Chapter 12: Vale (4)

Chapter 12: Vale (4)

~Jack POV~

?

Glancing toward a building I wasn't quite familiar with I glanced at it with some interest in my eyes on the building in question.

Seeing some guards with a very questionable choice of clothing I began to get closer as I talked to the two, "Hello sir? Can you tell me what exactly this building is? I'm from a village out of Kingdom so I do apologize if I don't know."

<Observe>.

[Jill Why – Lv.? Huntsman of Vale Branch Hunters Guild]

[Hati Mondi – Lv.? Huntsman of Vale Branch Hunters Guild]

Hunters Guild?

That's a thing here?

Glancing in my direction Jill the female huntress glanced at me with a smile as she explained to me the building in question, "Sure thing. This place is a Hunter's Guild where Huntsman and Huntresses get requests from the citizens. Are you perhaps interested in forming a request?"

Shaking my head at this I replied with genuine curiosity in my voice as I spoke, "No. At least not that I'm aware of at least. Although what is the requirement to join here though for curiosity's sake?"

"Ha!"

That was when the guy guarding the entrance laughed at me for the question as he spoke out loud, "Hahaha! Man, you must be from the boonies kid if you're asking that. But the only requirement you need is strength or passing a fighting spar test with our newbies. Or also have a Huntsman license from one of the Combat Schools also helps."

Ah…

So, you need basically some good fighting experience, some background info, or at least be in a combat school to get a job here.

Getting curious about the whole Hunter Guild system I began to ask what the job entails with the promise I pay them for this easy request.

That seems to get their attention as they began to talk more about the rules.

Those who wish to become Huntsmen or Huntresses often first attend primary combat schools like Sanctum Academy of Mistral or Signal Academy located in Patch as they said were prime examples.

Those schools are designed to show new students the fundamentals of combat, weapon crafting, and the applications of Dust and Aura on the battlefield.

However, those who have honed their skills on their own can skip this step and apply directly to the school.

Potential applicants must then pass a rigorous entrance exam, and those that pass can attend Huntsman Academies, whose sole purpose is to train the next generation of Huntsmen and Huntresses who will in turn live and die to defend the four Kingdoms and the lifestyles they have become accustomed to.

Upon acceptance into one of the academies, prospective students are granted a student Huntsman License they can access through their scrolls. Upon graduation, this student license is updated to a full professional Huntsmen License.

Both student and professional licenses contain the same information.

Their only difference is that a student license is labeled as a Student License, while pro licenses bear either Huntsman License or Huntress License depending on the gender of the Huntsman.

That is a must criterion for pros to enter the guild for more dangerous missions but it also helps find the Huntsman or Huntress they need in question.

After graduation, the founders of the academies intended that the allegiance of a Huntsman or Huntress would not be tied to a specific Kingdom.

With their Huntsmen licenses, graduates are granted the freedom to choose whom they work for as well as the nature of their work.

Huntsmen find employment through the use of mission boards.

This approach is not without problems, however, as Huntsmen are known to be employed for disreputable purposes on occasion solely for Lien.

Mission boards detail the type of mission, a short description of the task, where the task is needed, and how soon the mission will start.

Mission boards also detail a mission's status after someone accepts it.

That was when Jill explained something interesting about the mission board to me as she spoke out her opinion, "While most Huntsman or Huntresses do take jobs from the mission board, it is revealed that the mission board system is flawed."

Raising my eyebrow at that remark was next supported by Hati as he nods confirming it as he spoke out, "While the intent is to have it so that the board updates in real-time, multiple Huntsmen can accept the mission at the same time, making it so that they both need to complete the objective and split the reward."

Hearing this I have to wonder about something that has been curious in my mind about bounties then since they exist, "In that case do you guys take bounties then? Like I mean take Grimm bounties or only criminals against the Kingdom?"

