Ayumi's trial focused on aiming several traps at Buern who is the centre of her trial. These trials were aimed at crushing Buern's spirit but also to teach her discernment.

Leadership:

Ayumi acts as a mentor to Buern since they share similar traits. She teaches her a leadership style based on fellowship. This leadership style teaches Buern to direct her comrades to take initiatives without necessarily imposing herself upon them as a leader. Ayumi furthermore teaches Buern that the greater part of leadership is in the 'state' of the leader and not necessarily the 'style'.

Knowledge:

Ayumi gradually mentors Buern into growing into her role as the inheritor of the Phoenix's Spirit revealing to Buern the fact that Souryu has a very specific battle style focused on crushing the spirits of his adversaries, the reason she had Buern undergo her trial. She also teaches Buern to counter Souryu's attacks through inspiration of her allies.
