Vanessa took a seat next to Raylie. She stroked her hair back nervously out of her face. Eagerly trying to find the best way to explain the situation.
"We dated on and off throughout Middle School. The day that I introduced you to him I was embarrassed to say that I used to date him. He's not all that good looking, but I know he's a good person."
As Vanessa spoke, Raylie remember the day she met Nick. She had gone over to Vanessa's house after school for a sleepover celebrating early release day dancing around her room. While Nessa sat at her computer desk, searching for music to download. A video call popped on her screen. A young boy with olive tan skin, shoulder length black hair smirked back at the play full teenage girls.
"Who is this?" Riley remembered asking.
Vanessa turned around to gesture with a finger in her mouth and a face of disgust.
"He's a friend I used to go to school with" she answered.
Really intrigued by The Rock boy look white T-shirt and ripped up jeans hair put to the side. Sweet face, but the curve in his smile said he knew more than his innocent face could tell. For the first time she felt brave enough to get to know him exchanging numbers so they could talk privately. Openly acknowledging her interest despite the disgusted look on Vanessa's face.
Vanessa sitting on the porch fidgeting with her fingers looks back up at Raylie.
"I didn't think you guys would start dating. Our whole sophomore year you have been a big flirt, but you haven't dated anyone. When you told me that you guys started dating I freaked out at that point I didn't want to tell you that you're dating my ex-boyfriend. You looked happy as weird as it it all made me feel I didn't want to ruin that for you. I told him not to tell you I didn't want you getting mad at me."
Raylie stunned as all the secrets unraveled before her. The more Vanessa explained things the more Raylie's thoughts ran wild through her head. It didn't comfort her. She didn't have compassion for the girl sitting next to her. She kept picturing in her head of the two of them talking behind her back keeping this secret from her. Something must have been said or done for Vanessa tell Nick she loved him.
Rail rubbed her forehead with her hands as if she was trying to rub the images out of her head shutting her eyes tight. She struck a look back at Vanessa.
"So have you guys been seeing each other behind my back this whole time?
No! Vanessa responded quickly trying to keep Raylie's wondering mind contained.
We haven't been seeing each other. I asked him not to tell you and I told him how weird I've felt. He asked me if I still had feelings for him. He got in my head, he made me think about everything in our past. Nick told me he never got over me. I denied him, but last night seeing you two together made me jealous. I know I truly don't want to be with him and there is nothing there. I don't know what came over me to say what I said last night."
Vanessa knew at this point the friendship was over the expression on Raylie's face screamed with rage. She thought that by being honest Raylie would forgive her.
Raylie was the only person she knew who didn't judge others by their actions and always appreciated the honesty. This was the girl who tried to understand others. The one who would get mad at people for judging other people. But sitting across from her was someone different. This expression she hadn't seen before.
The fiery Caribbean Carefree soul had turned as cold as ice. With a dead look in her eyes and a firm tone she said.
Then this should be a conversation between you and nick since you never gave a fuck about keeping this from me.
Raylie walked away into her house and didn't look back, slamming the door behind her. Locking herself in her room.
Images flashing through her head reminiscing about everything that's happened since she met Nick. Trying to understand how she could not see every facial expression Vanessa made when Raylie talked about Nick. Imagining what what happened between Nick and Vanessa behind Raylie's back.
Did he really mean what he said to her? Did he truly never stop having feelings for her? Did he only ask me out to get closer to her?
All these thoughts caused her pain which then turns to anger. She quickly picked up her phone. Scrolling through her contacts looking for the right person to vent to.
She couldn't continue to allow her mind to wander to what could have happened. The worst things you can think of were going through her head. This was the person she has lost her virginity to. The person who made her feel secure and safe had pulled the rug from underneath her. She went from feeling like a Queen to feeling like the Queen's fool.
The phone rang in her hands and her heart stopped. Her favorite love song played has she hesitated to pick up.
