One and half years passed by,
Now that I am two years old, I can walk and speak. I was sitting on a chair with a book on my lap. In this past year, I learned a lot about this new world.
Like there was a monarchical system, not a democratic one, in this world.
This world had three major kingdoms: Arcelia, Cyaneous, and Arcane. Arcelia and Cyaneous are both human kingdoms ruled by human kings, and Arcane is a demon kingdom ruled by a demon king.
The Arcelia Kingdom was in the center of the continent. It controlled most of the continent. I also live in the Arcelia Kingdom. The Cyaneous Kingdom was born from the alliance of dwarves and small human kingdoms who joined forces to fight against the Arcelia Kingdom's land and power expansion. A human king currently rules the Cyaneous kingdom. Finally, there is the Arcane Kingdom, ruled by demons. Strangely, they have been quiet for many years.
There were also Elves and Demi-humans living on Arcelia's outskirts. To conceal their presence, they built Magic barriers, preventing humans from finding them.
The Arcelia and Cyaneous kingdoms were constantly at odds with each other. The last war was fought twenty years ago, and Arcelia came victorious in the war.
So far, this is everything I know about the world.
I closed the book.
"Today is the day."
Last month, Grandma promised me that she would teach me more about magic. I only understand the theory, but I'm unsure how it works. This is why I asked grandma to teach me.
I looked down from the chair,
'Why is this chair so high?'
Whenever I stepped down from the chair, there was always the fear of falling.
"Nothing will happen. Nothing will happen."
I started chanting as I slowly got down from the chair.
'Phew, finally on the ground.' I wiped the sweat off my head.
As I got down from the chair, I began to walk towards grandma's room.
As soon as I entered her room, I shouted,
"Grandma, today is the promised day."
"I know. Come here." She smiled, putting down the book she was reading.
Without saying a word, I got close to her. She picked me up and placed me on her lap when I was near her.
"Do you want to know about magic?" She asked.
"Yup," I nodded.
"I don't know if you will be able to understand all the things that I will teach you today."
"You don't need to worry about that, grandma," I said.
"If you say so," She sighs.
I don't know why, but a sudden smile appeared on her face.
"Fine, I will teach you about magic but first, tell me how much you know about magic? I know you're reading books about magic."
"Fine by me." As I said, I began to tell her about what I knew about magic.
"Mana is used to performing magic, and it resides in the atmosphere. A human needs oxygen to live, and in the same way, magic depends on mana. A person would use the surrounding mana and draw it into their body, ultimately condensing it in their mana pool."
"Mana pool is the place where mana is stored in a human body."
"Aura can also be used for performing magic, but it's rarely used. A person's aura, or life force, is formed inside the body. People learned how to condense and utilize the aura in their bodies."
"A person can only sense mana after their mana pool has fully developed, which usually happens somewhere between the ages of seven and fourteen. When a person first awakens, they will feel an initial repellence of the mana surrounding them when their mana pool manifests."
"Mana is used in a couple of ways. The two most common methods of using mana are: strengthening of the body with mana (Enhancers) and releasing of mana to the outside of the body (Emitters)."
"Enhancers are most often found among warriors who channel mana through their bodies to enhance their abilities and attacks. The strength, defense, and agility of enhancers are remarkable, but they also have a major drawback, which is their limited range of attack."
"Emitters are usually found among mages who use their mana to cast spells that give off a particular effect on the target. The ability to bend their surroundings to their will makes emitters powerful forces, but they also possess a major weakness. To exert their mana into their surroundings in the form of a spell, emitters had to borrow mana from the outside world in addition to their mana pool."
"Enhancers and emitters have different ways of measuring aptitude."
"An enhancer's prowess and talent are measured by the strength of the mana channels in their body, which determines how efficiently and rapidly they can divert mana from their mana pool into various parts of the body."
"An emitter's prowess and talent are measured by the strength of their mana veins, which shows how fast and effective it is for their body to absorb mana from the environment for casting a spell."
