As for why they are here, he can guess the reason from the tidbits of information when talking with Ciri when they were still in Winterhold. Especially knowing that the silver lady just came back to this world two or three months before the events of the Eye of Magnus. Making her presence still unknown throughout the Nilfgaardian Empire, which prompted Geralt and his company to hit the road once again, trying to find her. And long story short, embroidered once again in politics that they have no choice but to be a part of, like many other stories in the main timeline.
But William is surprised why Ciri is not immediately trying to find Geralt or giving any indication that she is already back. In her biological father's territory no less. One possible reason that she did not do that, maybe because she's embarrassed and ashamed to confront Geralt since she is in a mess right now. Dealing with a bad addiction that she currently has a hard time rehabilitating, and with the mess of a body that she undertakes, just because this is the only choice for her whereabouts not to be detected by the Wild Hunts.
Which, in turn, surely will make the white-haired Witcher have deep-seated silent anger and a desire for some sort of revenge. Because they pushed his daughter to do some extreme things. An extreme thing that has a similar procedure to that of the Trial of Grasses, since installing cybernetic enhancements in their boomer mind is the same blasted thing. The only difference lies in the approach that takes steel and metal as the base of augmentation rather than alchemical ingredients. That surely tilted Geralt or any other Wolf School witchers that have any deep relationship with her.
Then turning his head to Priscila and Dandelion, he can guess that they are here just because they wanted to travel the world. And since a group of witchers and lovestruck sorcerers that wanted to hit the road finding Ciri is the good company to have that can shield themselves from danger. It becomes apparent why they are here following Geralt and his friend in his quest. Although maybe his old lover has a different motivation in the earlier part of her journey, after years of not seeing each other, maybe that motivation has already been diluted or gone completely.
Not wanting to dwell in the past, especially the sudden remembrance that suddenly popped inside his head, of how she was his comfort when his father and mother died from the Catriona plague, William then just stood up and walked in the direction of Bromjunaar Sanctuary and let himself fall into his frequent bad habit. Which is, pushing not good emotion to the back of his mind and trying to forget every good little thing that they experienced together. Like he did with his parents in this life and three subsequent lives before that, knowing it will only make himself miserable by carrying a baggage of recollection that will hinder his daily activities.

While hopping from one structure to another that slowly lifts up to become like that of before, William's mind couldn't help but focus on the fact that he is not seeing those parties in Labyrinthian. Even though they are very recognizable since the way their dresses are like in the franchise game, he is still unable to realize that they are there with the Imperial army. Maybe the reason is that he is too preoccupied by Morokei and Rikke fighting, or maybe because there are many people on the battlefield that make him unable to notice a certain individual.
One reason that stood out, though, is that he needs something that can make his eyesight look like that of an eagle so that he can clearly see when he is not activating his divination to see objects far away. Especially considering that it seems someone at the level of Morokei can detect him from a mile away when his Mystic Bullet is in the process of aiming. Where he uses divination to fix his trajectory, which, by default properties, is very much like that of not using a silencer in the eye of expert mages. Because it alerts the whole sequence of Magicka all around them that someone is trying to get information out of that individual.
Taking a mental note on his ever-growing list of research about how he needs to enhance his eyesight, William finally arrives at the location. Looking at the big igloo structure that was already dilapidated and exposed by the era of history, he couldn't wrap his mind around the idea of what this thing is for. Although in the game, players that wear the Wooden Mask are transported back in time to where Bromjunaar Sanctuary is still standing, which tells that player that those places are only for the storage section. He is very much in doubt when entering the building and seeing many old Nordic furniture made out of stone that tells this place is very much a living place of someone.
Once again telling himself that reality is very much different from the game counterpart, William then found the main living room where the Dragon Priest Mask artifacts are located. Seeing the item in question sitting there beside a relatively new dead body, William just scratches his head over the ridiculousness of the situation. Somehow he even doubted that the item in front of him that can transport someone into the distant past is not the real deal, since his luck concerning sudden boosts of powers up are very much abysmal at this point.
But once he makes sure, to the best of his knowledge, that this is not a trap and proceeds to wear it just to be transported back in time, he then proceeds to go into madness mode of a past, present, past, present, as to make sure again and again that he is not being tricked whatsoever. Finally convinced this artifact is indeed the real deal, he then questions his luck since there is definitely something wrong with it.
That is, when he tries his hardest to obtain something, it always slips through his fingers. But every time he does something with half-assed motivation, he receives the full package of sudden fortuitous encounters that fall on top of his head without any warning whatsoever. Considering the house that he was transported to is filled with many arcane books and any other magical things that were collected by the owner of that house, High Elder of Dragon Priest Konahrik.
