Ch.7 Secrets.

LORRAINE POV

After saying goodnight to Daniel and going to her room, Lorraine was lying in bed unable to sleep. She was worried for her son.

'I have to talk to him, I can't protect him forever and if she's right I have to tell him, no more secrets between us, I have to raise him well.'

Her son was different. She knew he could be different from other because of his father. That is why she moved back to her parents away from everyone. Has Daniel grew up she could see he was especial like his father, he matured faster than other kids, both fiscally and mentally. He is smarter than any kid close to his age is and stronger too, she has never seen he get hurt or bleed.

Lorraine was afraid, she kept secrets from her son and now she's confronted with reality, she cannot keep her son in the dark anymore, she has to tell him who his father is and what it entails for Daniel and his future.

'I hope I made the right choice by trusting you Peggy.'

*Flash back*

I was doing my job at the sheriff's department when the phone rang, I answered normally like always.

"Beaumont sheriff's department this is Lorraine what can I do for you?"

"Hello Lorraine, this is Margaret Elizabeth Carter, do you remember me?"

I froze right there, I did not know what to say or do. Do I run? Take Daniel with me and leave everything behind. No if the SSR found me they already have me, I only have one choice.

"I take it by your silence that you do remember, I'll make it easy on you, get out the department and walk down the street a car will pick you up, then we can talk."

She hung up the phone.

I get up and knock on my father's office, I'll make some excuse so I can have some time, I fell like this will be a long talk.

"Dad I have to go, I forgot I promise to help a friend."

"Ok honey, you can go early, do you need me to take you there?"

"No, I'll walk, it's just around the corner, love you."

I exit the station and start to walk down the street until a black car pulls over and the driver told me to get in the back seat, when I'm inside he hands me a bag.

"Please put it on your head, I'll inform you when you can take it off."

'Something's never change.'

After I put the bag in my head we drive for a little while, I then hear a garage door opening and I assume we enter whatever black site operation HQ they have in the city. The agent tells me to keep the bag on my head. He opens the door and takes me.

When we arrive he let go of me, and finally I can take the bag off my head and see where I am. A living room, I look around and it's a common living room from an ordinary American house, but it doesn't seem like anyone lives here.

Then I hear the sound of high heels coming from the kitchen and a woman in a suit appears.

"Well I'm glad you finally join me, you can leave now agent I want to be alone with our guest."

The agent salutes the woman and leaves to the garage, now I'm alone with her and she doesn't say anything more, she just stands there looking at me.

I don't know if it's a scare tactic but I won't fall for it, I have little time before I have to get back to my family and I don't want to waste any in mind game.

"Look I don't know what you want Peggy but--"

"How is your son?"

…No, she can't know, please don't.

"I- he… what does this have to do with him?"

"I'm just having a conversation, you know we're old colleagues and you left the SSR so suddenly I couldn't even say goodbye, you even moved back to your parents here to Beaumont and didn't tell anyone."

Peggy smiles and moves closer to Lorraine.

"It's almost like you ran away."

Feeling that Peggy is losing patient and she does not have much time until this moves in a more unpleasant situation Lorraine re-thinks her options.

"I didn't do anything wrong, I just quit and wanted to be with my family."

'She is fishing for confirmation, she probably already know but what is her endgame?'

"Stop lying, you didn't just decided to destroy your career so you could become a secretary in a sheriff department. 8 months after you left you had your son."

Peggy takes a file and hands to me.

"This is everything I could find on him, and I can't find a single medical record, you delivered him at home with the help of a nurse and that's where it ends, no blood work, no flu shots nothing. He is big for his age and smart his teacher had nothing but praise for him in her report, in fact she said and I quote 'Daniel is a smart and mature child. I recommend he be moved up a grade so we can better nurture him.'"

Peggy looks me in the eye, I can't tell what she is thinking but, she takes a breath and finally asks what I was afraid, she knows.

"Who is Daniel's father?"

My eyes start to moist, I can't help but feel afraid of what happens if I say it out loud, I don't want Daniel taken from me.

"Please don't do this. I just want to be left alone, please don't…"

She just got her confirmation, I can she as she frowns. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, when she opens her eyes and looks at me I can see she has come to a decision.

"So it's true, Steve had a son with you."

I cry and grab her hand while begging her not to take him away, this was what I away feared people finding out who his father was and taking him to a lab to see if he was different, if they could make super soldiers from his blood.

"Please don't take him away from me."

"I won't take him from you. I'll help you keep him safe."

I calmed down a little after hearing that, she is here to help me. I thought she would be on a mission from the SSR to take him to a lab or something.

"Look Lorraine I don't know you very well, but I knew Steve and I won't let nothing happen with his son."

That is when I see in her eyes, determination and something else I did not known, but I feel I can trust her.

"What about the SSR or the military wont they have an interest in him."

"Well the SSR is doesn't exist anymore it was absorbed into the Strategic Homeland, Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division after its founding."

"What does that mean for us then?"

"It means I have more power to help you, but it will take time, nobody knows I'm here so I can cover for you and your son. I can protect both of you."

"Why are you doing this? Please don't get this the wrong way, I appreciate what you are doing but what do you get in return?"

At that question, Peggy smiles for real.

"I loved Steve and he has a son that needs my help, if I don't help and something happens to him or you it would be my fault."

We share a moment of silence, we both loved the same man and he is gone, but he left us something and that is Daniel.

"Now I have to go, I'll be in contact soon but in the meanwhile you need to move, it's easier to protect you this way."

"Move where?"

"Here I bought this house and prepared it for you, there is a bunker down stairs, I also bought both your neighbors houses and I'll put agents I can trust in both of them. In the meanwhile be careful I found you some else could too."

I nodded and took the keys of the house and bunker from her, looks like I'll need a gun, I won't let anyone take my son.
