With the sudden change of behaviour, the woman let it slip by, focusing on what she came to do.
She spun her gun around from the trigger guard before she slid it back into her gun case placed around her waist.
After putting it back in, she held the middle area of the cigarette with the hand she used to point her gun before inhaling the cigarette placed at her mouth.
Ashen smoke arises as she exhales.
She then looked up just above the ceiling where the man who had been lingering creepily was stationed.
"Hey, vermin of the 3rd."
As the person above me was called, he immediately saluted before answering back.
"Y-yes ma'am!"
The next thing I knew, I tried to look up, withholding the fear I'd been feeling ever since they came, but before I could even turn my head, the woman right in front of me spoke in a cold voice.
"Hey kid, who told you to look up?"
In that instant, she knew what I was going to do, and so she warned me.
"If you ever move any part of your body, I'll have that vermin right above you cut off your neck nice and clean, understand?"
At that moment, I wasn't able to muster up any sort of courage to defend myself and my Mother, who was lying right behind me.
"Good kid, now, cuff 'em up."
With just a single sentence, she ordered the person right above me to cuff me, which he obeyed.
"Yes, ma'am!"
The way he jumped down from the ceiling onto the floor looks as if he's imitating a spider.
"Now, get your hands behind your back."
"...."
I, on the other hand, remained silent and unmoving as if he'd just done thin air which came out of nowhere.
The person behind me then leaned his head to my left ear and shouted.
"HEY! ARE YOU DEAF?! I SAID GET YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK!"
With how loud he shouted, my eardrums eventually bled out.
The woman who was standing in front of me with her arms crossed spoke.
"Oh~? Ain't this kid interesting? Though I did tell you not to move, you really stuck through it.
Then, if you're going to play this kind of game in front of me, how bout we do this?"
The woman with a dreadlock hair swayed her hand and ordered.
"Two people, to those who just laughed earlier, if you wish to redeem yourself, then grab the hands of that woman lying on the bed! And bring her forth to me!"
Hearing her trying to do something to my Mother, I cried out and shouted.
"HEY! LEAVE MY MOTHER ALONE!"
Finally, upon hearing my Mother get threatened, I was able to say something, but what occurred next would also be the consequences of my actions.
A mouth is a dangerous thing to bear. It can even get you killed if wrong words start to spill out.
As I locked eyes with the woman ahead of me, I saw her grin for a second before it turned sour.
"Kid..."
Suddenly I was pinned down to the floor. I didn't know what happened at that moment, but I could surely tell that a force was pulling me down to the floor. I can also see that her soul suddenly grew bigger!
'Argh... such a heavy feeling... I feel like being sucked into a vortex...'
With my face facing downward, I tried to lift my body using all the strength in my hands and feet.
I struggled and struggled, and eventually, I accepted that I'm so ordinary despite being the sole son of the strongest person in the 1st Rius Children.
"I'm really weak..."
Or is it because I was in a weakened state?
"No... That's just me making up some excuses to hide my inability to protect my only Family left..."
Or is it because I wanted to be like my Father?
"No... There's nothing like a second Nucleus..."
Why? Why are you so adamant about protecting your family?
"They're the only ones who showed me what love is..."
And now they're both dead. No, one is still alive but mostly dead.
"She's not dead... She's... Not dead..."
Don't escape it. Accept it. Accept the truth as it is.
At this point, I started talking to myself while being pinned down by an unknown power.
Hearing my cries, the Rius Children surrounding me thought that I was suddenly becoming hysterical and that I'd taken refuge in talking to myself.
The woman then stared at the top of my head.
"You're really pathetic. To think that you're going to undergo the same treatment as us just because you're his son is making me nauseous."
At this moment I thought.
'Same treatment...? What treatment...? It's so dark and cold in here...'
As time went on, the pressure eventually got stronger and stronger, which soon got me to faint right on the spot.
'I'm not sure of what they're doing to me and my Mother outside but it felt cozy laying down... Doing absolutely nothing.'
Is what I thought as I sank deeper into my consciousness.
The cold and eerie silence comforted my tired mind, and gently, I closed my eyes. I, on the other hand, accepted that I'm not cut out to do anything.
'Is this what it feels like...? I don't want to wake up... Let me rest... Even if just for a minute...'
As I was in the lowest of the low, something approached me in that cold void.
"I was wondering where all that "I'll get my revenge" was coming from but you disappoint me."
Hearing a familiar voice I opened my eyes just to see myself staring right into my eyes.
"What are you?"
I questioned.
The "me", on the other hand, answered.
"I am your pain, your darkness, your silhouette of suffering, and also your nightmare."
