Chapter 150: White Fang (2)

~Third POV~

Team RWBY, JNPR, Qrow, Winter, and Glynda have left the Headmaster's Office and packed their belongings for the long trip ahead to search ahead to Mt. Glenn. When they were all packed up they all soon headed on their way to the airship that will take them to Quadrant 5.

Yang makes a joke along with her friends, "That wasn't exactly uplifting."

Blake nods admitting to what Yang spoke out, "But it's the truth."

Ruby being the optimistic person in the group responded happily, "It's going to be tough, but I know we can do it!"

That was when Ren noticed a team returning back from their mission as he voices out to them, "Hey isn't that Team CFVY? Looks like they made it back."

Beacon students gather around to witness the return of Team CFVY. Blake goes up to Velvet Scarlatina looking tired, "Velvet? Are you okay?"

Velvet responds in a kind tone but also with a hint of tiredness from her, "I'm fine. I had Yatsuhashi to look out for me."

Weiss asked concerned about the Faunus in front of her recalling she volunteered to do the dance organizing in their absence, "Your mission was supposed to end a week ago! What happened?"

Velvet looks up and notices Team's worried expressions before calming their worries and concerns, "Nothing happened. It was just ... there were just so many... Oh, but don't worry. You first-years are just shadowing Huntsmen, so you should be fine."

Nora smiles at this with a nod agreeing with Velvet, "Right! Also, take care Velvet!"

Velvet nods at this as she began to take her to leave from the first years, "I should go. Be safe, okay?"

Ruby nods at this and gets pumped up for their mission ahead of them, "We can do this. We've never backed down before, and we're not going to start now."

Pyrrha agrees to this with a smile on her face voicing out their win, "Right. We've never backed down before and I for one don't like to start."

Ruby nods in agreement happily as she gushes out having professionals to help them, "Besides, it won't only be us out there! We'll be fighting alongside a genuine Huntsman and Huntresses!"

"Yeah!"

Soon enough the students waited before not long after Qrow, Glynda, and Winter all came along with Qrow making a joke to them, "Why, hello girls! Who's ready to fight for their lives?"

Jack could twitch at that with Winter frowning unamused by his antics Glynda rolled her eyes with Winter responding to Qrow, "Must you always be this way? Couldn't you be professional? And stop drinking."

Qrow jokes around taking out a swig of his flask before pausing with everyone staring at him before shrugging responding to them, "Heh. It must be 3:00 somewhere Ice Queen. Gulp."

Winter could only sigh at this touching the bridge of her nose with Qrow antics with Glynda explaining to the students, "Now then. Ahem. Yes, I'm afraid those bags won't be necessary, students, seeing as you've opted to shadow a Huntsman on what is now essentially a reconnaissance mission. I can assure you, we will not be establishing a single base of operations; rather, we will be traversing several miles of hazardous wasteland and making camp in any defendable locations we may stumble upon. The Headmaster already packed all of our essentials, plotted our air course, and readied the airship."

The Team looked at each other and nodded agreeing to drop off some of their items along with bringing items they need.

Soon the airship flew over buildings and streets amid deafening turbines while the group for the first time saw Mt. Glenn and the destruction of what happened.

Taking this moment Glynda began to give everyone a lesson to the students of what happened to Mt. Glenn, "Now then students while we are on this mission, I want you to stay close to your designated shadow guardian. Since we have the time can anyone tell me the history behind Mt. Gleen?"

At this Weiss was the first to be confused about the sudden question but seeing Winter around asked for curiosity's sake, "History? I'm sorry professor how does history relate to our mission for the day?"

Glynda responds to them by her raising her glasses and responding in a lecture-like manner to them, "Besides, given my expertise in the field of combat I do know a thing or two about the history of our Kingdom. Oobleck would've been ideal but considering the dangers ahead, our dear headmaster saw fit to assign me to this particular assignment. Why history is important because one could say it's the backbone of our society."

Remembering his time listening to Oobleck Class Jack was the first to respond, "The southeast quadrant outside of Vale is home to wild forests and deep caves, but it is also the location of one of the kingdom's greatest failures. Mountain Glenn."

Yang soon has a lightbulb remembering it from class as she joined along with Jack's response for more details, "That's right! It was an expansion of Vale... but in the end, it was overrun by Grimm and fenced off from the rest of the city."

Glynda nods at this while praising the two students in a kind tone, "Correct. And now it stands abandoned as a dark reminder but also likely a hideout."

That was when Jack also pointed another out remembering his little adventure RWBY: Grimm Eclipse obtaining his island pointing his finger out, "Well that's not their only option. We also have to consider the Underground City under Mt. Glenn as well. In all likelihood, we should also investigate it when we have the chance."

Glynda thinks for a bit before remembering there was indeed an underground pathway to Mt. Glenn but frowns on the topic, "Of course. In a last-ditch effort to stave off destruction, the citizens of Mountain Glenn took refuge in the tunnels they had initially cleared for their subways, converting them into an underground settlement and cutting themselves off from the surface entirely. The underground city could be used as a hideout as well."

