Starred Up

Deen, a seven year old boy, arrives in Korea with his mother Mia. With a strong determination to raise her son properly, Mia ensures Deen lacks no love in his life. In her spare time, Mia is a huge fangirl of the Korean boy group, TNT. But in an unexpected twist of fate, the mother-son duo end up being the neighbors of D3, another legendary boy group, which happens to be TNT's biggest rival. D3 consists of the short tempered Taewon, gentle Joon Jae and the goofy Jan. On top of that, Mia is hired as the personal designer for TNT, which consists of the charismatic leader Soo-Yon and the playboy maknae Cheng. Despite the rocky start, Mia and her son grow closer to all the members of both the groups. With time, the members realize they have fallen in love with the same woman, disrupting each group's dynamics. Furthermore, the origins of the hostility between the two groups resurface, making everyone involved question the decision they made a decade ago. As secrets unfold, the members vie for Mia's affections, Deen observes that she has eyes only for one of them. But which one of them will she choose? Cheng-Her Punches are Hard

'Are you an idiot?' she asked. 'Do you really think he will like it if you hide this from him?'

I squeezed her arm harder. 'Promise me you won't tell,' I repeated.

'First of all, Cheng,' Mia said calmly. 'Let go of my hand. We may be friends but I do not like it if someone grabs me like this.'

I blinked at her. My actions dawned upon me. I quickly let go of her.

'I'm sorry,' I said. 'I didn't realize-'

'No, you knew what you were doing,' Mia shot back. 'You wanted to vent out your frustration on someone. But this is not the right way to deal with any situation.'

I was speechless. How to reply to that? Deep down, I knew I really was taking out anger on her.

'I know you don't like D3,' Mia pressed. 'But if you don't tell Soo-Yon sshi about this and if he finds out through someone else, he'll be more hurt.'

I looked down, feeling like a child who was caught doing something bad. 'Why do you care about us so much?' I asked quietly.

Mia gently touched my cheek and smiled. 'What to do?' she asked. 'I'm a fan after all.'

She lightly patted my cheek and walked out of the lift. I stood in a daze, touching my cheek. For the first time in years, I felt my heart flutter at someone's touch.

'No,' I said resolutely. I pounded lightly on my chest. 'I can't have those feelings. Not again.'

'Where were you?' Soo-Yon hyung demanded as I appeared in front of him. We were at the hotel's entrance. It was break time and the crew was busy having their lunch.

'Hyung,' I started. 'I need to tell you something.'

'Did something happen?' Soo-Yon hyung said, feeling concerned.

I took a deep breath and narrated the whole incident. Soo-Yon hyung listened to me patiently, not making any comment. When I finished, he gave me a small smile.

'You're smiling?' I asked, astonished.

'While I don't appreciate the fact that you got into a fist fight with Taewon,' Soo-Yon hyung said. 'I'm still proud of the fact that you told me the truth.'

He ruffled my hair. 'My maknae is growing up!' he teased.

I felt relieved. Mia was right. Telling the truth was the better option.

'I'll tell Manager Ahn to get rid of the security footage on that floor,' Soo-Yon continued. 'He'll take care of it.'

'Alright,' I said in relief. God forbid if that video footage falls in the wrong hands. I looked around.

'Where's Mia?' I asked. 'She was supposed to arrive before me.'

'I haven't seen her,' Soo-Yon hyung said. 'I thought she was with you.'

'Let's go find her,' I suggested. Hyung nodded and we set off, looking for her. We headed towards the car park when we saw her, a few feet away, standing next to a pole. She was talking on the phone.

'There she is,' I pointed out to Soo-Yon hyung.

'Let's approach her,' Soo-Yon hyung said. 'Break time is almost over anyway.'

We walked towards her direction.

'You sure everything is fine?' she was asking someone over the phone. She was so absorbed in the phone call, that she did not notice us.

'Boo!' I jumped out. Startled out of her mind, Mia screamed and dropped the phone.

'Hello? Hello?' a male voice was coming out from the other end of the phone. Both Soo-Yon hyung and I looked at each other. Who was she talking to?

I was about to pick up the phone but Mia beat me to it. She snatched it off the ground.

'You almost scared me to death Cheng!' she exclaimed angrily. 'I'll talk to you later,' she added over the phone and hung up.

'Who were you talking to?' I asked suspiciously.

'I was talking to Deen's teacher,' she gritted. 'He's been facing some trouble at school.'

'Is he alright,' Soo-Yon hyung asked, his voice full of concern.

'Yeah, he's fine,' Mia assured him. 'Nothing I can't handle. Anyways, what was that for?'

She crossed her arms and glared at me.

'I was just playing a prank,' I laughed. 'Don't get so serious!'

She hit my arm again.

'Ow!' I cried out in pain. Her punches were really hard.

'Serves you right,' she stuck out her tongue at me and ran off.

'For a girl, she really knows how to throw punches,' I remarked.

'Good,' Soo-Yon hyung said. 'At least she can handle playboys like you.'

He snickered at my dumbfounded expression and followed Mia towards the shooting site.
