4 Broken.

Laura's pov.

I was still in my room when i heard the kid's voices. They seemed to have been talking to Thomas.

I just realized that i had to be strong for them.

I had to transform back to my human form. I had to leave my zombie state.

I knew it was going to be hard to pretend that everything was fine but i had to...for our children.

I left my room to go check on them.

They seemed to have heard the news about their dad's death because the moment they saw me, they hugged me crying. It seemed that their tears were the trigger of mine. I found myself crying for the first time since i received the news of Ray's death.

Leigh's tears broke me.

She was her dad's favorite.

Ray would never have allowed her cry.

He had never allowed that.

If the dead could see, then Ray would be hurt. Maybe his soul was not at peace.

The two broke off from me and hugged as they cried.

It seemed they too did not believe the news till they saw me.

My perfect family didn't even last a day before it transformed to a broken family. We were broken. My children were. I had to fix them first...maybe i could get fixed in my mission to fix them.

As i watched the two cry, i wiped my tears away. I vowed to forever protect them.

"I'll help you get through this kids and after i fix you, i would never let anyone break you again." That was my vow.

I helped them to their rooms to change into more comfortable clothes. Thomas seemed to have ordered dinner for us but none of us ate.

When it was time for bed, they both came to my room with an "I can't sleep " excuse. I didn't send them away. I couldn't send them away. I also needed company lest i found the night cold and lonely.

~~~
It's two days already after Ray's burial.Things must go back to normal. The kids must go back to school but I'm reluctant to send them away.
How am i going to protect them from the hungry stares from teachers and schoolmates while they are away?
Who will comfort them when they cry?
Who will reassure them that I will never leave them?
It's hard to let go.
But we have to.
"Will you be here for us in the evening?" Leigh asked as she got off the car.
"Yes sweetie."
I watched as they disappeared to their classroom.
"I'll go to the police station with the other men Thomas. You should stay behind and take care of them."
I instructed Thomas who seemed reluctant to leave my sight.
"I won't do anything stupid to myself Thomas if that is what you are afraid of."
He was still reluctant.
"Okay what about this. Call Reagan to come drive me to the station while you remain here."
He nodded.
Thomas just became overprotective...it will be a long time before I'm allowed to drive.
"Be careful." Thomas reminded Reagan for the third time since he came. I shook my head slowly. I can tell Thomas was the most affected among Ray's men. He Ray's was his right-hand man and he had stayed the longest with Ray. I still don't know the story between him and Ray but i guess it has to be a very touching one considering how much affected he was.
The police didn't have much for us.There was no charges pressed on the Andersons because it seemed Ray had literally driven into the other car.
But that was not Ray. He was always the most careful person moreso on the road. I didn't want to complain about anything, for now my priority was my kids and the company.
As I was leaving the station, I crashed into someone. Ouch! Before I even reacted, i received a call. I murmured a quick sorry before leaving , my kids needed me.
"What's wrong Thomas?" I asked as i walked to the parking lot.
"Derrick got into a fight." I really wanted to ask him where he was at that time but i refrained...he was already trying very much for us.
I instructed Reagan to take me there. I needed to take care of my kids.
"Mrs William."
I ignored the teacher and rushed towards my kid to check if at all he was fine.
"Why are you asking him? Can't you see that my child is hurt."
"Noisy housefly." I heard Leigh comment and i chuckled, the first time. I really missed that.
"Hey baby, what happened?" I asked Derrick.
"I beat him."
Really.Why were those kids like that. We were in the middle of something serious for God's sake.
"I mean what happened?"
I asked hoping to get more information.
"He made Leigh sad."
I understood. Maybe he had commented something nasty about their dad's death. I couldn't blame Derrick for trying to protect his sister.
"Mrs William,"
The teacher was here. I almost forgot.
I nodded.
" I understand your husband died and I'm sorry about your husband's death but your kids cannot use that as an excuse to get into a fight with the other kids. Derrick is suspended. Sorry."
Shit!Really!Suspension. And did she say that she understood anything. I was mad.
"Did you just say you understand something? I'm not sure you do because if you did then this would not have happened. There is no need for suspension madam..."
She seemed confused.
"...because I'm taking my kids away from this school."
Leigh raised her little hands coming for a high five but i ignored her. Really Leigh. What was there to celebrate.
I walked with my kids out of the office knowing very well that i shouldn't have done that. I know i was rude but it was an adrenaline rush.
