Some Fine Day

This is the story of how Emery Walters became whom he was supposed to be.<br><br>I knew I was male at an early age, something that was a societal no-no in the 1950s and still is in parts of the country today. Burying my male identity, I strove to be the best woman possible. But after raising my four wonderful children from two debilitating marriages, I found myself alone and nearly penniless. That was when Emery asserted his identity.<br><br>Life became better with the shift from female to male, a third marriage, and a wife who, herself, transitioned from male to female.

Chapter 34

Feb 4: Archie and I went up to Granada Park with pop, candy, boat, book, kite and care bears. I read, and he got soaked playing. He even slid down the top part of the spillway. He loved it. At least he didn’t break his head open. Not enough wind for the kite. The care bears looked dead when they floated face down in the pond.

Feb 17: Archie’s class went to the symphony. I don’t know what they heard because he claims he and Nathan fell asleep with their heads together “and then the big boom in the middle woke them up”. Then he said he always argues with me because he never gets his way.

Feb 21: Archie had lunch at Valerie’s, boy there’s a family with problems too. Now he has Jared over to spend the night. So far, they’ve done puzzles, used the Lego, and now they’re coloring. It’s all so very peaceful with the radio on softly in the background. He’s telling Jared, “I know I’m going to be an artist when I grow up.”