Listening to my question Jill was the first to reply about that as she responded about the topic some more, "Sigh… well that depends on generally, rewards scale to the difficulty of the particular objective, especially with bounty missions on the Grimm. Despite the Grimm bounties being more worthwhile it's just ain't worth my life for it kid?"

Blinking in confusion about that Hati was next to reply about the subject from his general opinion about it, "True Jill…. However, in some cases, as seen with Centinels, Huntsmen may avoid bounty missions on specific Grimm, and as a result, making their rewards be disproportionately large compared to the difficulty ranking."

Nodding my head at this I get the gist of what they are saying.

Basically, the more scary and powerful the Grimm is the more Lien they place on the table to grab.

The two pros began to explain further what types of missions that were generally taken for Huntsman and Huntresses.

There are many different types of missions for Huntsmen and Huntresses to undertake.

The currently known types of missions available to Huntsmen and Huntresses include:

Search and Rescue - Finding missing person(s) or recovering missing supplies.

Search and Destroy - Clearing out Grimm when their infestations grow too large.

Perimeter Defense - Fortifying walls and defenses to keep Grimm out of the kingdom and city limits.

Village Security - Helping a village (not established as one of four kingdoms) fight off Grimm.

Bounty - Capturing wanted criminal(s) and Grimm.

Escort - Helping civilians move through Grimm-infested areas.

After listening to them about the job I thanked them for the info since I paid for their time as I began to walk away thinking about my own thoughts about being a Huntsman and Huntresses…

/////

"Sigh…."

Just listening to them made me wonder what I should be doing in my life exactly.

I spent too much time looking at the streets but couldn't help but feel familiar with it.

Got to admit though this place certainly feels different than I'm usually to back on Earth. And certainly, more diverse in some respects for example looking like London back on Earth for starters.

Never left my home but I do recall some photos looking like this though.

That and I have been using my <Observe> to level up my skills as much as I can along with <Sneak> skill to avoid confrontation if I can help it.

The city of Vale is divided into multiple sectors, having an upper-class district, a commercial district, an industrial district, an agricultural district, and a residential district.

Currently, I'm walking down the sidewalk as I'm minding my own business in what was it called again…?

Come on it's just at the tip of my tongue…

Ah!

Oh, right the Commercial District.

The commercial district of Vale includes numerous shops for the public catering to a variety of lifestyles and interests befitting its vibrant and diverse culture. The architecture of the commercial district appears to vary widely, possibly according to socioeconomic factors.

While some areas appear to be surrounded by buildings with well-kept brick façades, holographic street lamps, pedestrian crossing, and clear streets, other areas appear to be more low-income, such as those surrounding Junior's Club, which are characterized by metal, bare concrete, and power-lines.

At least according to the signs posted around about Vale Kingdom info that is.

Hmm…?

[Roman Torchwick – Lv.? Kingpin]

My eyes widen in brief surprise seeing this guy here as I began to use my <Sneak> skill to get away from him the guy got a good look at Roman while I was genuinely surprised to see him look so…

Realistic is the word I would use as people are beginning to go away from him like the plague as I followed the people by their example.

Viewing the guy with his grunts following him I simply ignored the situation as I had a feeling, I wasn't strong enough to handle that.

Always precede with caution.

Although the level seems to be very high considering Roman, I guess it makes sense.

They are a duo but that doesn't mean they have to work together all the time.

Moving aside I don't want to be under that guy's radar as I want to see where exactly I am timeline-wise as well as events that happened here.

First, if I need to survive what I need most though is to get my level up fast so that I don't remain weak in this world.

Simple inspiration would be Saitama or Caped Baldy to follow.

Yeah, no wrong play style for me to pick here.

Just become physically powerful like him if that's possible but with my Gamer ability-like powers it certainly sounds possible.

Maybe I should do some good while I'm at it.

I wonder if I can create a quest if I tell someone to be saved like... Tukson for example.

Worth a shot to warn the guy to see if a quest will be generated.
