The Horde Part 2

No one was in the way of the wolf, and the only thing in front of it was a large wall. The gate was closed, so what did it plan to do? How could it possibly breakthrough?

As if to answer that question, once the wolf had reached the wall, it jumped in an attempt to climb it. The jump had failed, and the wolf landed on the ground. After taking a moment to recuperate, it tried again and succeeded this time. Both of its front legs and most of its upper body were on top of the wall, and it quickly climbed completely onto the wall. Most of the people near the area where the wolf was trying to climb had already run away after attempting the first jump and those who remained rushed towards the leftover supplies and took up arms.

Man - "AAAAHHHHHH!"

A man was charging at the wolf, and he may have even been able to land a hit on it if he weren't screaming like a maniac. The wolf hadn't noticed the man before, but once he began yelling, the wolf quickly turned towards him and slashed him with its claws.

The man received unrepairable damage and fell off of the wall. The remaining forces who decided to fight against the wolf quickly lost their courage and tried to run away. The wolf managed to kill two more people, and then it set its sights on Madison.

Madison - "ahh damn."

[Darkness]

The wolf started charging towards Madison at a rapid pace but was still a decent distance away.

Madison created two steps using her earth magic, and when the wolf got close enough, she ran up the two steps and leaped over it. The wolf had run through the two short walls, and once Madison got behind it, she followed up with a counterattack.

The wolf began to turn around, but it took longer than usual since the walls weren't extremely wide. Madison took full advantage of this time and landed two consecutive hits on its side before using [Acid]. After her attack, she backed up and made some distance.

The attacks caused the wolf to be pushed back a little, but it looked relatively unhurt and growled in anger after it completely turned around. After seeing how the wolf looked, Madison used [Inspect] on it.

That's it? That's not nearly enough damage. I doubt it will fall for that again, so I can't do what I just did, and due to fighting the horde, my MP is running a bit low. I'll need to focus on dodging and counterattacking for the time being.

The wolf began to charge again, but this time it tried something different.

Just as Madison was about to dodge, a blue window appeared in front of her informing her of what she was affected by. She was completely frozen in place for about a second, and while a second may not seem like a lot of time, in a battle like this, being late by even a second can be fatal.

Madison - "SHIT!"

The duration of the [Roar] had worn off, and the wolf seemed to be attacking with a bite. Madison no longer had enough time to dodge, and an attack seemed inevitable.

[Blink]

After using [Blink], Madison suddenly moved backward about two feet. The wolf had not expected to miss its bite, but that didn't stop it from continuing its attack. Next, it slashed at Madison with one of its front paws. Madison couldn't use [Blink] again for a few seconds due to its cooldown but still tried to dodge the attack. She was unable to avoid it properly and was hit.

Madison - "OOMPH!"

Madison was knocked back a few feet but managed to regain her footing quickly and prevented herself from falling off the wall. Two decent-sized claw-shaped gashes were now apparent on Madison's left shoulder and forearm. It tore through the jacket and hurt like hell, but her adrenaline numbed most of the pain.

I don't get it; I'm at a higher level than it, so why was I affected? It doesn't make sense.

Madison looked behind her and noticed some weapons in a supply stash. She began running towards it, but the wolf didn't waste much time and began to give chase soon after.

Upon Reaching the supplies, Madison quickly found and grabbed a sword. The sword wasn't one of good quality, but this wasn't the time to be a choosing beggar. After holding the sword, Madison opened her [Status] menu and quickly adjusted her stats.

It only took about five seconds to grab the sword and adjust her stats, but the wolf was quickly approaching. Madison knew this all too well and used most of her remaining MP to use some more magic.

Madison turned around towards the wolf. The beast began a motion that looked as if it would pounce towards her. She started running towards the wolf, and when it pounced at her, she used [Blink] and slid underneath it.

[Fire LV4]

The blade of the sword was set on fire, and while under the beast, Madison thrust her sword upward into its underbelly. She had managed to slice through about halfway when she lost her grip, and the blade got stuck inside the wolf.

The wolf crashed and fell onto some of the supplies. It whimpered and whined as It attempted to stand back up but ultimately failed and fell again. This time, it was too close to the edge and fell off of the wall and onto the ground below.

Madison looked over the edge towards the wolf, and when she saw it again, it had combusted into flames. Her first true enemy, there it was, turning into a pile of ash in front of her very eyes. Madison didn't know how to feel.

Suddenly from the direction of the battlefield, cheers could be heard. Madison ran on the wall towards the sounds, and when she arrived, she saw that the fight had ended. This had been the most exhausting battle of her life. It only lasted half an hour, but it felt like an eternity.

The crimson sky above was a sight to behold. As the sun began to set, an absolutely breathtaking view presented itself. Madison looked at the corpses littered around the ground, and while unbeknownst to her, she gave off an eerie smile and had a frightening look in her eyes.

Madison - "It's such a beautiful sight."

She didn't know at the time, but something changed in her that day. Ever since she had arrived in this new place, she did her best to hold onto what she once was, but today, Madison had lost what little remained of her humanity. She was now truly becoming a demon.
