Yawning, I stretched out of bed. Wiping the sleep from my eyes, I saw something, no, someone standing in front of me. I blinked twice to make sure I wasn't dreaming.
"Hey, you okay?" He asked me.
His voice took me by surprise, and I jumped back in my bed. It was only then I realized the boy at the end of my bed was real!
"W-who are you? What are you doing here? Where did you come from?" I spoke in shock.
He tilted his head a bit before speaking. "Didn't they tell you?" He questioned.
They? There's a they?! I had no idea what was happening! First a boy appears out of nowhere, and now there's more? What's going on!?
He looked a bit worried, maybe it's because of the fear, showing on my face.
"I'm guessing they didn't tell you then.....I'll have to explain."
I nodded along, hoping for all my questions to be answered.
"Well, I'll start from the beginning then. I'm Jack, nice to meet ya! I'm going to be protecting you from here on out, as it is my sworn duty to keep you safe! I was assigned to you and only you, so I hope we get along."
He reached out his hand, hesitantly I reached back and we shook on it. Smiling big, he backed off the sheets and helped me off my bed.
When I stood up I noticed he was a bit shorter than me, yet looks around my age. He had dark blue hair, almost black but not quite. It was short, and he was wearing some clothes I've never seen before. He almost seemed out of this world in a way, yet he looked like a normal human boy.
After that, I heard my mom coming up the stairs, most likely to tell me to come to breakfast. I knew my mom would flip if she saw a boy in my room, so I quickly told Jack to hide. He just chuckled and sat down on my bed.
What was his deal? Does he even know what's going on?
After that, I tugged him off of my bed and shoved him in my closet. As soon as I shut the door, my mom barged into the room.
"Hey, mom!" I frantically scrambled to catch my footing.
"Hi sweetheart, what are you doing?" She asked curiously.
"I was just......getting dressed?"
"Oh really?" She gave a look of suspicion before walking up to my closet.
"Yep! Just getting ready." I gave a nervous chuckle.
"Mind if I help?"
"No, I got it!"
"Come on, I just want to help." After that, she opened the door, revealing the boy from earlier. He stood there, waving to me, right in front of my mom! My mom looked frozen for a few seconds before, she pulled out a red dress.
"Try this on, I think you'll look cute in it."
"Okay." I said, in fear of how much trouble I'm in. I mean she looked directly at him, and said nothing!
"Hurry up too, I made you breakfast today."
"Okay." She then left down the stairs closing the door behind her.
"Are you okay? You seem scared again." Jack walked up to me, worry overwhelming him once more.
"What were you doing? Didn't she see you? Weren't you worried?" I asked him.
"Did they not tell you that either?" Quickly showing the confusion on my face, he followed up with,
"I'll update you then. I have the ability to allow who I want to see me, well except you. You will always be able to see me, but your mom can't unless I let her."
I gave a sigh of relief.
"You could have told me that before." I wined.
"I thought you knew already!" He argued back.
"Oh, whatever..." I gave another sigh and began to shove Jack into the closet again.
"Why are you pushing me back in your closet again?" He complained.
"My mom wants me to wear a dress, and that means I need to change my clothes." His face turns red, and he responds
"O-oh right! Sorry, just-just let me know when your d-done, okay?" He studdered.
"I will!" I quickly answered. After getting into the dress, I told Jack I was all set, and I walked downstairs.
"Thanks for the food mom!" I shouted from the dining room, before cleaning up my plate.
"Sure thing sweetheart!"
Jumping out my back door, it revealed a large backyard, with a swimming pool. Hearing Jack's footsteps behind me, I turned around to face him.
"Oh, Jack! I'm having some of my friends over, so don't freak out if you see some strangers come over, okay?" I gave him a soft smile, and he practically became a statue, his cheeks turning a light shade of pink.
A knock on the door quickly interrupted the moment, and I went to go answer it. It was my neighbor, Hannah.
"Oh, hey Hannah, come in." We both walked to my backyard when Hannah had an urgent look on her face.
"Can I ask you something?"
"What is it?"
"I woke up and there was this girl in my room. I freaked out, and I told her that I didn't need protection, then I tried to kick her out of my house, but she's too quick. It's as if she was made just to avoid me somehow!"
"Wait, you woke up with someone in your room too?"
"Who was in your room!? I'll beat them if they try to hurt you!"
"Hannah, I have enough protection already. I'm okay."
"No, your not! Where are they?" I glanced at Jack in relief; that Hannah can't see him.
"Hannah, calm down. He said he was here to protect me, so it's okay."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, now if you calm down, maybe I'll show him to you."
"Okay.."
"What about the girl you saw, can you show her to me?"
"Huh? Can't you see her?" The girl revealed herself, showing her short blond hair, that barely reached below her ears.
"Howdy! What's up girly?" She said happily.
She was so full of energy, she could even outlast Hannah, and Hannah is always bouncing off the walls. No wonder she got a buddy like this, she probably needs someone who can keep up with her.
"Oh! Um..hi?"
"The name's Carrie!"
"I'm Delilah.." Jack then stood behind me, before revealing himself to Hannah.
"Uhhh, Hi." Jack awkwardly said. Hannah began to giggle to herself until she was interrupted by Carrie.
"Why you gigglin'?"
"None of your business." After that, they get stuck in a long argument. While Jack and I just sighed at them. We both knew it was going to be a long day.....
