Star Wars: Legacy of the Force.

The overthrow of the Republic is nearly complete. The Separist forces have been smashed, the Jedi Council nearly decimated, and the rest of the Order all but destroyed. Now absolute power rests in the iron fist of Darth Sidious the cunning Sith Lord better known as the former Senator, now Emperor, Palpatine. But more remains to be done. Pockets of Resistance in the galaxy must be defeated and missing Jedi accounted for... and dealt with. These crucial tasks fall to the Emperor's ruthless enforcer Kylo Ren. In turn, the Knight of Ren has groomed a lethal new First Order entrusted with a top secret mission to comb the galaxy and dispatch the last of their Master's enemies, thereby punctuating the dark side's victory with the Jedi's doom.

(Chapter forty four.)

Fending off another attack, Sara stepped backwards to consider her next move. In general, normal flights didn't have this kind of intermission in them. But when given the chance, Sara would try to strategize and scrutinize her opponent.

Why did you want that pilot to live? Kylo Ren asked her.

Sara stole a glance at her partner, still prowling around him in a wonky semi- circle, trying to devise the best end- all attack for the duel. His question was distracting, not because it had been bothering her before then, but because she hadn't even thought about it. Why did I spare him?

But I don't know, wasn't a reassuring answer, so Sara chose to deflect it.

That wasn't what I asked, Kylo Ren pressured her.

He gave us the information we needed. Why kill him? Sara finally responded. If I wanted him to live, I wouldn't have tried to bring his jet down. But there wasn't a good reason to kill him. Said Sara.

He fights for the enemy, Kylo Ren pointed out. If the situation was reversed, he wouldn't have shown you any mercy, he would have killed you. Replied Kylo Ren.

He would have tried. And he would have failed, Sara corrected steadily. And without warning, Sara lunged. The struggle was brief- Kylo Ren deflected her first swing's, and fell victim to a clean sweep of the legs. Sara lowered her two black lightsabers. See? She said.

Palms pressed to the floor, he propped himself up. So I guess, when we were interrogating him, Kylo Ren began, clearly not finished with the topic yet. You lowering your hand- that was just because you were worried he would die before he could answer? Asked Kylo Ren.

Yes. Maybe. At least, partially. Probably. Said Sara. It was frightening, how well Kylo Ren saw through her, even after all these years of building a facade around herself. Especially now that Sara struggled to understand him.

Exactly, Sara answered, not entirely sure if it was a lie or not. The conversation had pretty much rendered Sara unable to focus on anything other than her own highly questionable morals. Sparring more would prove pointless if Sara couldn't focus. Sara helped Kylo Ren up, and then replaced her two black lightsabers, turning to leave. Kylo Ren didn't say anything, but Sara could feel his gaze burning through the back of her head as she left.
