Spider-X Chapter 5

Opening Scene Peter is sleeping in his new room in the X-Mansion the curtains to the window are cracked and the early morning sunlight can be seen creeping in the room. All of a sudden there is a loud knock on the door. "Peter time to get up you have to be evaluated today," said Kitty.

"Does it have to be so early" I responded

"Yep," said Kitty with all the energy of a morning person. I got up brushed my teeth and put on the newly cleaned uniform that I noticed had a hole in the back leg. As soon as I opened my bedroom door Kitty quickly grabbed and practically dragged me to a big high tech room with all the X-Men waiting.

"What is this place and why wasn't it on the tour," I asked?

"This is the danger room it's a place where we test abilities and train for dangerous situations we might face" Said Xavier.

"Ready to show us what you got kid," Logan said with mild excitement

"Do you want me to spare with one of you?" I asked still looking around the room?

"Oh, no The room provides all sorts of enemies and combat scenarios for you to go through" Said Dr. McCoy typing on a computer embedded in the nearby wall. "Just wait for there and the test will begin shortly" after that all the X-Men left me alone in an empty room I could see them behind the two-way mirror on the far off wall when suddenly a robot sprung up from the ground with saws for hands. Acting on instinct I immediately dodged out of the way. The kept swinging till I managed to get in close and punched its head off.

"Was that expensive cause I can't pay for it?" I asked

"No need to worry about that and the test is still going on" Said Xavier. Just then ten more robots came from the ground all with different weapons from swords to saws and one even had a flamethrower. They ganged up on me, but I managed to web swing away before the got to close. Seeing the flamethrower eyeing its sights on me I managed to web its arm and direct it at the other bots. These ones seemed smarter than the first one I fought because five managed to tuck and roll out of the way. I rip off flamethrowers arm and kick the bot into the wall a rush the remaining five. I web the face of the closest slide between its legs tripping it before putting my fist through the one right behind it. I web line the third and wrecking ball swing it around destroying the other two before I smash its body on the last robot on the ground trying to get webbing off its face. "Excellent Peter are you feeling tired at all after that" asked Xavier?

"No" I responded

"Good," said Xavier just then the environment changed a looked like a jungle somewhere I've only ever read about. Just as I was about to ask how this happened my spider-sense went off. I saw a man, I didn't recognize, dressed like a soldier holding a gun about to fire I instantly webbed and blocked the barrel before he could fire (This is not the first time I've been held at gunpoint). The soldier looked at his gun and I ran towards him and kneed him in the face and broke his gun. My spider-sense went off aging and I jumped into trees dodging bullet fire. As soon as I got higher ground I noticed all the solider coming for me there was about fifteen in total seven from the same direction as the first three to the right and five behind. They saw me climb up so they aimed their sights and I immediately jumped down facing them head-on. I took out the five behind me first web lining the ground and landing on three of them and punching the other two. I climbed the trees to hide me from their line of sight as the remaining soldiers fired at me. I used my web and pulled up a few in the trees with me leaving them conscious but tied up. Just as the remaining started to group together is when I made my move on the last of them. I managed to get really close before they could react and I beat my way through them. I kicked the first guy in the face before he knew what was coming and used his gun as a blunt instrument on the next guy breaking it before I web cocooned the last three. "Excellent work Peter your just as good if not better than I imagined," said Xavier with admiration just then the forest scene disappeared and I was once again in a metal room and could see the X-Men walking towards me. Dr. McCoy walked toward the computer in the wall from before and said: "It's as we guessed he's alpha level".

"What does that mean," I asked, "and you got to tell me how the room works is it hard light constructs it was way too real to be just holograms".

"All mutants have amazing abilities but some have more potential or greater mastery of their abilities than others" Dr. McCoy explained. "As such all mutants are ranked from Gamma the lowest tier to Beta slightly higher with better control to Alpha which is serious threats in combat to Omega level mutants who have the ability to fight whole armies." Dr. McCoy continued "This program was designed to gauge where you fall in that spectrum".

"Oh so that's why Jean activates my spider-sense every time I'm around her," I said

"Jean's mere presence activates your danger sense fascinating," Dr. McCoy said with glee.

"Now that you understand you can stop being such a spaz every time I'm around" Said Jean mockingly.

"Does your Spider-sense do this to anyone else?" asked Xavier

"No Jean's the only person" I responded

"Interesting considering we have other omega level mutants around," said Dr. McCoy.

"Who else is omega level," I said

"Well the professor is one and theirs also Storm but she's in Africa right now," Kitty said

"Why is she in Africa," I asked

"She worked out a similar deal with me as you did," said Xavier "She works with the X-Men but wanted to be able to travel a help those in third world countries like the one she grew up in".

"She's awesome she's in Sudan right now helping with their civil disobedience protest," Kitty said with utter Joy. As the conversation continued I remembered I have work today.

"Crap what time is it," I asked

"It's just past 10," said Xavier

"I still got time but I gotta go," I said as I ran out of the room I quickly got changed and ran over to the Daily Bugle. Jonah noticed me as soon as I walked in and said: "Parker on time for once". I just nodded and got to work publishing stories on the website since I could do this job with my eyes closed I just thought about the X-men and how it seemed like they might not be so bad especially this Storm woman who apparently fights oppressive governments on the regular. While I still think we should always look out for the little guy the change that could be made for the common man by the X-Men seems worthwhile.