"Enhancers don't need powerful veins, since they typically draw their mana from the mana pool, whereas emitters do not need powerful mana channels because they do not channel their mana into themselves."
"In addition to enhancers and emitters, there are a few spirit users and priestesses. Priestesses are people who received blessings from the gods. They are specialized in healing, buffs, and debuffs. As for spirits users, they are people who can communicate with spirits and harness their powers..."
"…And another thing, healing can also be used by those who do not have the blessing of God like grandma."
"Grandpa is an enhancer and..."
I looked towards grandma and said,
"… Grandma, on the other hand, I can't tell which category you belong to since you use both water and healing magic."
When Grandma heard my words, she only smiled.
After a short break, I continue.
"Basics of Enhancing,"
"Enhancing requires proper distribution of mana into different parts of the body, depending on how the user sees fit. Enhancing requires much insight into the individual's own body. Being able to utilize the mana channels efficiently requires years of both mental and physical practice."
"Enhancing involves extracting mana in its purest form from the user's mana pool; at this point, there is no significant difference in an elemental sense. However, enhancers can control their mana freely, resulting in vastly different forms of fighting through enhancement."
"Basics of Emitting,"
"The proper steps of utilizing mana for emitters are to gather the surrounding mana in the area, draw it into their body, and then circulate it into their mana pool to stabilize and purify the atmosphere's diluted mana. You channel it into an appropriate conductor(a staff, wand, ring, of some sort) with incantations as a mental controller for your will into shaping the mana into whatever spell you want. The more powerful the spell, the longer it will take to draw in surrounding mana, store it in your mana pool, where it is condensed and purified, and finally channel and release."
"This is all I knew about Enhancers and Emitters."
"Oh, yeah, there are the elements."
"There are five fundamental elements: Earth, Fire, Water, Wind, and Electricity. Each person has an innate affinity for one of the five elements regardless of whether they are an emitter or enhancer. A person may also have an affinity for darkness, space, light, ice, gravity, and many other elements. However, it is quite rare, which is why we take these five elements as fundamental"
"Aura is similarly used as mana; the only major difference is that mana comes from the outside of the body and is stored in the mana pool, while in the aura, it comes from a person's life force. The aura users tend to be stronger than mana users, but when emitters use aura instead of mana, the body took a lot of strain, while enhancers used the aura to strengthen their physical body. Thus, it's rare to find an aura user who is an emitter. A disadvantage of aura users is that their life force is slowly restored, compared to mana users, who can restore their mana from the surrounding mana."
"There is a phenomenon called 'Backlash' that occurs in both enhancers and emitters. Enhancers experienced extreme pain when their mana pool was depleted, depending on how much damage was done. For emitters, it occurs from overfilling the mana pool. For aura users, the backlash is more intense, since their souls have been damaged."
-----------
"I know other things like five legends."
"The book I was reading was about five legends. Five legends are about five people who have received the power of legendary beasts. According to the book, there are five legendary beasts, but only four of them are known: the Blue Dragon, the Phoenix, the White Tiger, and the Two-headed Black Turtle. The fifth one, however, is still unknown."
"This is all I know."
Grandma was dumbfounded. When I told her about the thing I knew, she was amazed at how detailed I described it.
The room became quiet after I finished my explanation.
Several minutes had passed, but grandma said nothing.
"Grandma! Grandma!" I yelled.
She regained her composure when she heard my voice.
"Y...yeah"
"Are you listening to me?"
"Yes, grandma is listening. She was just surprised at how much little Eethie knows about magic." She said,
Her words made me smile as I listened to them.
Seeing my smile, she smiled as well.
"You already know pretty much everything about magic, so what do you want to learn more about?" She asked.
"I want to know how a person would know whether they are a mana user or an aura user? How would a person awaken their mana pool? How a person would determine whether they are an enhancer or emitter, and last but not least, how ranking systems work."
"These are pretty good questions from a two-year-old." She said,
