It's a bit expensive but now that I have magic from the Harry Potter world I can start brewing it. I won't be able to brew this level of potion immediately, but it won't take long to get to that level as a potion master. Until the day that I attain those skills, I'll buy it from the shop when it's needed.
'System, buy a vial of Veritaserum from the shop'
{Veritaserum has been added to the inventory section of the status menu.}
After buying it from the shop, I stick my hand into my pocket and pretend to pull the vial out. The inventory comes in handy and I'd rather not everyone know about it. I hold up the vial to show everyone in the room. Once everyone got a good look, I walked over to the downed assassin/spy/maid.
"I call this Veritaserum. Veritaserum is a powerful truth serum. The potion effectively forces the drinker to answer any questions put to them truthfully." I say and everyone present in the room looks at the vail in my hands with awe and fear. "Souei, hold her still, and pull out her tongue a bit for me."
"Yes, Master." He says and gets to work.
Souei picks her up by the neck with one hand and pulls her tongue out enough for me to place a few drops on her tongue. After placing a few drops of the serum on her tongue, I close the vial and look at Souei.
"Shackle her up so we can start our questioning."
Souei nods as shackles of darkness emerge from the ground and wrap around her tightly. He then reaches into his own shadow and pulls out a cup filled with water. The water is promptly dumped on the captive's head. Waking her up with a start. She looks around the room and tries to stand, but the chains restraining her keep her in place.
"Your Majesty, feel free to ask her anything. If I feel that you miss anything, I'll ask her once you've finished." I say, giving the king control for the time being.
"Alright, let's start with something easy. What is your name?" The king asks.
"Vanessa, no last name." She says robotically.
Well, that isn't the name she's been using, but that was expected from an apt.
"Who is your employer?" He asks as his questions get serious.
"I'm currently employed by the royal family of the Bestia Kingdom." She says and the king looks at me questioningly.
"Whoever she's working for isn't her employer. In her mind, she works for you. It could be her master or something. Try asking a more specific question." I say and the king nods.
"What was your objective when you came to work in the palace?" The king asks as I suggested.
"I was tasked to infiltrate the palace and spy on its residents. If my orders were to change I would receive a message." She says and everyone is starting to get more interested.
"Who is the one that ordered you to infiltrate the palace?"
"Cardinal Sonostro gave me the orders himself." She says and everyone in the room starts glaring at the girl.
The vibe in the room turned dark as all of the Noble and even the king himself grew annoyed and furious.
"How dare that cult empire pull something like this!"
"They call us animals and yet they act more like animals than any of us."
"This isn't much of a surprise. Those racist pigs have been gunning for our kingdom for millennia now."
"True, this isn't anything new. The Eos Empire has been invading and badmouthing our country for a while now."
"Yes, but if there is one roach, there are many more you don't see."
"We'll have to have all of the servants in the palace questioned."
"Not just the palace. Who knows if they've infiltrated our houses as well."
The thought of having any of those racist cult members in their homes send shivers down every Noble's spine. As the Nobles were discussing among themselves, the king interrupted them with annoyance clear in his voice.
"Quiet down! These things may be discussed after all of our questions are answered." The king exclaims and everyone shuts their mouths. "What was your most recent change in orders, Vanessa?"
"I was told to keep a close eye on princess Aella and her new fiancé prince Syrin. If possible, I am to ruin their relationship. On the chance that I can't break them up or My cover is blown, I'm to kill one of them. Preferably both as it would weaken both Bestia and Fortis kingdoms." She day and I nod as I expected that was her mission earlier.
Aella looks ashamed at herself as she heard the spy say this. I just pat her on the back and try to comfort her. The king doesn't miss this, so he probably knows that something happened between us. He then looks at us worriedly as this alliance may have actually been ruined. I just give him a reassuring smile and motion for him to continue.
The questions continue and we learn just about everything we needed. At least for now that is. She'll be kept in the dungeons in case she needed for further questioning. Why we learned is this. The Eos Empire has sent her to spy on the royal palace. She was recently told to break me and Aella up and kill us if she were to fail. The Eos Empire is one of the more scary countries on this continent. They are even more racist than the Malum Kingdom. The Bestia kingdom has been fighting them for a long time. The large majority of said fights are started by the Eos Empire.
They would pillage the border settlements of the Bestia Kingdom. All people in said settlements would be enslaved and sold back in the empire, as the empire sees non-humans as nothing but animals. It's sad but racism and slavery is pretty common in this world.
