Chapter 8 (Rewrite)

When we get home Alfred has food on the table and the bedroom door is closed which means the twins are asleep. Putting my lunch box into the kitchen and sneaking into my bedroom I check on them.

Seeing that Sage is awake and staring at nothing while cooing softly I pick her up and bring her out so she doesn't wake Levi. Sitting at the table with her on my lap I eat my dinner. Making small talk over dinner and just plan enjoying each others company.

Alfred made meatloaf with mash potatoes, steam carrots and corn with gravy over the whole lot. Usually I am not a fan of meatloaf but Alfred's food is divine and I feel jealous of Bruce being able to eat like this his whole life.

After dinner Levi wakes up and Tim goes to get him. I start breastfeeding both of them on the couch. Time looking up the abandoned warehouse cameras that we have set up to check if the coast is clear to Gate over.

While he is doing that I draw the Tron card for him and put them next to me on the couch.

"Are you sure?" He asks me as he picks up the suit, disc and baton.

"Yes, you may use it for however long you like Tim." I give him a description of what the baton can do and leave him with a warning. "I don't know how the suit will handle bullets so be careful. Make sure Alfred is on comms and cam."

"Of course. Have a good night Sammy."

"You too. Have fun with the bike." I cast Gate and watch as a portal like in portals appears showing the warehouse on the other side.

"I can't wait to try it." Tim says over his shoulder waving as he steps through the Gate.

Once he is though I close it. Feeling tired from the draw of magic I sink back deeper into the couch.

Hugging and spending time with the twins until they fall asleep I keep holding them. One laying on my chest and the other in my arms.

I open my system and draw the second and last luck potion card from my deck. Drinking it. I open the Gacha draws Immediately. I choose to roll the 2 D&D rolls, the 4 computer game rolls, 10 normal rolls, 10 DC rolls and 10 Marvel rolls. It cost my 130 GPs all together. Not a bad cost.

Looking at the Mana potion description it looks like it can replenish my magic reserves no matter what type of magic I have or use. Handy.

I Instantly draw the summon Direwolf card to add to my powers.

I read the description of the Amulet. It gives a 35% boost to speechcraft. From memory that was a skill that focused on persuasion and haggling. Will be useful when dealing with business and with Fury.

I have no idea who Samuel is as I never play FPS's. The card has a basic description about him. A retired, highly decorated Navy SEAL and former CIA paramilitary ops/clandestine officer. Makes sense for FPS. Is Clancy a writer in this universe? I'll have to check that later.

I instantly draw the heal and butterfly shield cards and add them to my powers.

The spy will hopefully be of use even if they were just for comedy in the movie they should still be able to do the job.

I look over the info for Lynn trying to remember who she is. I start laughing as I remember her from the old anime. I decided to assimilate her as I can't use her for anything as a person and being able to speak Japanese and to sing and play the piano might be useful later.

I look over the Beast Boy card. Animal shapeshifting and Enhanced senses. Weakness, green skin and hair and inability to speak the human language while in beast form. I draw the card and use the last remove the weakness card on it.

That stumps me a bit and I think about the best option. I want to assimilate this card so both weaknesses are bad for me but one stands out to be the worst option.

As far as I know about this world there is no Arctic Vibranium so keeping this for Tony or Shuri the play with later would be the best bet. Forge and Beetle should be left to be summoned for the taskforce and team. The pistol is just another weapon. The Armor can't be used until after I show it to Tony and the whole Iron Man 2 has passed.

The Alcohol will stay in the deck until I want to get Rogers or Barnes drunk but that is a few years away at least. Same with the suit and comic. The daggers are another thing not to touch. I don't want Wakanda's attention just yet.

All together it's not a bad haul. I start scanning through my deck to find all the people I have so far. Linna Yamazaki, Yor Forger, Mr and Mrs Smith, Katniss Everdeen, Samuel Leo Fisher, Gregorio and Ingrid Cortez and Forge.

I am very hesitant to assimilate any more people. I don't want to change too much from who I am right now. Even if I was offered Superman or Batman I don't think I would take it. There is that saying

"Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Blah blah I don't remember the rest of the quote and can't be bothered to look it up.

I was never one who wanted to be all powerful. I preferred to play healers and druids in most games. Of course most RPGs are hack and slash but games like in My Time At Portia where you get to build things and complete silly missions were more fun for me in the long run.

Until now I hadn't noticed but I was doing the same thing here subconsciously. Gathering allies for the future, giving myself the skills and abilities of a support character. These are things I would have done in games.

Standing up with the twins I take them to our room to put them in their bassinets. Looking at the babies sleeping away I sit on the bed watching them thinking about the future.

I need to save Shield from itself. Fury and Shield are needed to deal with governments around the world. But it will have to change from what it is. I can't have a cult still living in the shadows. I could use the group I'm putting together but it would take too long in the long run. My group will need to be for use by the Avengers and myself.

Tony needs to go through his redemption arc but I plan on intervening before he gets too sick from palladium poisoning so that the personality evaluation that Nat does doesn't happen. If I can change the opinion the group has of Tony from the beginning then maybe some of the actions of the future will change.

Rogers could be dug up and defrosted by my team instead if I can get it up and running before Shield finds him. Adding him to my team before the Avenger might work if I have an in with Fury.

Thor needs to happen that way it does in the movies. If I interfere too much then I don't know who, when or where the invasion will happen. I could show up to help out Phil and meet Thor and Barton then. I might have to leave Rogers alone so that the plot points don't change too much. Like the Thor movie. A slight ache begins at my temple.

Nat and Barton will have to be left alone for the same reasons.

The thoughts go around and around in my head along the same train. I can feel a Migraine starting to form. Closing the curtains and sitting on the bed again I fish out some pain meds and take them dry before laying on the bed with a pillow over my eyes to get rid of any light.

I close my eyes and let the day disappear.
