Roy Quin was the son of a great astronaut. On one of his many trips to space to visit his father a disaster struck. He was left stranded in space with only a 24-hour oxygen tank and a 6-hour heating space suit. Just when he thought death was inevitable he was sucked into a black hole and into the future of interstellar. Humans have advanced bloodlines, aliens coexist, and planets and space travel were no longer an issue, even a toddler could fly a spacecraft. he appears to be the only one not crossbred with some alien species. He's the last human. A lost and confused human, in a world of too many possibilities. Not only that, but he keeps hearing his father's name even so far into the future. くコ:彡
Red lights flashed, my ears rang with the sharp blare it brought with it, and my vision constantly dove in a black inkiness before being thrust into the strong light that stung my eyes repeatedly. I didn't know what was going on. I was reading in my room peacefully and then everything went into chaos.
I pushed my door open feeling disoriented from the constant change of flickering lights. I sprinted down the corridor almost sliding into a wall at the sudden jerk of the spacecraft.
'That's not good,' I instantly thought feeling my heart thump in fear. Finally, I saw someone in the hallway, he was familiar with a head of brown hair and the back of a burly bear, my dad.
"Dad!" I called out rushing towards him. His head whipped around at my call and I almost stopped by the look on his face. His eyes were wide and I could see sweat trickle down from his forehead. Something was wrong. "Son," he rushed over to me grabbing my face and pushing my wavy brown hair out of my eyes, he held my cheeks with a tender gentleness. He had a look of relief but the panic was still evident in his shaking fingers and the tears that made his eyes more glossy.
"Dad what's going on!?" My dad was never like this, he always had a strong front and rarely showed emotion like this, and it terrified me.
My dad seemed to snap out of it but didn't answer my question. Instead, he held my face tighter and looked around in alarm as if searching if anyone was around. He looked deathly serious as he solidified his exterior to iron and grabbed my arm pulling me away in a frantic sprint. "D-dad what's going-"
"There isn't time to explain I just need to get you out of here," his thick Nigerian accent cut me off quickly and pulled me into an escape pod. Another quake of the ship had me toppling over but my father paid it no mind pulling me back up. He rushed around grabbing a space suit and oxygen tank and threw them into the escape pod. I wanted to say something but suddenly the pod door slid shut I was at a loss for words. What's my father doing? My heart beat frantically as I rushed over to the thick glassed window where my father still stood looking paranoid.
"Dad, dad speak to me what's going on!" I cried hitting the glass that did little force to break it. He stared at me with a pained look and I could make out a deep sigh, he then placed his hand against the glass. His dark palm was a startling difference from my mocha shade. "Put that on just like how I taught you, Roy. Don't miss a single step. Hurry now, I'll give you thirty seconds!"
I bit my lip knowing I couldn't argue, all the while rushing to dress in the suit, I had the look of being tortured. "Helmet on too," he reminded scornfully. But I didn't want to yet, not until I heard what the hell is happening.
"Tell me first and then I'll do it!"
Dad angrily hit the door making a thunk sound against the blaring alarms. "Dammit, Roy just do what I say!" Then he rubbed his eyes harshly with index and thumb and shook his head, "they've found my work and are after me, I can't let them get you! Don't worry I'll come to get you I promise, just give me a little bit of time." And with that, he smiled but it never reached his eyes. With weary eyes, I reluctantly placed the space helmet on my head though still not understanding my father's explanation at all. Abruptly a loose feeling came over me and that's when I realized my father had released the escape pod and the little shuttle was no longer attached to the main ship. At that moment I felt like I lost connection with something, maybe it was my father, or the company of a living warmth, or perhaps that link to Earth.
When the pod distanced itself from the ship my father's figure was seen fighting off people. My breathing froze as I gaped at the scene of them reprimanding him like he was being arrested. The armed men were covered in black armor so I couldn't identify the inky specks of people, all I knew is they were hurting him. Without warning the pod flickered with red lights and white letters circled the craft like an advertisement.
