Heck, he may be older than me, but he has not seen even half as much shit as I have, so compared to me, he's still and will be for a long time to come an idealist.

I mean come on he has not even experienced WW1 or WW2, and he doesn't know the incredible levels of madness, insanity, and degeneracy humanity is able to display.

"Gabriel, I realized early on, that for some reasons yet unknown to me, you are disappointed, disillusioned, and a little bit cynical, but that does not make it right to judge humanity as a whole!": he said, before going on: "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone! This is what the bible says, and neither you nor I stand above this. Sure, we have lived for a much longer time, but we are not their betters.".

"I am …": I wanted to justify myself, but he jumped in, and stopped me.

"Gabriel, you are right! I am not trying to start an argument here. You are family to me, so trying to prove that I am right or that you are wrong, is pointless. All I want is for you to not get stuck in what you think. I just want you to keep an open-minded world view instead of condemning them all. Please, think about what I said.": he said his part and left to take care of his patients needs.

It has been centuries since I met one of my kind that has not yet fallen into bloodlust, stagnation, or gone completely power hungry.

Gabriel is a kindred spirit, having once more someone in my life to have conversations with is just enjoyable, he sees life as beautiful yet chaotic.

A few that certainly intrigues me, yet, at the same time, he has this unexplainable anger and hatred for humanity as a whole.

I don't know what he has experienced, but I hope just being there as a friend and as an older brother, he will someday be able to confide in me.

Also, he is an annoying little prick! I know he is my brother, and he is new to this whole immortality, just that the idiot tends to get too excited about money.

Sure, he has amassed an insanely huge fortune in just one century, simply only because I wasn't ever that interested in money or politics, otherwise I'd beat him in either one.

"Hey, what are you pissed about?": Gabriel's voice brought me out of my thoughts.

"Just wondering what the future will be like, and if we should leave Chicago.": I answer, diverting the topic towards a real issue we've got to face.

"I assume in the distant future the world will be overcrowded, riddled with a zillion problems, and much dirtier.": he says with a bit of annoyance.

"Haha, so everything will mostly stay the same?": I kind of find his ironic and bleak view refreshing.

"Who knows, it is called future for a reason, right?": Gabriel throws out rhetorically.

"So what about the other topic? Should we leave or stay?": I ask.

"Well, we don't have to leave, we can live for a few years in seclusion, open a small clinic, and leave in one or two decades.": Gabriel answers, surprising me a bit.

"I thought you did not like living in the city, so why should we stay?"

"I don't know how to answer your question, Carlisle. Would you believe me if I told you that I have this nagging feeling, that something important is going to happen, and that we need to be In Chicago for it to happen?": he asks me.

"Gabriel, do you have some kind of precognitive power or a sixth sense?": I know some vampires are blessed with unexplainable special powers, just asking if someone has one is impolite though, and most cultured vampires don't do it, unless the person comes clean on their own.

"My power is neither one nor the other, though, close in its nature to both of them. I can perceive good luck and bad luck, and it may be described as a sense. I am unsure of the right terminology for it.": and there he goes again, falling into his own train of thoughts when he wants to understand something.

"Okay, so you can perceive luck? Is that all there is to it?"

"Well, I can also manipulate it!": he says.

"Wait a second! You can manipulate luck? Like actual probability?": I exclaim in shock.

Isn't this, like, a bit too broken? To be able to merely perceive luck is already quite a broken power, but to even be able to actively influence probability is insane.

"Yes, exactly that.": he says with a no kidding face.

"Is this why it is impossible to beat you in games?": I ask, a bit pissed off, he has cheated me of quite a few of my wages of the years.

"Well, partly, the main reason is that your Poker-face just sucks. Anyone, not being blind or brain-dead, can read your intentions like an open book.": he answers with a smug grin.

I ought to beat him up one of these days, only I would probably lose, he is stronger because he drinks human blood, and on top of that he is a proficient fighter.

*Sigh*

"Whatever, I won't allow you to get a rise out of me again!": I say in a defeated voice.

"What a Killjoy.": Gabriel replies from under his breath.