Qrow takes a swig from his flask also frowning remembering from his early days of Beacon study of the subject, "Unfortunately, this supposed safe haven was eventually compromised when an explosion opened the mouth of another cavern filled with subterranean Grimm. This left the town completely exposed and the remaining citizens beyond saving. With no other recourse, Vale sealed off the tunnels permanently, creating the world's largest tomb. The ruins of Mountain Glenn now stand as a reminder for history to reflect upon."

The students listened intently thinking of the possibility of the enemy bases with either on top overview of the city or on the bottom underground city.

The airship comes in over a spot of street amidst the ruined buildings and structures of the ruined area.

It hovers right above the ground as everyone jumps out of the craft with weapons drawn before the ship flies away from the destruction.

Glynda soon calls the attention of Team JNPR and RWBY with a strict voice, "You still may be students, but as of this moment, your first mission as Huntresses and Huntsman has begun! From this point forward, you need to do exactly as I say! Do you understand?"

Everyone nodded at this following Glynda's expression with Blake first beginning to speak out to her, "So, what are your orders, Professor Goodwitch?"

Glynda smiles at them for the importance of their mission first as she began to get them to the point, "Ah, yes, straight to the chase it's good to have the objective of the mission on the mind Miss Belladonna. As you've been informed, the southeast area has been marked as a recent hot spot for Grimm activity. Now, there are several possible explanations for this behavior, one of which is... Grimm."

Ruby just as confused as her teammates for the redundancy, "Uh, what?"

Qrow glances ahead to see the Grimm coming as he smirked acting cool, "Heh. Still have a lot to learn Ruby. Grimm. A creature of Grimm approximately one hundred yards from us at this very moment."

Yang was surprised by how lax Qrow was with Grimm soon coming over, "What?!"

She turns to look like the others at the lone Beowolf wandering into the street, joining them in unleashing their weapons but is stopped by Winter, "Stop!"

Everyone lowers their weapons like everyone else to listen with Winter explaining to them their situation in a cold tone, "There are a number of reasons why Grimm will congregate in this particular area, the most likely of which will be their attraction to negativity: sadness, envy, loneliness, hatred. All qualities that are likely held by our hidden group harboring ill intent."

Ruby questions Winter in a curious tone of her voice, "So... What now?"

Winter replied as if it was a simple answer to the young Huntress, "We wait. We track. If this specimen leads us to its pack, it may lead us to our prey."

Blake questions Winter with a serious expression on her face, "How long do we wait?"

It was then Qrow responded seeing more Grimm coming blaming his <Misfortune> at this time but soon sees Jack smirking wanting to pin it on him, "It's uncertain. Hours, days, weeks. Why lone Grimm has been known to stay isolated from the pack for months – and there's the whole pack. Man, what bad luck right kid?"

His sudden realization is true five Beowolves are already following the first with Jack's eye twitching at Qrow with a face saying oh fuck your bad luck.

With more Grimm coming Qrow began to lecture the students while Glynda and Winter glared at Qrow for his bad luck, "And now they've seen us. Way to go me and Jackie boy."

Jack was quickly offended by Qrow's words with his lips twitching at him, "Oh screw you damn crow. Just because I can control my <Misfortune> doesn't mean I'm the cause of most bad things happening."

"Most?"

Ren was the first to reply raising an eyebrow out at his leader for his words turning away and acting like a kid at that, "Ok I have worst luck controlled… not my fault I thought it was a handy Semblance."

Qrow swings his arm around Jack's shoulder replying to him, "Ah… welcome to my world bub."

Ruby ignoring the two asked Glynda instead in a serious voice, "I take it tracking them is out of the question?"

Glynda nods at this calmly replying to her question, "An accurate assumption, yes."

Yang raises her weapons asking the professionals what's next, "What's the plan, then?"

The teams turn to their guardians as the creatures close in, black bars converging dramatically over the approaching animals.

Winter was the first to respond to them with a small smile for their command, "Show me what you're capable of."

Ruby nods and swings Crescent Rose to prepare it for shooting.

Smiling Yang runs towards one another, ending with the blonde knocking it out in one fiery punch as they pass.

Several stop chasing after the party girl to focus on Blake, who stands and waits with her hand on her hilt until one of the enemies swipes at her afterimage, the real deal slicing her would-be attacker in half before slashing through another and cutting down on one more.

Behind the Faunus, Weiss runs from several black-coated beasts before jumping in the air and taking one down with Myrtenaster. She dashes towards them with rapier held high and slays four of them in a straight line until she stops.

A wave of Beowolves is converging on Ruby, but the scythe wielder shoots multiple bullets at the oncoming force... while Team JNPR follows behind providing backup to Team RWBY.

The fight continued before the end of the wave happened with Ruby lifting her weapon, "Heh. Piece of cake!"

Glynda was the first to scold Ruby while keeping her focus on the mission on hand, "Do not celebrate yet, for I am certain this is the first bout of many. Shall we continue?"
