joy from tormenting strangers. Also don't read if you want a story about buying s*x slaves and r*ping them, that doesn't happen in this novel. He will treat the women he wants to be with as if they were normal people, whether they're slaves or not.

GlaringError here! As I have already mentioned in my author review I am restating it here since I am getting tons of comments about it, that I am more of a reader myself than a writer, I made this novel in an attempt to capture my fantasy world residing in my mind into words.. Writing is new for me.. The premise of my novel is inspired by many great works that I have loved over the years. And some elements I have in my novel that are slightly similar to them but it's just the skeleton of it, the real meat of the plot is entirely my own cooking. Some of the influence that is more noticeable is from The Runesmith (By Kuropon), The King's Avatar (By Butterfly Blue) and Shadow Slave (By Guiltythree). I have immense respect for these legends and I can only hope to follow in their footsteps. To all those who comment just by judging the name, at least give it a chance before letting your opinions be known. Thank you.
