New Beginnings

  KIMBERLY ANDERSONS POV

I walked into the hall and saw all these different students with different faces. It didn't seem like they paid much attention to me, but that's okay. I'm just a regular college girl at Evergreen, not part of the popular crowd. Suddenly, I heard my name being called out. I turned around and saw Carolyn trying to escape the crowd of students. On reaching she gave me a warm hug, and I hugged her back. Carolyn is a girl I met on my first day here, and she's very popular and really nice.

I smiled , "Cary."

"How are you?" she asked in her charming British accent, making me smile.

"I'm good, and you?" I replied with a smile.

"I'm fine too! I looked everywhere for you yesterday, Kimberly. You were supposed to come with me to the party last night."

"I'm really sorry, I completely forgot... I was so tired and

needed some rest. Plus, you know I'm still new here," I said with a slight pout.

Cary gave me a frown and glanced around, as if she was assessing the situation. Then, she turned her head towards me and flashed a smile, revealing her stunning pearly white teeth.

"It's alright. But you know, going out could help you make new friends... Come on, let's head to the lecture hall," she said, taking my hands in hers. Cary and I have the same lecture time and lectures.

After arriving home late from college, I plopped down on my bed without even changing my clothes. It was already 5pm, and I was feeling so stressed out. Too tired to move, I grabbed my phone from my backpack and ordered a pizza. I just laid there, feeling lazy and exhausted waiting for the pizza to arrive.

Then, I received a notification from Pinterest about the best movies featuring werewolves and vampires. I let out a sigh, thinking to myself that none of that stuff actually exists. It's just a world filled with humans, and honestly, I prefer it that way.

After checking and reading my email, I threw on a black oversized tee and hopped onto my bed. I grabbed the TV remote and was just about to start watching something on Netflix while waiting for the pizza I ordered, like, ages ago.

Suddenly, I heard the doorbell ring, and without wasting a second, I jumped up and raced down the stairs to the front door. But, the bell rang again!

"I'm coming, just hold on a sec!" I replied, unlocking the door and pulling it open.

"Hey," a guy dressed all in black greeted me. I couldn't help but notice, he was quite good-looking.

"Hi..." I managed to say, almost whispering and out of breath. Surprisingly, he heard me loud and clear, which made me wonder how. I found myself staring at his face for what felt like forever, while he simply smiled back at me.

"You ordered pizza Si? Miss Kimberly?" He said with an Italian accent ..... then it kicked right in

"Uhm... Yes?" He smiled perfectly and handed me the pizza. I bit my lip because of how stupid I must've looked.

I signed somewhere. I paid when I ordered online... That's how it works

He smiled once again and said,

"Thanks for ordering at Little Caesars," he said. I returned the smile as he turned around. I closed the door and took a deep breath, feeling safe and secure in my own little world.

After devouring the delicious pepperoni pizza, I flopped down on my bed, resting my face against the soft sheets. Slowly, I drifted off to a distant world, escaping from reality for a while.

"Kimberly? Darling, I'm home!" I heard my mom's voice echoing from downstairs, but I stayed where I was.

After a few minutes, she opened the door and plopped down on my bed. "Baby, I'm home," she said with a tired smile.

"How was work?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.

"Boring!" she replied, giving her a sympathetic look. I stared back at her, and whispered sorry.

"How was college?" she asked in return.

"Stressful but okay," I winced as I answered.

"Are you hungry?" she asked, and just then, my stomach growled. Mom chuckled.

"Come on, get ready. We're going out for dinner," she said with a smile, leaving the room. I smiled back and followed her instructions.

With a tired sigh, I reluctantly got up from my cozy bed. As much as I wanted to just stay in and relax, my grumbling tummy reminded me that it needed some fuel.

Dragging my feet to the bathroom, I quickly washed up and wrapped myself in a cozy gray towel. After applying some body lotion, I stood in front of my closet, contemplating what to wear for dinner tonight. I pulled out different outfits, trying them on in front of the mirror, carefully examining how they looked on me.

"Fuck this!" I exclaimed in frustration. I just couldn't find the right dress. Pants or skirts weren't really appealing to me at the moment. After staring at my clothes for a while, I finally settled on a black leather long-sleeve dress with beautiful golden embroidered designs on the front. I slipped it on, and it fell just above my knee. I brushed through my hair and tied it back in a loose ponytail, securing it with a gold hairpin. I added a pair of black stud earrings and slipped on my black sandals. Finally, I applied some lip gloss to complete the look.

I checked myself out in the full-length mirror, then headed downstairs to the parlor. There, I found Mom sitting on the couch, busy typing away on her laptop. I couldn't help but roll my eyes. Does she ever take a break? Since Dad passed away, it's always been her and her work.

As if sensing my presence, Mom stood up and greeted me with a beautiful smile.

"You look pretty good," she said. I couldn't deny that she looked great herself.

"Thanks, Mum. I'm starving, let's go!" I exclaimed eagerly.

"Sure thing, sweetie," she replied, rushing to the front door. She was wearing a stylish red jumpsuit. I followed her outside, locked the house, and slipped the key into Mom's white purse.

We hopped into her sleek black Range Rover and started driving. I realized I had left my phone and purse at home, but I was too lazy to go back and get them.

We drove in comfortable silence, lost in our own thoughts. My mind wandered to Jim, my ex-boyfriend…

I miss him so much... not that I'm gonna admit it to him though. He cheated, I sighed, feeling a mix of emotions.

After driving for a while, Mom finally said, "We're here, pumpkin." I opened my eyes and saw a restaurant with the bold sign "Araxi Restaurant." It looked fancy and exclusive, like it would take months to book a table.

"Mum?" I questioned.

"Hmm?" she responded. "Come on now, you said you were hungry just a few minutes ago." I gave her a strange smile and stepped out of the car, with her following suit.

We entered the restaurant, and a girl around my age greeted Mom. She looked young and beautiful. Mom showed her a card, and the girl directed us to a table at the back near the window. We sat down, and the girl left.

Mom smiled at me, and I weakly smiled back.