[ Hit with an unknown object, oxygen is depleting ] Its robotic voice echoed. I noticed a hole had appeared in the pod and when I looked down I found a black object glowing red. It was in the shape of a bullet assumed to be from the guns the black-clothed people wore. I recognized it, it was a bomb. With instinct taking over and high off adrenaline I kicked it to the farthest corner and ducked into a huddled position, protecting my head. My eyes were closed shut when a smothering red bang forced me back and the pod exploded open sending me tumbling out in the darkness of space. Luckily my suit was active and I could still breathe and feel warm. But my feet weren't connected to the ground and I flouted.
I looked towards where my dad should have been but I couldn't see him, the blast had sent me too far around the spaceship, and couldn't see that part of it. Plus I was being pushed away at a rapid pace and the ship started to get smaller and smaller in my vision.
I was in shock. I could barely breathe. I was terrified. I didn't know which to dissect first, my ultimate upcoming death, my dad's situation, or his words of explanation he had said vaguely.
There was a lump in my throat and I closed my eyes sternly, this is just a dream, a dream, this ain't happening. Instead of assuring myself it only made me feel more pathetic and I ended up balling my eyes out. reasoning with my predicament wasn't optional and in almost half an hour my stressed brain had repeatedly gone over the words of reassurance from my father, which was said so convincingly that I didn't question his expertise further. It was his words of hope. 'Don't worry I'll come to get you I promise,' he had said.
Even if I knew that he couldn't come to get me now. I was lost in space and he was attacked by some unknown people who clearly had a bone to pick with me and him. What about mom? Oh god, I couldn't even continue the thought before another layer of tears stained my cheeks. Would my sweet South Korean mom be okay? Would she be attacked just like dad or will she learn of my death and father's capture before anything else? I didn't know what to think anymore.
It was dark and the sky of space that always made my eyes sparkle and want to reach towards it no longer held the same comfort. It was choking me, I was scared. Even though the suit was warm I felt cold.
Seconds felt like hours and before long I drifted to sleep unwillingly. I had awakened by the familiar robotic voice but it appeared to never carry good news.
[ Spacesuit heating has five minutes remaining. Recommend charging. ]
This is it. I'm going to die soon. With half-lidded eyes, I felt the release of the heat and down with a rippling coldness. I could last 12 hours in the temperatures of space and the oxygen will last 24 hours. The heating turned off which means so far six hours have passed. 18 hours left of oxygen but I'll die before even hearing the robotic voice stating my oxygen level is low.
So there I remained in a negative bubble of muffledness. Sometimes I would look over at Earth which was very far away by now and just stare. I wasn't the only one to have died in space but I was probably the youngest at 18 and not even an astronaut. It was the year 3033 so with new advanced technology I was allowed to visit my dad in space and even made friends with some other kids who sometimes traveled in space to see their loved ones.
Will dad save me? Probably not. I closed my eyes again and before long drifted to sleep once more with nothing better to do.
When I woke up it was cold, really cold. Every time I breathed a fog of smoke lapped the glass of the helmet and I could see with the light that came from the suit was frost layering everything. When I blinked I could feel the strain of ice that painted over my skin and everything around it. I was freezing. My lips were so chapped I could taste blood when I parted them. I was quite literally becoming an icicle. After an unknown period of time, it was getting harder to stay awake, I knew I was dying. After I close my eyes this one last time, I would never wake up.
But I couldn't control my conciseness, when I was drifting between reason and just letting everything go, I was so unwilling. Just then my body tilted and I got a view of something terrifying. Space was always filled with wonder and surprise. But this... who would have expected. It was a black hole. Swirling matter around its ovalish body the massive circular constantly moved shape like a putty ball not staying circle for long. All kinds of colors surrounded it and with my muddled brain, I couldn't identify what state this black hole was.
Maybe...I'm hallucinating.
That was what I thought but a second later a sucking force pressured me forward and I found myself trying to scream but nothing came out, everything went black.
