109 The woman also weeps in the grave

The widower doesn't know how to soothe his daughter.

The sky is covered with dark clouds, and it might rain at any time. Not many have come to Fumiko's funeral -- she left a will saying that she wanted it to be private.

Fumiko parents, who are in their late sixties are standing a little away from the grave. Her mother is sobbing on her Fumiko's father's shoulder while the old man tries hard to hold back stinging tears in his eyes while his lips tremble.

As the coffin descends into the grave, Nishimura Soichiro pats his daughter while tears stream out of his eyes.

"It's time to go." Fumiko's father touches Nishimura Soichiro's elbow and tells him after the grave has been filled, "Rika needs care."

"I want to stay here a little longer," Nishimura Soichiro says to him with a hoarse voice. "Please take Rika home."

Fumiko's mother takes the child in her arms and tells him, "Don't stay here too late."
